Aka the Greatest Generation and they were called that for a reason. My favorite cohort of that generation is the first half of the generation also know as the interbellum generation with the later less progressive and more traditional half being know as the GI generation. That generation lived through some Of the best social enlightenments and the most significant cultural changes in American history that carry on to this day. The internellum generation tended to be more left wing and many workers of the time belonged to communist and anarchist unions and or political organizations. At the same time gangster culture started in the same generation which both political and street culture that developed in that time carries On and continues to influence and shape Modern times and modern culture

By the way, "Coke Ennyday" is a parody of the fictional detective Professor Craig Kennedy. Written by Arthur B. Reeve, the Craig Kennedy short stories were immensely popular at that time, appearing over eighty times in "Cosmopolitan" Magazine. Kennedy is a scientist detective at Columbia University similar to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Thorndyke. He uses his knowledge of chemistry and psychoanalysis to solve cases, and uses exotic (at the time) devices in his work such as lie detectors, gyroscopes, and portable seismographs

Except this film scenario is clearly intended to be English. The opening letter is from a "Crown" constable to Coke. The intertitles use English expressions. Coke's costume includes a checkered deerstalker hat, and his vehicle has an ornately attired royal trumpeter. If that is meant to be an Ivy League professor, the staging is ridiculous even for a parody. Then we have the fact many modern commentaries say this is a Sherlock Holmes parody, which makes more sense. Can you reference some article confirming your theory?

It's called Pre-Code, meaning drug use and drug references were OK, particularly for a parody. By the early sound era 1930 or so the Code was in force and all you see here was forbidden. In fact the sign on the girl inflating the floats "Fish Blower" would have been out too, because of the raunchy double-meaning. In real life Doug Fairbanks Sr., was a fitness fanatic and didn't use drugs notwithstanding some false comments posted below. See all of his swashbuckling films from the 1920's where he did all of most of his amazing stunts. A guy in great physical condition.

Is it possible to know who composed the music?
@Gl66195 ай бұрын
The music doesn’t seem dated…someone could easily use much of the score this in modern jazz songs

This would be a film from the early years of the best two decades in American history and counter culture All thanks to the youth and young adults of the era known as the GREATEST GENERATION. And they earned That name. First half and cohort of that generation is the best and most influential historically since their progressive political enlightenment and their gánster street culture development is still influential to American counterculture to this day and the second more traditional half being know as the GI generation. The greatest generation lived through some Of the best social enlightenments and the most significant cultural changes in American history that carry on to this day. The internellum generation tended to be more left wing and many workers of the time belonged to communist and anarchist unions and or political organizations. What did i just watch, wish i had some context to understand it, i suspected it must have been an early fairbanks film, then the second ending implied he was already well known. Confusing and the overt drug references throughout must have been as controversial then as now. Wow.

Back then there weren't any drug controls and Fairbanks has stated he did cocaine whilst making the film. Drugs were not controversial back then.

Drugs were still legal back then and a lot of the "bits" are making fun of drug users. A gallon tin marked COCAINE on the desk is just plain silly fun. Even back then that was an expensive habit. I also noticed that the female lead handled herself as well as did any of the men. The police were made out to be silly and ineffective, just like in today's comedy. The last 'bit' sent up movie making. Nothing has changed.
