Although I use Diet Pepsi cans, I can relate to your loss of a can of Mountain Dew - It’s tough to lose such a valuable asset. Hang in there my friend, it can be replaced.

That can has such promise but was snuffed out too early. After a (very) brief period of mourning and a few (choice) words, work continued with the remaining cans pulling together to make up the slack.

I drink my soda and filling the cans with sand, little ducktape secure the sand i place….
@mpeterll
@mpeterll 5 күн бұрын
I drink my soda too, but the cans are then withdrawn from service. The time taken to refill the cans and tape over the hole is better spent on something else. I also don't want sand leaking out onto my track where it can end up in the mechanisms of locomotives.

A lot of track and switches installed, but I have not seen a testrun. No need for? (makes for a "moving video" compared to the mostly stationary shots) Did I see right that the switches for the reverse loop are inside the helix so reachable if...?
@mpeterll
@mpeterll 5 күн бұрын
No, the turnouts are just outside the helix. The two parallel tracks leading to the balloon loop pass under it.

Thankyou for a fantastic video Peter. I have been using Anyrail for several years but like the look of the 3rd Planit software. It reads as though your can use it to make CAD drawings and export them as stl files for 3D Printing. If so that would be useful. Thanks again Peter from downunder.

what does it cost the customer Peter
@mpeterll
@mpeterll 11 күн бұрын
Doing all this preliminary work on the computer before I set foot in the workshop saves the customer a ton of money. Not only does it avoid do-overs that waste time and materials, but I arrive in the shop already knowing exactly what to do and how to do it - thus getting it done faster.

Thx for sharing. This was well worth it. Very interesting and well presented. You do not onky have routine in designing and building that benchwork but also in pointing out where you are referring to and highlighting relevant parts within complex drawings as if presenting your thoughts is just a relaxed snip with the fingers. Hats off and all the best!

Amazing! You don’t just have to design and build the layout in 3D but design it with sections to fit in a container and get down basement stairs from a customer’s measurements. I hope the top of the stairs has plenty of room and not just in a narrow hallway. Is there a chance that you could do a video with the yard section you displayed around 4:30 and show the turnout combinations and discuss how you use them to decrease the distance into the yard tracks? Great job, Peter.

@@mpeterll you would be surprised how much it would help making the layout frames no drilling holes for the cross braces getting the most out of a single sheet of plywood but I understand on not seeing the current need for one and there are alternatives to getting a commercial machine

I always forget the Japanese even run freight because it's largely separated from passenger lines. It's one of the reasons their trains run so reliably. This feels more like a N.American road but I did enjoy your take on it. Few hobbyists in Japan can commit this much space to a layout. Even flagship store layouts like Hobby Center Kato (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3y6gn1qe86KotU) aren't much bigger, so this is impressive. PS: you can find high quality cab ride videos of any route here on KZbin. The train otakus are legion and have documented their country so well. Great way to get a feel for their system.
