Great video really enjoyed it 👍🏻. I’m no expert but what I do know about Monteverdi Range Rovers came through LRO Magazine. One of their writers, James Taylor is a real expert and has written many books on all things Land/Range Rover might be worth trying to get in touch with him to see if he can help. I would have thought it would have definitely have been a V8 4speed vehicle originally and I wonder if the colour is “Denim Blue” or similar which Land Rover used in the 2 door Ltd edition in the early 80’s. It is something special and deserves a very gentle restoration, so yes keep it as original as you can. The beauty of a Monteverdi Range Rover nowadays is they are so rare and nobody really remembers them but those that know, know.

Great video and really nice to see that someone has finally done one on these! We've a Light Green Metallic Montevrdi that needs a full restoration but as soon as I was told about it we were striaght off to see it. I believe the Monteverdi club have located around 55 survivors so far with many of these being unknown cars - ours was one of them. You're 100% correct in the door area with another set being sent off with it. I believe the cars were sent out as complete white 2 door Range Rovers an then rebuild at the Fissore Carriage Works in Italy. Other unique features of the car included Tornado door mirrors, fully carpeted interior (special colour), aluminium backed and carpeted tailgate cover (if you remove yours it should say Pelle Beige on it along with the last 4 of the chassis number) , there was an R marked into the chassis number to denote it being a Monteverdi and the colours were also special - not available on the standard 3 door. Also do not break or loose the glass as all the side glass was specially made by Saint Gobain. They're truly a wonderful car and one that to the untrained eye just looks like a standard 4 door. Also this was the catalyst for Range Rover to build their own. I don't recall the full reg would I believe it starts TEH - this was the design Monteverdi that Land Rover used. Really hope that info helps

Wonderful information! I will check the rear tailgate. I did find the door cards are alloy and my headlining is made of fibreglass 🧐 It incredible to think that they were making 5 door Range Rover before Land Rover cottoned on lol. I have heard similar numbers remaining of the Montiverdi’s - Very few compared with the suffix A’s for example. Will you be restoring your one?

@@ThatsClassiccars we most certainly be! Been very lucky to amass quite a few extremely rare spares for it over the years. Just now waiting for the right time to start the long process of restoring it! Certainly be a beautiful car once it’s done

Congrats on your purchase it looks that you have a fairly solid and complete car which is always a bonus when they are so rare , all left the factory as white two doors with 2 extra doors inside Montiverde then converted to four dour removing the roof and complete interior, comprehensively re spraying with metallic paint , mine is silver ,recovering the interior and hand making the door cards ,they are aluminium and the boot cover. They rebadged ,changed the door mirrors and built a pod around the binnacle oh and a cubby box on the gearbox tunnel. I am an owner who is missing a few pieces but also have a few spares and literature good luck with your rolling restoration

That’s so much for the message. Great to know there are others out there. They are seriously cool cars and the extra detail done by Montiverdi really makes them special.

Great project, I’d no idea how rare they were! Unbelievable how long it took Land Rover / BL to develop their own🤷‍♂️

Yes it’s very true, I didn’t know either until I started digging into this. After speaking to someone at the NEC they said they were of course rarer than the Suffix now

Rare vehicle these days. Think the side rubbing strip may be an aftermarket add-on. These were very popular for the RR in the mid 80s and made by a few companies for 4 and 2 door vehicles. I think there may have been 'Monteverdi design' badges , like the grill badge, on either side of the decker panel. In stead of the standard 'Range Rover' badge found on vehicles of the time. As you say, not too much out there on these vehicles. Might be worth contacting the Range Rover Register for the history. Interesting yours has the 'Alegro' style door handles the same as LR used later but early Monteverdi's may have been different.
