The British NHS may have its flaws, just like every governmental services, but compared to the healthcare system of many others, the UK should be very proud of its health service.
@CarpentersloverJ6 жыл бұрын
BookFreakyTube Yeah,compare it to the health service of my country Philippines . Rich afford the best of care while unfortunates get a poor treatment in public health care. If you are poor , get admitted in a private sector that charges , and you failed to pay them, you will end up bringing your relatives at home instead ,even if it is against your will. Ive witnessed it first hand and I am a nurse.

Proud of it historically, of course. Proud of it currently being almost consistently outperformed by other developed countries? Not so much.

As a US citizen resident in England for 15 years, I have found the physical healthcare in the UK to be generally very good. Something, however, must be done about the appalling lack of resources given to mental health care services, especially those for children and young people. I am beginning to think that there is something in the British psyche that doesn't want to be enlightened about mental/neurological conditions.

Before anyone tries to tell you that there is no patient choice in the U.K. remember that the UK also has private doctors and hospitals. They have more choice than in the US ... you can choose free health care in the UK and 99% do so for general GP service though 10% have some private insurance for elective surgery in private hospitals, sometimes thru their employer benefits. Private hospitals have fish tanks and carpets, but otherwise the care is similar.
@Anon543877 жыл бұрын
So you have to pay taxes to support the NHS, and then pay for a private doctor on top of it? You are paying TWICE for the same thing. This isn't unlike some things in the USA. People who send their kids to private schools still have to pay school taxes which means they are paying for their kids to go to school and for the kids of someone else to go to school. Private schools do a better job of teaching reading, writing, arithmetic, science, higher math, history and government/civics and do so for less per student per year. If public schools and the taxes supporting them also abolished parents could afford to send their kids to private school and come out ahead financially.

Anon54387 I have truly never seen an American advocate for the abolishing of public schooling, if anyone is reading this please know that we Americans are really curious of your NHS. I myself a republican am advocating for a system like this. I will GLADLY set aside my tax dollars to pay for such a system. I can only hope that a future president will start this.

You don't really want teachers pushing their views on you. They might be super right or left wing and subtle persuade you it's better or worse than it actually is. Just watch videos on the Internet to fill in the gaps.

knucklesamidge It's nearly impossible to have your own views, since someone will likely have influenced you in that way when you were younger. Obviously, I can't change that now, but working on avoiding bias is something I'm keeping in mind when learning this information. Thank you x3

Closest thing Britain has to religion? Except the NHS is actually tangible and I can see it's effects. The NHS has done more for me than Jesus ever did! He died for my sins but he'd never bother to fix my ailments.
@Anon543877 жыл бұрын
I think the point in saying it is the closest thing that Britain has to religion is that people so often ignore all evidence about the inefficiency and other problems. They believe something without, even despite, evidence.

Some folk, more contentious than me, have said that the problems facing the NHS and accelerating social care costs, are of their own making. Rather than improving the health of the population, they have kept people alive with chronic conditions for astonishing amounts of time. Folk are living an average of 17.3 years with chronic conditions, from which they could not have survived barely a generation ago. Not me! I hate facts. My LIVING WILL declares that I will end my life when I can't do 25 press-ups. I anticipate that I have 13.7 years left. Life is so over-rated.
