This makes a lot of sense. I've always been sceptical of the supplement companies sponsoring magazines and other studies to promote the idea that we aren't getting enough protein, which obviously supports their agenda of selling products. I think the human body is incredible at adapting to new conditions, even if the circumstances (diet, rest) aren't optimal. People have been successfully building muscle for generations without being obsessive over macros. I've built more muscle during this lockdown period without paying close attention to my diet or lifting particularly heavy, than ever before in my 20 or so years of going to the gym regularly. I have however been focusing on training consistently and the time under tension principle. Keep up the good work in dispelling these myths!

I've watched this video a few times, but it's all making sense now. Thanks, Matt! I noticed I looked and felt the best when I ate less protein that I do now (~180-200 g/day), and focused more on eating good healthy starches, fruits, nuts and seeds. So I'm going to cut down my protein, this video just gave me the confidence to do so. If cutting protein down helps one feel better, they can go harder with their training, and get overall better results.

What is crazy is we have to fight for a truth to be known in midst of all the lies to convert a truth into a lie and we degress and not progress.

I know what you mean, that's why I've been practicing more "caloric fortification" which is my way of saying I'm eating a lot more ice cream these days lol

I look at gorillas who eat mostly plants and they're among the most muscular primates. There are also plenty of carnivores who are naturally muscular, so either seems like it could work. You're probably onto something here when you say the exercise lifestyle is really what makes this difference, so long as one isn't consuming tons of junk. Spend 10 hours a day climbing and running, and you'll probably look pretty fit, regardless of your grams of protein per day. As an added point, I'm certainly not saying humans are the same as other animals in terms of diet, just noting that nature seems to have more than one way to build muscle lol.

Brutal! Love it though. It works well for BW training because of the stress it can occur in the joints. Really great for pull ups!

I'm always a bit amazed this needs to be said. But it goes hand in hand with the fact that you can't out-supplement poor diet or exercise. I've known a few people who thought their pills and powders were doing the work fot them.

There is a lot of science out there that gives you a good idea of what protein intake is good It’s a lot better then doing what he says by wasting time experimenting on yourself
@RedDeltaProject5 жыл бұрын
I get a lot of questions from folks who get confused by that science. It's good to reference and use as a starting point, but ultimately it's something to figure out for yourself as all things in fitness tend to be

Everybody knows that muscle weighs more than fat... even though a pound of muscle and a pound of fat weighs exactly the same!
