I like the $20 bill gag. It was a reworked gag from the tv show Police Squad. If anyone is unaware of the gag Frank on the TV show would visit a street shoe shiner called Johnny played by William Duell. Frank would ask him something he needed to know to solve the case. Johnny would reply "I wouldn't know anything about it" or something similar. The Frank would bribe him and he would tell him what he wanted to know. The gag is street shoe shiners would know everything because they listened and picked up things whilst on the streets. Doctors and firemen and sportsmen would come in after Frank and ask him a question. Also they had to bribe him, its so funny and I think better than the movie version. Shamw William Duell didn't reprise his role as shoe shiner guy. Shame the rest of the cast didn't reprise their roles, would loved to have seen Alan North he was great.

R.I.P. Leslie Nielsen, one of the greatest deadpan comedic actors. It's no surprise that "Naked Gun" reminded you of "Airplane" because both movies were written and directed by the same team, known in Hollywood as the "Z.A.Z" team. Zucker, Abrams and Zucker. "Naked Gun" was a spinoff of a short lived TV comedy starring Leslie Nielsen called " Police Squad", also created by Z.A.Z. The "really skinny Tony Bennett" is the late actor Ricardo Montalban who is revered by sci-fi fans for his wicked acting in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," a "sequel" in number only because you can skip the sucky previous one and not lose anything. You should put "Star Trek II" on your list of must-see movies.

Responsible for several acts of brutal terror all over the world, including the infamous destruction of a Boeing 747 in the air over the scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988... after this movie was released. 17:04 umpires have the prerogative to search a pitcher's uniform for tools/evidence of cheating via distorting the ball. The classic means of a pitcher doing this are emory boards/files/sandpaper/etc concealed in their pockets (hence searching the pitcher's pocket) and vaseline on their fingers. Obviously an entire jar of vaseline is too large to conceal in a pocket, so what pitchers would actually do is pre-smear a finger or two's worth of vaseline somewhere on their uniform where it was hard for someone else to see yet also easy for them to "innocently" touch to get the stuff back on their fingers (i.e. the brim of their hat). So, of course, to make a typical Naked Gun/Police Squad joke out of it, Nielsen actually does find the entire jar when he searches the pitcher.

A little history about Leslie Nielsen, his first role was in 1950 on Actors Studio. His first big role in movies was the standout sci-fi Forbidden Planet (highly recommend). It was ahead of it's time. He mostly did TV throughout his career, occasionally doing movies; mostly spoofs. TV shows he appeared in ranged from MASH to Fantasy Island. I recommend 1998's Wrongfully Accused (a spoof of the Harrison Ford movie The Fugitive). He also played the ship captain in the 1972 Irwin Allen all star disaster film The Poseidon Adventure. Do that one too if you want.

A classic. His hair was white, from about the age of 20. He's in one of the most famous sci-fi movies ever, The Forbidden Planet. A sci fi based on Shakespeare's Tempest. I'll never forget that movie as for my 18th birthday, we went to see the musical Return to the Forbidden Planet - Shakespeare's Forgotten Rock and Roll Classic. A musical of the movie, with the cast as the band, doing 60's and 70's classics. I'll never forget Cookie doing an eight minute guitar solo, before the interval, to Santana's She's Not There. At the start the cast were in the audience, doing a hilarious take on the inflight safety instructions. :) Police Squad was a hugely popular, farcical, cop show. "Surely not?" "No but please stop calling me Shirley." :D

Jokes about how comedy is all about airplane food and mothers-in-law, because they no longer apply. Comedy's way more diverse now, and way better for it. @stevedavis57042 жыл бұрын
I was told pistachios were dyed red because the shells were easily marred in growing and picking so the shells were dyed to hide the blemishes. Also when the pistachios were died red most were imported from the middle east (especially Iran) and the growers used the dye to verify the origin since middle eastern pistachios were supposed to be the best. In the US it’s been about 30 years since most places quit offering the red ones.
@channelwacke2 жыл бұрын
@@stevedavis5704 it's grosser than that. Naturally picked pistachios had their shells turn pink - it was a chemical reaction with the workers' sweat. When they started harvesting pistachios mechanically, people were like "why are these green instead of pink?" - so the companies started dyeing them. They continued coloring them pink for decades, until someone finally went "this isn't very natural, let's just sell them in green and call them organic". Now nobody remembers the pink ones. 🙂

If so, have you thought about limiting the top patron spot to one month at a time/require a new set of patrons each month? Because it makes it impossible for anyone else to be able to request a movie and then half the movies you react to are chosen by the same four people. I think this would be more fair to all the other people who might like a chance to choose a film and diversify the movies we watch together! Just a thought
