I love the concept of putting off detail to aid in building the composition

This is extremely helpful, thank you!! Sometimes I want to sketch something pretty quick without underdrawing but keeping things even loosly accurate is a real obstacle. This way of approaching is clever, thank you for sharing your methods and secrets, it's incredibly generous.

Right now I'm struggling with trying to get the subtle perspective right on a looong boat, trying to draw some straight bold lines. It doesn't work, I never hit the right angle 🙄. Frustrated I turned away, and then the algorithm puts your video in my way, and there may be the solution, using tentative dots. 😀 I will try tomorrow to approach it your way.... Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Great subject; terrific reference photo. Definitely a big help in accuracy. In your other videos I sometimes actually find myself expecting you to make more broken lines than you end up doing...

I’m trying to do a very large drawing, 22x30, and I’m finding it so challenging! And I’ve done months of small studies for it too. Drawing large is a totally different game but you said to practice what we want to be good at so I’m going for it!
@stephentraversart6 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t recommend very large at the start, simply because we can learn faster on a smaller scale at the start, and then we can apply it to a larger scale for more encouraging results. Have fun with it. 😀

Hey from Tampa-St Pete, Fl. Stephen, thank you for the tips and techniques for laying out reference points not committing too early in the process. I love the drawing... I think I will have a go at it!

You can know a lot of tricks and hacks, but the real difference between a master like him and a novice is the number of errors committed, he has failed and learned from his mistakes thousands of times more than us.

That's very kind of you to say. And I have no problem in admitting that the occasional drawing video drawing goes into the bin rather than into editing! :)

Great 👏 btw you measure using a pen on an image that is the same size as the drawing medium, what if the image is smaller?
@stephentraversart6 ай бұрын
I measure the angles that way, not distances. Angles stay the same whatever size the drawing is. 😀

Thanks for sharing your expertise :-) i like to draw another way …love those searching lines and would not erase it even if i could. In my opinion they make the drawing vivid and ..well moving, don’t know how to express in English. I would miss them :-)
