Hey everyone, I've wanted to make this video for quite a while already, to share my honest thoughts on this situation. I hope you enjoy watching my new in-depth video, and whether you may agree or disagree, realize that's fine and that we can simply differ in our opinions. Regardless, let me know your thoughts because I'd love to discuss the topic some more with you all.

This topic always irritates me and I am for the most part on the other side of it then you seem to be. The most irritating element is not actually the idea that the developers of games have agendas that they put into their games or that sometimes it can hamper the game. To me, that is just the product of bad writing. Better writers like Naughty Dog, Hideo Kojima, etc. are able to put their agendas in games and make for consistent story flow. The part that is the most irritating is the hysteria of the anti-SJW crowd. It is the taking of something ultimately trivial and blowing it up into videos about how the future is DOOMED, games are ruined forever, politics is destroying everything, and soon men won’t be able to be men because you media product has too much focus on women, minorities, gays, etc. Even in this video what you are getting concerned about is so trivial that it seemed downright weird to me that it causes you concern. Devs teasing character relationships, kissing scenes in teaser trailers, and things like this. Whenever I see it, my first thought is: “Wow, these dudes are so insecure!” Even when I hear the argument that we don’t want politics or pandering in our games, I always think: “since when?” Corporations pander to us all the time. The typical protagonist’s race, gender, sexual orientation, and role as being hyper-competent badasses are all a pander to the gamer. I’ve even seen most of the people who complain talk about how men are 90% of the audience so stop pander to females and I hear an implied: “and go back to pandering to me.” Politics have been in games for the longest too. Kojima’s examination of the surveillance state in MGS2 and FF7’s environmentalist critique for instance. But the thing is that these are well written agendas. I have zero problem with pandering or agendas in games because that is actually the way it has always been. The games that do it successfully are those that write it well into their stories. And as far as I can see towards the future is that talented writers and shit writers are gonna both continue to be things so the future is gonna be like the past. Skill rises and is praised while trash sinks to the bottom. Finally, I do want to talk about you statement on the developer’s reaction to the kissing in the lastest TLOU2 teaser. I thought that guy’s response what appropriate because he is looking at what one kiss in a teaser elicited online. The fact that this video as well as hundreds of others comes from that trivial item is itself proof of the hostility he as a dev feels in putting pro-gay imagery in the game. When doing so prompts this much outrage it is hard to believe: “Oh, this is just coming from a bunch of socially accepting well-thought out gamers.” as opposed to “Wow, one gay kiss and I’m getting all this outrage, surely this has to do with some anti-gay horseshit.” Honestly, I feel the same way. The talk of how pointless this kiss was would not have even existed had it been a dude. Everyone would have just been talking about the lip physics. Anyway, I do like these discussion videos, so keep it up.

I agree with you here 💯, Naughty Dog and some other devs are beginning to lose the focus of their work. Forced narratives and agendas are all over the place today. I’m all for diversity, representation and whatever, we are human BEINGS, I agree that we should be able CHOOSE what we can. But when one feels the need to shoehorn these issues unnaturally into any piece of media, sure it pleases many and tends to be popular, but that feeling of a coerced input lingers, and if everyone was as honest you’ve just done right here, the world would be a much more welcoming place. You’ve spoken the TRUTH here, not minding the possible backlash that could ensue as a result. I massively respect this honest effort, more power to ya.

Well, Naughty Dog had been trying to act like it's NOT true right up until the leaks. Anyone else notice how the ($230) Ellie Edition is a particularly nasty form of gaslighting?: Included is a figure of Ellie playing the guitar -- it's evocative of both Ellie AND Joel, who taught her to play; and it seems to hint that they'll both be treated as the characters we know them to be. Instead, we're supposed to play as Abby who murders Joel and *_hunts down_* Ellie and beats her almost to death; and somehow (how???) we're supposed to LIKE this Abby? I kinda expected Joel would bdie in this game, he's old AF; but I assumed he'd get a death appropriate to his character, maybe saving Ellie or even saving her pregnant girlfriend Dina. But not murdered by the character we're then supposed to play as.

Back when this came out I got into several comment fights with others trying to say there was no agenda, blah blah blah. While there certainly is some schadenfreude about being right, I'm mostly sad. I was so excited that there was going to be a sequel, then the red flags started appearing, and now here we are today. Ill preface this by saying, I have no plans on buying TLOU 2, I think the story sounds like garbage and im in no way defending Naughty Dog, but I hate this take. It largely ignores the fact that there are groups of people, more than you probably realize, who have been talking about and have hated this since they revealed Ellie is a lesbian. Things like that create an echo-chamber of toxicity when generally, those people who complain and whine about those asinine details are the biggest snowflakes and ones who care the most about that stuff. LBGTQ community isnt online championing for Mario to be officially recognized as gay. They really dont give nearly a shit as much as the people complaining; theyre just glad they can marry in most places nowadays... They dont have the time to care about some stupid bullshit like that because theyre still working on getting their total freedom in their real lives. Theres really people out there who really do think TLOU 2 is bad just because of the LGBTQ stuff, and its like the first thing people mention when theyre talking about it... Naughty Dog has been my favorite developer for the past 17 years, but with the current events unfolding within the company I have to completely agree with everything you said. I personally became concerned with the direction of Naughty Dog after finding out Neil Druckmann was an Anita Sarkeesian fan, then the news broke he purposefully changed the child of Drake and Elena from a son to a daughter, so if the series continued it would be with a female protagonist. Now the company is forcing protagonist Chloe and what should be antagonist Nadine into what feels like a forced relationship. Naughty Dog has absolutely become heavily involved in pushing SJW propaganda, and they insult anyone who doesn't like it with verbal abuse. As a long time fan Naughty Dog, I am disappointed at their hostility to those who disagree with the direction they are going. If this is how Naughty Dog will be with their customers, then I feel like I cannot support them anymore.

MrConredsX, You are absolutely correct pointing out the hostile narrative from SJW's isn't limited to just the game industry, but is in the movie industry as well. It really is concerning to see how aggressive these people can be when calling out intolerance. In reality, they are the most intolerant people around when they curse out their customers who have legitimate concerns. The recent announcement from the developers at DICE saying they don't want fans to purchase their product because they don't agree with an English crippled woman being on the front cover of Battlefield V is a prime example of this. A majority of fans aren't complaining about the woman because they're sexist, they are calling out how it is a historically inaccurate representation of WWII which takes away the immersion from the game. It is for this reason they didn't have an English crippled woman cast in Saving Private Ryan, because the writers knew it would be historically inaccurate. If Battlefield V was based in the future, there wouldn't be any problem with a woman soldier with a prosthetic hand being on the front lines. Maybe gamers should just listen to these developers and not purchase their products, perhaps then they will wake up and not criticize the majority of their customers.

I'm aware someone has already mentioned this, but here I go. I am gay, and I feel as if LGBT people are not being represented, they're being used. The whole purpose of including gay/trans/etc. characters is not to include them, it's for the devs say: 'Oooh, look at us!' And instead of doing a Nate/Elena relationship with Ellie, they're putting it forward and down our throats. The whole purpose of equality is, well equality. We don't want to be put on a pedestal to be 'represented', we want to be treated as everyone else. I'll go as far as to say, I like when gay characters are included, and there are a few games that have done this right. But here's the thing, just because they were gay, their relationship didn't get more screen time. That's how they should do this. If the game does include a focused romantic subplot, or heck, if it's the focus of the game, go ahead. But including this form of 'representation' is not the way to go forward with games. And I'm pretty mad.

LGBTQ wants to be represented and be viewed as normal but these game developers just wave their LGBTQ characters over their heads and scream look at me look at what I'm doing! Having an LGBTQ character shouldn't be your main focal point it. By all means have different characters but dont dedicate a whole E3 trailer of them being what ever sexuality they are either. And also if you want to have LGBTQ characters, dont change one you already have. That seems almost too easy and less work for you and dont pretend that these characters are really LGBTQ if you didnt have the balls to put it in your game and just support fanart of it. Create your own character and write them out yourself so we can grow to love them.

If you look closely you notice that Elle is wearing the same bracelet that her lover wore at the dance, implying something terrible has occured. Something which pushes Elle into a vicious, vengeful state which is influencing the animations and attack choices during her confrontation with the group. That's good storytelling which robin ignores because he can't see beyond the kiss- a thing he.wouldn't give a fan about it it were between a man and a woman. And while i.don't think he's a hateful person, I do.see that his focus on who is kissing is just another variation of the old statement " I don't care what people do in bed just as long as I don't have to see it. Dont go kissing in public, I have to see it. " a statement which did not.and does not exist until same sex folks are introduced. I'm a bisexual men and a writer, my problem with a gay character is when being gay is their only depth. For example, klaus in the umbrella academy is a character with personality, he has troubles with drugs and fobias that has developed for traumas, and he is gay, but that is not the only thing that he is. It's a part of you, not the full you, are you keeping up with me? My problem with tlou2 is not only that their character is a woman (horizon zero dawn is one of my favorite games) or that it's gay (i really loved left behind) my problem is when something are not naturally born and you have to push it by force to include it, samus, ellen ripley, elloy, lara croft, etc... Are great characters. They do not have the need to be bad ass, they are. In dallas buyers club, the character that jared leto played was completely natural, the same as the trans character in dark. You feel it as a person living a story, not an actor reading lines. I as a bi men, feel actually offended if a person really thinks that a gay it's all that a gay are, a person with different sexual attraction are still a person, nothing more, nothing less.
