one of the campsites that always makes me a little sad is placed right outside the Goma Asaagh shrine in the Hebra region. the shrine itself is behind some ice that you have to melt, so I can only assume that the camper(s) were trying to get in somehow. right behind the campsite you can find an ice wizzrobe; it's never made clear, but I kind of assume that whoever was camped out there either froze to death or was killed by the wizzrobe. it might just be over speculation, but I think that these sorts of details make exploring this version of Hyrule a lot of fun and really interesting

You can get a lot more dark and speculate that whatever progress the camper(s) made melting the ice in daylight, was rectified by the wizzrobe overnight while the camper(s) were sleeping. After a few days they gave up, or tried until they froze to death. Since wizzrobes always seem to be so gleeful, you might even theorize the ice wizzrobe saw this as a fun little game and had no idea how much of a dick it was being.

the one that always haunted me was the shrine quest on top of the snowy mountain (i forget where, the one where you have to hold the snowball so its shadow is cast over the shrine activation panel), there's the ruin of an old shack (interesting place to build a house, but that's another mystery altogether) with a campsite inside and a journal detailing a man who tried to find the secret of the shrine, only to slowly starve/freeze to death. it legitimately filled me with dread.

What about the mysterious campsite made inside the remains of a lone cabin sitting on a plateau WNW of the Desert Labyrinth? It's part of a Shrine Quest puzzle, but the premise of this quest is still quite dark. If you read the lone journal that was left at the site, not only will Link learn how to solve the nature puzzle, but will also learn of how the previous occupant slowly froze to death in order to figure it all out!

That intro alone is some pretty badass creepy pasta! It's nice to see someone paying attention to these details, like the left behind campsites. I did not know about the campsite under the bridge (in botw) and I too hope it's supposed to be a little omage to the original with the bottle x3 I'm really amazed by the travelers in this game, like they legit travel! You can travel with them to different places along the roads. They don't just appear in the next city. The NPCs having their own lifes sure is amazing. Even if most NPCs feel a bit cold and unmemorable in botw, their behaviour is a plus for them :D

BOTW is an exceptional game when you look it under the world design perspective. the whole world is basically the story ans absolutely everything has a meaning in there. I desagree when people tell that the game has a bad story or could've done a better job unfolding it. it is just that the story is hidden, bits by bits, here and there. if you care about it, you'll go and find clues. the story is there, but it's just THERE. this game is the true definition of an open world game, with a phenomenal lore, so big that people are still finding stuff almost 4 years after its release. I just can't wait to see where the developpers will take the series with the sequel.

There's an abandoned camosite at Satori Mountain, right next to an apple groove where you can find several farming tools. My theory is that, since the Lord of the Mountain is implied to be the reincarnation of a sage, this campsite was where said sage slept, and the apple groove was cultivated by him in order to feed himself, as it's most likely he didn't eat animals.

I think that the makeshift flags are actually the remains of tents! if you look at the tents that still exist, they are made of a triangular piece of cloth, with two corners pinned to the ground and the third corner suspended in the air. One of the tents you showed has the third corner raised by attaching it to a nearby boulder, but if you're out on the plains the best way to to that would be to tie that corner to a stick planted in the ground. My guess is that the ribbon is used to tie the tent fabric to the stick, and the structure is left behind either in a rush, or as a favor to future travelers. It would also make sense for a ribboned stick to be left at the stables for travelers who can't afford a bed inside.

In the Maze north of the Akkala Tech Lab is, when I remember correctly, a lone cold campfire with a soldiers sword and shield. When I saw that, I thought about an unlucky traveler or soldier who got himself trapped inside the maze and died there on the spot. I think it was near the ruined guardian on the west side of the maze. Maybe it stalked around the maze and was like a spider like version of the normal stalkers and he gave his life destroying it, only for the normal stalker in the entrance to remain.

I always figured the flags were markers to indicate to travelers that these places are safe places to spend the night, like how cairns in real life are used in areas of remote wilderness to act as signage about direction and safety, or the presence of a food cache. Thus why you also see them near stables: safe harbor. Even if some are located in dangerous regions, I'm pretty sure they are all situated such that you won't draw enemy aggro. Unless of course, you lured something there.

I think those sticks with a ribbon to it is actually the remains of the tent. As the tie and the ribbon at the end looks very similar to the way the tent is tied. So maybe it used to be a tent that got torn off, or if there happens to be another tent nearby it could be like the older tent they had and got replaced or repurposed to something. I mean their tent it literally a blanket tied to a stick. And plus, a the thingy for setecting whether or wind speed won't be necessary or functional in a maze with giant wall, and so Will a beacon, I mean the tent is more visible than it already.. So it's definitely interesting what it's ment to be.... Maybe it's own separate theory or mini theory later?
