Our Client Elia wants to boost biodiversity around its future energy island in the North Sea. Following input from various experts, seven concrete measures have been worked out. For example, ledges will be installed on the outer storm walls on which the kittiwake - a vulnerable bird species - can rest and breed. Below the waterline, several measures will be combined to create a diverse and rich artificial reef.
Together with its partner, Jan De Nul is building this island and further optimizing the experts' NID measures. Developing methods to make a positive contribution to biodiversity is our mission. The nature inclusive design of the energy island represents a huge leap forward.
