Hi brother hope you are well. You have done a great job making videos congrats on the channel growth, I've always said you do the best REAL reviews . This edition is beautiful I really like the opacity and the print looks so much better than my Allan. Yep that weird hybrid "edge line" is so strange but, that paper and printing is so much better than our current choices. The new NASB Allan's are actually quite beautiful they have really improved the Readers edition as a whole but still not as bold. God bless .

Hi, Airik1111! Great to hear from you again, brother! Yes, the channel has been growing lately -- many thanks to you for your support and all the kind words you've said about my reviews on your channel. I'm amazed by all the new subscribers. Thanks for the observations comparing this older edition with the newer ones -- which I've not seen in person. The paper in this old one is opaque and not very shiny, though I wish the print were a bit darker. Hope you and your family are well. Any chance you'll post new videos in the near future? If so, I'll definitely be watching.

Thank you for showing the liner cover attachment & I can see how cover was not attached properly mine was cut out? I have purchased 4 different NASB since 2019 & all had liner attached, but if a bible falls apart it happens close to liner usually in back close to maps. I like the 5 raised hubs on cover but not the missing liner it must be a flaw when putting bible together & I don't know if bible is put together in USA or China? Many products now say made in America but if you look closely same product also says made in China??? All those trade agreements US gov made after 911 with wto are now hurting our economy & quality of what we receive. My bible had same isbn & style.

The NASB is one translation I’m totally unfamiliar with. I’ve visited churches that used it but never became acquainted with it. I’m mostly a KJV and NKJV reader, but I also use the ESV from time to time. I may pick up an NASB at some time.

The NASB has been going through tough times lately: Issues with low quality products from Foundation Publications and the impending 2020 update with gender inclusive language, which has made at least a few loyal NASB users anxious. But I think Zondervan will do for the NASB what Nelson did for the NKJV: greatly improve the quality. And perhaps they'll keep the '95 in print. (Speaking of the NKJV, I saw Nelson's Classic Verse-by-Verse Center-Column Reference edition in a book store recently, and I was favorably impressed. Too bad all the editions currently in print have the words of Christ in red.)

What a coincidence... Today I received by mail a hardcover copy of the very first edition of the NASB Reference Edition by Creation House Inc., Illinois (1971). The two last passages you quoted are almost identical. (From my point of view, these are not "reviews" anymore, but lessons. Thank you.)
@RGrantJones5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The earliest NASB I have is a '73 single-column reference Bible. It has more of an archaic flavor than than the '77 edition. My guess is that your '71 contains even more expressions that hadn't yet been modernized.
@umsol5 жыл бұрын
@@RGrantJones I think the differences between the 1971 and the 1973 versions are not that big; of course, it's just a guess. If you're curious about any particular passage, just ask me and I'll send scans of the pages.

Hi R. Grant Jones where do you procure this 2007 China printed edition? Seems very hard to get on the internet as most of them are 2017 printing I think which has inferior thin paper with blue gutter and bad opacity. Cheers!

Paladin - I purchased it over a decade ago. I think you're best bet is to get a used copy from an online source, like Ebay.

As always, I love watching and listening to your reviews. Definitely the best! I have a questions if you don't mind me asking. I have an old genuine leather copy of the NASB. It says on the spine it is a Nelson 786. The publishers copyright page has been ripped out so I cannot tell what print it is. The date given on the page before the concordance is 1972 by Lockman. Is there anything I can look for that will give me a more conclusive idea of what version NASB it is. (A google search on Nelson 786 brings up nothing...)
@RGrantJones5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. I have only the '73, '77, and '95 NASBs, not the '75 or anything earlier than '73, so the following may not prove conclusive. First, you can distinguish the '95 in many ways. For instance, in Matthew 9.1, the earlier versions have "And getting into a boat." The '95 reads "Getting into a boat". Second, the '77 made a number of small changes to earlier editions. For instance, at Matthew 9.24, the '77 has "And they _began_ laughing at him". The '73 has "And they were laughing at him". Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! That is definitely great information for me to check out in my bible. Thank you always for your super kind attitude and being of assistance to us all. Definitely not a reviewer, more like a teacher! Thank you again. God bless!

I have just consulted my bible and its seems that based on your insightful references that my bible may be a '77 NASB. It has in Matthew 9:24 "And they began laughing at him". That is incredible! Thank you again for sharing your wisdom, brother.

Hello, Dr. Jones. Would you ever consider doing an ESV vs NASB video? Thank you as always for tremendous content.
@markwiygul63565 жыл бұрын
NASB and ESV both have a history of having their wording revised, along with other popular modern translations like NIV. Even RSV had been revised without a name change. So one Bible might have different wording from another, depending on publication date. On the other hand NRSV has stayed exactly the same, word for word, without a single change since it's inception in 1989 I believe it was.
@RGrantJones5 жыл бұрын
Parker - yes, I've considered that. But I think I may do a '95 vs 2020 NASB review after the 2020 is published -- then a year or two later, an ESV vs NASB review, where the NASB is either the '95 or the 2020, depending on which one survives.
@Ambrose_op5 жыл бұрын
That would be fascinating, sir. Thank you for the reply.
@RGrantJones5 жыл бұрын
Zondervan says that the 2020 NASB will be available in 2021. If that's true, I may do an ESV vs '95 NASB comparison next year.

The layout is great -- NASB in a classic Longprimer layout. I'd like to see the same layout with text in a 9 point font also, to give us a more portable Bible. Thanks for the view and comment!

No, not this one. I did review a single-column NASB in calfskin, the one some call "the Judge". It has a similar box and also comes with a felt sleeve. And I've shown the *genuine leather* NASB Large Print Ultrathin in a few reviews, but I haven't actually reviewed _it_ yet either.
