I also think it was unfair that in the walking drill the dual pistols only had 3 rounds each, and the single had 6. The whole purpose of using two pistols is to increase your ammo capacity. Obviously your going to lose some accuracy ,but if somebody wants to kill you, you're not going to care about efficiency. You just want to shoot him until he dies.

Dual wielding isn't about practice. It's about predisposition. You can train everything but very few will get good results. Most people can barely use their left hand. Very few can not only use precisely their left hand, but also in cooperation with right hand. For example, I can swim breaststroke for 3km's, pretty fast, with really efficient technique. But when I try crawl .... I look like I'm drowning. I can't cooperate my arms and legs that well. Other example. Even if I'm not playing Minesweeper for many years, my non-flagged time is still in world top 100. Around 2005, I was possibly in world top 30 players. But I'm not world top 100 fastest calculating brain. But out of those who can calculate simple tasks that fast, I'm out of very few who can simultanously breefly register values on up to 200 squares. And having constant full focus on ~100 squares at any given time.

El Shuwix is right. Vick is military while Jerry is Competition shooter, there to different breeds of the same animal. personally I have always favored Jerry M. over Vick because while Vick says "no, it's not practical." Jerry had always been "let's push the limits." and that's the different between the 2, that's why Jerry can do 6 shots reload and 6 shots in 2.99 seconds. "you want to be the best... be the first one on the range and the last one to leave." dual wielding isn't a myth, it's just something no one has really practice... practice..practice... practice, that's how you get good at anything, all these skills are perishables and if you don't train it, you loose it or look shitty at it.
@KretinoSantino8 жыл бұрын
Stephen Esperson You've missed my point. Practice isn't universal solution. If you haven't got the gilf, you will not make it far no matter how much you practice. Just try to shave your beard with left hand. Dual weilding is a myth. Because barely anyone is physically capable to be as effective as with 1 handgun. No matter how much you practice, the left hand will be almost useless for most of the people.

The only game where dual-wielding makes sense would be something like the Halo sequels, where the protagonist is both highly physically strong and assisted by powered armor that has built-in recoil compensation as well as targeting reticles on his HUD that indicate the point of aim.
@dasschadenfreude73338 жыл бұрын
Well, not to get too deep into semantics, but one could just aim the onscreen reticles at the same target. In the accompanying novels, it does also detail experimental operations that he undergoes which increase his reaction time and mental processes, which theoretically could perhaps help with switching targets and whatnot, but again, it's fiction. And I agree, aiming at two targets with two weapons is pretty much impossible.

Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) Gunfighter Category specifically includes shooting 2 revolvers (Left and Right) with integrated movement, target selectivity, drawing from holsters, for scores based on time and accuracy. Those of us capable of shooting well with a pistol in each hand refer to the rest of y'all with slight condescension as two-handed shooters. These events go on all over the country virtually every weekend. Nationals typically have about 700 qualified shooters. There is a sub-category of CAS known as Wild Bunch matches where the revolvers are replaced with 45 caliber 1911s, lever action rifles must be at least 40 caliber, and only allows pump action 12 ga shotguns. The "myth" is that you can aim 2 pistols simultaneously at 2 separate moving targets (or while shooter moves) and engage them successfully with any reliability whatsoever. But a skilled 2 pistol shooter whose CNS is wired ambidextrously...or who has trained very hard for many years to overcome the lack of athletic intelligence he/she was plagued by...can increase speed without substantial loss of accuracy at typical pistol fighting distances. It is NOT a Hollywood legend, and who cares how video games apply to actual gunfights or how to shoot 2 imaginary guns in a virtual simulation for fun. In the end, the only advantages of engaging with 2 pistols is that you get twice the ammo between reloads (which now take longer), you can more quickly acquire flanking or "blind-side" targets (don't have to turn and face them nearly as often), and your belt is balanced better. These advantages are a bigger deal with SA revolvers and more primitive firearms, but there is also a time and place where it could be advantageous with mag fed autoloaders. FYI, the IDPA and USPSA shooters tend not to encourage CAS experts to join their "tactical" clubs or shoot in their comps. I know a guy who won the federal LE 3-gun comp in Artesia 3 years in a row with a revolver about a decade back. They "retired" him and made him a judge after the 3rd win. He isn't a myth. He's a LEGEND!

Downsides of akimbo: 1. Reloading takes way too long. 2. You're holding each weapon with one hand, increasing the recoil and thus decreasing your aim/accuracy. Also, the guns don't run down the center of your sight, effecting your aim even more unless you hold them both real close to your center. Pros of Akimbo: 1. Shoot more bullets. 2. Snap-target with the individual arm instead of moving your entire body. 3. You look really fucking cool.

It’s only plausible to effectively use two guns if you’re extremely good at point shooting (with both hands obviously) in a very close quarters environment. But 99% of the time it’s likely more efficient just to use two hands on one gun.

I am surprised at all the people suggesting more training time on using two guns at once would be a good idea. Better using that extra training to improve your skills on one gun, reloading, shooting either hand and in a variety of positions. Once you have rapidly emptied both magazines how the hell do you reload them? Put one down/holster reload the other and then repeat??? Ok if only a paper target shooting back at you.

The only sanctioned military/police use of the idea of using two handguns i think is pre-revolution Russia, where their 'secret service' of the time had the idea of using two double-action revolvers (Nagants i imagine) to lay down supression, a volume of fire as you got your VIP out of there. Later of course, SMGs/Machinepistols and in very recent times PDWs fullfill that role. , where bodyguards might lay down automatic fire, of course to hit the bad guys, but the supression is just as important.

Firearms shooting levels to master duel wielding two pistols in a real gunfight: Most Balanced Pistol with the most stable caliber for the shooter's hands. 1) one pistol two hands correct sight alignment and firing fundamentals. Static targets and then dynamic. 2) one pistol right hand only correct sight alignment and firing fundamentals. 3) one pistol right hand only transition from target to target. Static targets and then dynamic. 4) Then use the left hand with the same practice as the 3 other steps. 5) Two pistols two hands with double grab mag reload technic and static targets only. 6) Two pistols two hands with moving targets and double grab mag reload technic. 7)Duel wield two pistols in a simulated combat environment until mastered. 8) Now it can be used in real combat. Pros: Speed and more bullets with different angles of engagement. Where the target has to get the correct alignment to shoot. The duel wielder point and shoots his target with accurracy. Wasting fewer bullets. Put targets down very quickly. The potential to disable targets before they can shoot is high. Con: Slow reload and Duel wielder can get his arms shot more if careless. Reload time can increase dramatically if errors happen when reloading.

What about both pistols aimed at one target at a time the aim being to put two bullets in each target. The idea with twin-pistols is you point both simultaneously and squeeze off a shot from both at the same time at the same target then move to the next target. In theory, quicker than aiming and shooting twice at each target.

sight shooting is always better, and since you can't sight into two targets at the same time you're relying purely on hand eye coordination. It's a very different style and I doubt Larry trains for it. One-handed, off-handed, point shooting is required to dual-wield. I've seen a video of a russian guy who was spot on accurate dual-wielding glocks. Training to fire your weapon with either hand one handed is a useful skill set either way though.

getting accurate shots with dual wielding is impossible, because when you hold a gun with one hand and you pull the trigger, the movement of your finger and the weight pressing on the trigger causes very, very slight deviation in your aim, which is really more than enough to make the gun point somewhere else. And trust me, you wouldn't want your gun firing at something (or someone) you didn't intend to shoot.

+ZeroStriker426 Substituting "any firearm held offhand" for "dual wielding" is really more informationally complete. I learned to shoot with a Sheridan Blue Streak in .20 cal. When you work that hard for each shot you learn to take a freaking rest unless you just plain don't have time. In a hunting sitch this means; DON'T SHOOT, VERNE! Having said all that, the greatest shot of my 14 year life was an offhand snap at a dove in the top of a ponderosa pine 100 yds away. Stoned the bird, but lost it in the 120' tree. Luck, meet Karma. See, I clearly didn't give a shit if I wounded the bird so I was unworthy of the bird regardless of my luck. At least that's how it looks at 48.

Two guns did better than I expected. That being said, I wonder how he would do using the other hand?

I dont think anyone who knows even the least bit about real guns, came to this thinking that the dual wield technique was going to be efficient or effective.

I would like to see single gun single-handed right-hand and vs left-hand.

***** Would've liked to see the alternating use of two guns: Two Targets, further apart horizontally. Bring one gun up, line it up with one target, and shoot as you bring the second gun up on the second target. Combines the faster follow-up shooting of dual handguns with the precision of being able to use the sights.

Imagine shooting at the same time to the target will receive double quantity of shots at the same time

I assume it'd be quite possible to dual wield with acceptable accuracy *if* you were using laser sights on an identical set of pistols. I still wouldn't consider it to be an ideal tactic, but it'd definitely be better than nothing in a worst case scenario.

What about shooting with one hand and only switching if you run out of ammo?

In my opinion. Can't necessarily call this a myth. I think you guys should revisit this, and look for guys that train with it. In my experience. I grew up on cowboy action shooting. Last I knew there were guys out there who dual carried. Not necessarily to dual wield but for other practical purposes. In example. Coming into a hallway and covering end to end. Having the pistol as a back up. Using one in a dominant hand for main purposes and the other for back up purposes. Using one pistol to point ahead, the other to clear a room. Doc Holiday, and alot of other guys carried 2 pistols for a reason. There's also a reason why people position their holsters the way they do as well. Some guys/gals are just comfortable with these things. I would love to see something more in depth and compared to current practicality.

I think the issue is suppressive fire on multiple targets while engaging the primary targets. If you have four targets engaging you, it doesn't matter how fast or accurate you are, four on one, you loose. But you can at least try to suppress targets with the secondary pistol while engaging your chosen primary target or move to cover....

Well in some scenarios like getting attack from two different angle by multiple attackers you might need to dual wield. In a very tight situation

Considering people like tom knapp can get so in tune with their weapon they don't need direct aimpoint to do accurate shots, I think you could learn this if you tried to

The only time I've ever seen using pistols akimbo work was when playing one of those old arcade machines with two guns meant for two players, in my experience it made the games a bit easier, not a lot but enough to get further than you would on a single player single gun play through. Only downside is you're going through twice as many quarters.

Jason Armstrong Yeah, I saw a guy in Thailand playing House Of The Dead 4 while dual wielding once, and he was awesome and kickass and he makes the game looks easier

It seems like the whole idea of carrying two double stack pistols is to be able to pass an ally a pistol in a situation that calls for it that may not make sense if you're engaging on an open field. In CQB in urban environments an individual can conceal a pair of pistols and engage hostile subjects in a relatively target rich environment (apartment building, city homes, barricaded individuals.)

Good demo, but not entirely fair: 1. Demonstrates lack of training with two guns (rather than flaw). 2. Better to use matched/identical guns. Still, most of us aren't good at multi-tasking. I'd go with one gun too.
