I know about this place and have been meaning to visit. Proud to be a Minnesotan, proud to be from a place that has the largest amount of Somali immigrants in the country. Will support my friends of the Somali community in every way.

1:28-1:36 so that largely explains why is there no large Somali-American communities in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago?.

it's also because of the large community in the midwest that Somalis outside of America will tend to want to move to where their community is mostly at.

If you’re not Native American this isn’t your country. They are citizens and they’re here to stay. CRY

This is so sad. The Somalis need to start companies and elevate themselves - NOT stay poor playing with art!!!

At least they are trying to learn something interesting and creative rather than hurting themselves and others

All peoples have the right to express themselves artistically. Americans make a lot of money from art.

Why? They do art, yes, but this 12-minute video showcase does not mean all Somali immigrants are artists. That's foolish thinking. Art forms much of the cultural basis of society and translates into innovation/invention, durable goods (housewares, furniture, etc.), and art for beauty's sake. “Art should be something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination, and encourages people to go further.” - Keith Haring If you don't think art influences capitalist pursuits and innovation, think again. Look at the cars from the 1950s as a model and then look at the utilitarian bolt buckets of the 1980s. But truly, art can unite people. Most people wouldn't stop to give Somali immigrants or refugees thought as whole, complete, complex human beings. Immigrant communities are often seen as just... "them" or "those people", whether immigrant/refugee status, religion, country of origin, etc. I used to live in Columbus, and we had many Somali families in the neighborhood whom I didn't understand nor did I try to understand at the time, decades ago. But their art and video pieces like this help bridge the divide between "us and them". And so as divisions are broken down, both they and we are lifted and our culture gets richer.

You really don’t know Minnesota for making that kind of comment. Somalis excel on all fronts and have transformed Minneapolis economy. This is another beautiful display of Somalis artists making their own path and space for their people.

"elevate themselves?" Where again are the dynastic rulers of ancient Egypt today? answer: Western museums😂 Nah! Aduunkaan faa'iido maleh(The pursuit of Materialism is Futile)...in the long run elevation always leads to societal moral degeneracy and doom.
