The wrightworth jokes are always so funny. Just. Edgeworth aggressively saying "shut up" to deflect

I’m pretty sure he was able to bring the dog in because it’s his guide dog.

*Notes from a fan-translation team member (BigKlingy on KZbin)* "Sirhan Dogen. Japanese name: Ryouken Houinbou. Ryouken is literally "hunting dog", which references his animal assassin. Houinbou is harder to place, the wiki says it could be from one of the Japanese schools of Go (in reference to him being a chess player), though the "bou" might come from "bouzu", "priest". This was probably the name we spent the most time on besides Courtney, in the end it was only decided on very late. There were a few names I specifically voted against for being too punny: I felt the general tone of this guy needed to be kept serious. "Sirhan" comes from an African name meaning "wolf", but is also from Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin who shot John F Kennedy. "Dogen" both references dogs and the name of a Zen Buddhist teacher, which fits with his motif. This guy is another one with an odd speaking pattern, one that I don't see too often even in Japanese fiction. Dogen speaks like a Buddhist monk. Yes, there's actually a subset of the Japanese language for that. It's got its own pronoun: "sessou". It's another form of humble language that's different from Keigo. This might have been done to both parallel and contrast De Killer's speech. Both are polite and humble speech forms, but it very different ways. So while De Killer has more of a western butler motif, Dogen's is based on Asian Buddhism. Back on track though, "monk speak" is really not something you see often, and unlike Keigo it doesn't have a particular agreed-upon "stock English equivalent". It's actually not that hard to understand what he's saying most of the time (unlike De Killer, who often left me very confused until I looked up a keigo dictionary), it's conveying HOW he says it that was the challenge. In the end, we tried to get across the humble aspects as best we could, with things like "I am called", etc. Anubis. The dog was named "Kuro", which is just "black", in Japanese. For a while we considered "Cujo", I actually kind of like that better, maybe people thought it was too obvious a reference or it sounded like we were ripping off something. ["You're not twisting the truth behind those closed courtroom doors, too, are you?..."] On man, THIS part. This part was a nightmare. Flashbacks are normally annoying to do, you have to look up earlier parts of the case, or earlier cases, to make sure you keep the line consistent with how it was translated earlier. But this is a whole other level. Flashing back to a DIFFERENT GAME! I remember having to play through AAI 1 cases 3 and on in full just to try and find this line and match it. And I had no access to AAI1's Japanese script, so all I could do was literally translate this line, then look through the first game in English trying to find a line that looked as close as possible."

7:39. That random Ali's line made me google about the longest game of chess ever. Here it's what I found on wikipedia: "The longest tournament chess game (in terms of moves) ever to be played was Nikolić-Arsović, Belgrade 1989, which lasted for 269 moves and took 20 hours and 15 minutes to complete a drawn game." Dogen's surely has a lot of time to play chess like that.

That’s not the issue, they did it in one sitting, and dogen probably played one move a day, maybe for 40 moves tops, should only take a month or two, in jail that’s not much I guess

3:46 Dunno. Do you think that the guards can handle an assassin' ferocious dog that will kill with his command at the very least last thing expected?

30:00 The guard you’re talking about is actually for the visitor’s room, where the suspects meet with visitors. It’s different from this room, the holding cell, which is where the suspects are detained at all other times.
