I was born and raised in Texarkana. The phantom is still talked about today as if it’s still happening. The most sensible rumor we would hear as kids from parents, grandparents, and so on was it was a cop angered by the “lack” of interesting crimes in the area using this to draw attention to the city which has grown significantly over the years. Really good video.

I'd wager the Phantom had either a background in law enforcement or a relationship with law enforcement in some capacity. As well as being a local, maybe a soldier who returned home with mental instability from the war. One who may have been betrayed by a cheating sweetheart upon his homecoming, hence his targeting of young couples on lover's lanes, his seeming ability to leave no evidence and his knowledge of the area and backroads. Conversely he may well have been an older religious fanatic, as lover's lanes were looked down upon by the church going folk as dens and breeding grounds of sin and iniquity.

BTW the last killing was on Arkansas side, the only one, you said Texas side in video. Also, brutal crime was not new to Texarkana region as during 1890s thru to at least WW l the Swampoodle area west of town was the red light district, full of brothels, honky tonks and much crime. In 1918 the Bowie Co. Sheriff went to Chicago to return a woman witness to a case in Swampoodle, however "mysteriously" her headless body was found in a rural pasture in southwest portion of county near Bassett, Tx, that is just one example.

I believe that the Texarkana murders and the Zodiac killing where perpetrated by the same person. The Texarkana murders took place in 1946 and the Zodiac began in 1969. The MO was almost the same in both cases, the men where stabbed or shot while the women where brutalized to a much more terrible extent. If the Texarkana murderer was in his mid 20's at the time of the killings then he would have been in his 40's during the Zodiac killings. Both men wore masks and used knives and guns to do the killings .Why the killing stopped between 1946 and started again in 1969 could be explained by the killer being incarcerated, spent time in a mental hospital or if he was in the military he could have been stationed over seas or in other states during the none killing period between the two murder sprees. Or perhaps he never stopped killing at all and his crimes where just not linked together due to the fact that back in the days when no computers or communication between law enforcement agencies to compare notes.

Remember WW2 had just ended a year prior, so of course there were soldiers that came home possibly having a sever case of. Most likely the killer felt as though the war never ended, he might have gone so insane that he believed that everyone was an enemy and but who knows. But that’s my theory.

There were plenty of cases of blue 🔵🔵 going around with the phantom

Have seen this case presented on other channels. The differing accounts by the first two victims was very strange but the cops shouldn't have assumed they knew the killer, bad mistake. Ranger Gonzalez seemed to have done nothing but appear wherever cameras were assembled, he was not a lawman, just an actor. The deputies look like a bunch of farmers dressed in business suits, this case never had a chance of being solved. Sweeney was a car thief and thieves don't usually change their MO's unless there's a good payoff and this wasn't.

Mr Hollis was real lucky that he survived especially back in 1946. The moonlight murderer must have got almost like a sexual release when he realized the police were watching and trying to capture him because clearly he knew he didn't fall for their trip

This general idea is why it must have been creepy driving one's buggy home after dark in the 19th century. You wouldn't know who was coming and in a buggy you can't roll up the windows and lock the doors.

One of the male victims was married and his girlfriend who was in the backseat new quite well that he was married which is rare to find a woman that doesn't care about wrecking homes all the way back in the 1940s. At least Paul tried to protect the woman he was with

I wouldn't be surprised if he was in law enforcement, there's too many unknowns for the perpetrator to have left little to no evidence.!

I always suspected a law enforcement was the killer

I would say it was somebody beyond suspicion someone you would never expect I think a cop or somebody of that nature could have been committing the crime

911 did not exist in 1946, but that is a MI or quibble. Interesting presentation.

What's it with Caucasian women always accusing a black man of a crime in those days. If they had listened to her another innocent black community destroyed countless lives lost.

Absolutely 💯 correct, I’m absolutely shocked that innocent BM etc were not lynched over this, or wasn’t it recorded at the time..
