Happy Birthday Peter, this layout is coming along very nicely in deed. I really like your homemade risers, they look great. Plus they are in much longer sections than the manufactured ones, makes a much better surface to lay track on.

Thanks for the update...i'm curious about the risers and inclines - are these styled after the W.S. inclines? It looks as if they are home made.

@@mpeterll Thats a pretty handy saving as the W.S. can add up on a large layout!
@mpeterll5 жыл бұрын
@@gregbowen617 There's another reason too... The WS inclines are only available in 2%, 3% and 4%. More often than not, we need something different. To make their product more versatile, they also need to do 0.5%, 1% 1.5% and 2.5% at the very minimum.

I should have read your above comments, DUH. how did you end up having that wonderful job over there? One question, do you solder all your track joins? Regards Chris
@Chris-BognorRegis5 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, I am based in the UK near Chichester, West Sussex and came across your site as I am extremely interested in N gauge. Currently converting the loft in our bungalow to take my layout. So when I came across your site I was truly blown away by what you build, the size especially. Also intrigued that your job appears to be building layouts for other people, wow what a job to have. I guess I am being nosey having watched all your videos to this stage but is it your business or are there a group of you, especially when you say no one has been in over the weekend to carry on with the layout. It's just something as far as I am aware that just does not happen over this side of the pond or not that I am aware of. Yes I have been to very nice mansions that have huge layouts but these have still been built by the owner with friends assistance, not like the service you offer. So yes I am curious but aside by that I love the way you plan and build your layouts and the detail is unbelievable. Wish someone over there employed you to build a massive BR layout in N gauge around the 1960 period, would love to see that. Anyway all the best and may you long continue with your videos, I cant get enough of them. Regards Chris.
@mpeterll5 жыл бұрын
So are you planning to hire me to design that "massive BR layout in N gauge around the 1960 period" for you? That's a project I would really look forward to. BTW, I do have a very small N-scale BR layout design in the works at the moment.
@Chris-BognorRegis5 жыл бұрын
Wow Peter that was a quick reply. Love to have you come and help me but I dont think I could afford you mate. As your no doubt aware things over here are very expensive and we haven't even got past Brexit yet, really scarey. I was born in 1956 and we backed onto a shunting yard for Express Dairy when they still used Gintys. The mainline station was behind that so I had the best of both worlds.So now into my early sixties the missus says the attic is mine so railway layout and 1960 BR, oh how lucky I am. Hoping to get roughly a 40' x 7,5" N gauge layout up there. The terminus is going to be based on Bognor Regis which was quite a large one for its location. May even open up a site on KZbin with some help from my son who is already a KZbinr but in wargaming.
@Chris-BognorRegis5 жыл бұрын
Meant to have asked, what are you going to put in your cellar, N gauge I hope. On another note we are off to the Watercress Line tomorrow for a steam event weather permitting. Just up the road from where we live and I have never been there before.

G'day mate. great show but I still haven't got a problem solved by watching you at this point so I'll ask a question. I am a first time N scaler and I am using all Peco xing's and some Atlas turnouts with Peco flex track and some peco turnouts all in code 55. Is there a transition joiner available for these tracks or is there a secret to join them successfully? many thanks
@mpeterll3 жыл бұрын
What PECO call code-55 rail is really not. It has that huge extra web on the bottom. I do not know of anything that will satisfactorily join it to any other brand. This railroad was built using their code-80 line. I don't do much N-scale, but when I do, I don't mix PECO with any other brand for this reason. Sorry I can't be any more help. Maybe someone else knows the answer.

Peter Happy Birthday. Oh what a Big and Beautiful layout. My question is.. How many turnouts total? Do u care to count the crossties? Lol lol. Imagine if you were hand laying each crossties and every scale length of rail?? Whew!! Not me!! Are you wiring for Dcc or will the ow no er take on that challenge? How many helpers, or extra hands do You have helping on this project? Just curious. Thanks for sharing Take really good care.
@mpeterll5 жыл бұрын
There are about 90 turnouts in total. I am working alone on the project at the moment. The benchwork was mostly built by two of his regular crew before I arrived but neither of them worked on the layout with me for the first few weeks. When it came time for wiring and turnout controls, one of the regular crew did all of the "under the layout" stuff to speed things along.

If I understand this right, you design and build for customers. Do you quantity survey the build so the client can buy all track etc? or do you make an estimate and bill the client at the end? This is a huge layout for N scale, how much would this cost, a ball park figure?
@mpeterll2 жыл бұрын
I do indeed design and build model railroads for clients, however I did no design this one (I was working with another builder on this project). If you are in the market for a custom design and/or build, please contact me through my web-site: superiormodelrailroads.com

On this particular layout, most of the benchwork had been built before I gt there. I had a helper installing the switch machines and hooking up the bottom ends of the feeder wires while I worked above the benchwork. All the other layouts you have seen me build on this channel have been solo efforts. I do have my own layout, but unfortunately I have not had chance to get the basement fixed up to reassemble it, so it's still crated up from the move. There are many videos of it elsewhere on this channel.
