The Navy's Long Overdue Smart & Deadly Patrol Boat Has Arrived.
The Navy has been slow to adapt from a Cold War era 'blue water' Navy, focused on fighting set-piece prelude to WWIII engagements on the open ocean, to one where interdiction, territorial security, and special operations are also of a high priority. With this in mind, the Mark VI Patrol Boat is welcome arrival.
It has been reported that the Navy has received its first of ten contracted Mark VI Patrol Boats, with the service eyeing a fleet of 48 of the fast and deadly vessels. The delivery of the Mark VI would mark the first real patrol boat the Navy has bought since the 1980s, even though the Global War On Terror has demanded a craft just like it.

One bad thing about the rollers, they would be tripping and falling on them when they do other activities on back of the boat. plus it would make cargo stored there unstable. i am sure the Navy already considered rollers.

A BM2 and I (OS2) were trying to line up a winch on a old wooden UB for our towed side scan sonor. While trying to line up the holes a young E2 said he didn't understand why we didn't just weld it. The BM2 said that was a great idea, why don't you go up to supply and see if they have any mahogany welding rods. And just like that the E2 skipped up to supply all proud that he was smarter than the 2 E5s. I turned to Boats and said that was the funniest come back ever. We laughed for a bit then I called supply and told them to tell the E2 that they only had oak. The E2 had to make 2 more trips before he got wise

I'd be interested to know why the navy chose a single Hull deep vee design instead of a multi-hull, either a catamaran or triple ( so-called cathedral)hull. Both of these types have good characteristics for littoral operations. They are more stable weapons platforms contributing to higher combat efficiency. They are less wearing on their crew, and equipment due to their stability , again helping combat efficiency. They are much more fuel efficient, thus boosting rcombat radius and loitering endurance on patrol, and surveillance and escort duties, less frequent refuelling makes lower demands on support infrastructure and their shallower draft makes much more of the littoral seaspace accessible to them, making them better for close to shore, even right up to shore, operations. Greater deck space allows a safer less cluttered work space for the crew, and fewer compromises on weapons configurations. Why, with all these advantages to bring to the team, were they not chosen instead of the traditional single Hull design? Were they even considered? Were any objective competitive trials carried out? Was sclerotic bureaucracy a factor? Probably won't happen, but it would be interesting to get a view from the USN on these questions.

not if the main gun if flopping around way up at the bow when this planning hull pitches wildly in mild chop. Not even stabilized Mk 38 mounts can overcome that much pitching motion on top of the heaving motion from swells. You can pack as many guns as you like, but if they cannot train on a target in typical conditions what the hell good are they. It seems with was really intended to be a riverine patrol boat for brown water only and not insertion of SEAL team over a long transit despite all the shock absorbing seats they dazzle us with.

Damn..!!! This kind of Assault Boat is what the Philippines need. But due to lack of Government support and funding our Phil. Navy cant have this kind of boats. But the U.S Navy did definitely a good job and wise decision in having this kind of Fast Attack/ Patrol /Assault Boat which is the standard Variant: - Mark VI "Fast attack/ Assault Boat" is definitely a good boat for Patrol/ Interceptor/ Swarm attacks and Landing Assault mission.. but its better and more deadlier if they will produce other variants of Mark VI in which is optional if they will remove the Passenger section or just Increase its Length (35 m up to 39 m) in order to install more sophisticated weapons for a more powerful and effective variants of Mark VI such as: - Mark VI "Missile Boats" with (2) x single barrel Anti- Ship missile, (4) x Spike missiles in RCWS, (4) x Short range Anti-Air missiles in RCWS, (1) x 40mm in RCWS, (4) x 50 caliber and EWS/Radar Jamming device to be deployed together with Mark VI standard variant as a Fire Support Boats to protect other Patrol "assault" Boats in Landing Assault or "Swarm attack" intercepting mission from Larger enemy Armed Boats and Enemy Air strikes. - Mark VI "ASW" (Mine sweeper/ Mine laying/ Anti-Sub) Variant Boat for Quick Response Coastal Defense Patrol Boat equip with (1) x 40mm in RCWS, (4) x 50 caliber, (1) x Light ASW Mortar System, (2) x Single tube torpedo, (4) x Naval mines and (1) Towed Array Sonar to Track and engage enemy Submarines. with all this the U.S. Navy MARK VI Fast Attack Assault Group will be more deadlier and unstoppable.

Wow, you live in fantasy land. This boat is not capable of these missions. Your fantasies are completely inappropriate. Other larger ships (destroyers and minesweepers) a necessary for weight carrying or sensor purposes. Most minelaying is done either with aircraft (F-18 or P-8A Poseiden) or in rare circumstances by submarine. The small size of this boat means it could carry at best a couple missiles or maybe three mines (which are presently not designed for ship laying) and then it has expended it's load and becomes a useless vessel. It would be a one trick pony. Not a credible weapon system.
@SelwynClydeAlojipan
@SelwynClydeAlojipan 6 жыл бұрын
You are mixing the missions that this Mark VI boat was designed for with the missions of other more-lethal weapons platforms. This is a multi-purpose utility craft for carrying SEALs and Marine Recon or Coast Guard specialists to where they need to be. It's best weapons are its sensors and data network connections so other aircraft or ships can see what it sees and then target it with heavier or smarter weapons. This boat doesn't need to carry its own heavy weapons as long as it can point to something that the killer craft in the USN task force can shoot at.
@groad6551
@groad6551 6 жыл бұрын
So you want a frigate or a destroyer with all that weapons you mentioned. It's a small boat to hold all those systems. You just don't put weapons and expect it to function without a fire control system, electrical load distribution system, magazines, mag sprinkler systems, radar and radar antenna, sonar, etc to make that weapon function.
@jimnielsen4076
@jimnielsen4076 6 жыл бұрын
It's not a frigate or a destroyer. It might have a very small missile capability in the future at the loss of (I assume) of a 25mm chain gun. As of now it has 2 remote operated 25mm chain guns and 6 .50 cal m2 machine guns. I think that's a lot of firepower for this size of boat with the ability to substitute grenade launchers....

The reason it is airlift capable is so that a small number of boats can be airlifted to anyplace in the globe that they're needed rather than being stuck in a home port in Florida and having to travel on their own to Dubai or Singapore for a few weeks at sea. It's useless having more size or mass when they can't be used where they are most needed.

Designers never owned a trailerable boat?. Add a winch and rollers to launch and recover the small boat. Keep the engine mounted in the small boat while launching and recovering. Both the rollers and the winch can be removable to use ramp for other purposes.

So many world war 2 equipment on this state of the art boat but zero missiles or even an ATGM type of weapon.

You weren't listening, they are arming them with missiles. Also the only thing WW2 about it is 6 M2 .50 cals on that configuration. An old design, but they still mist pirates with ease. The main weapons here are 2 stabilized 25mm rotary cannons which massively outguns all of their realistic opposition as a patrol boat.

Doom Guy the 25mm Bushmaster chain guns they are armed with are not rotary cannons. Totally different beasts.

So I'm sorry if I got your meaning wrong, but you think that the U.S. military personnel have the Authority to start a major International Incident? If that was the case I guess we can just go head and Destroy the world right now as that would be the out come. Politicians are the force in the free world that tells us when to pull the trigger!!!! Rafael Melendez Fashion Police under Michelle Obama ordered the switch.The crew also had to pass PC & SJW's Exams to be sure the enemy's feelings weren't hurt or offended while some crazed deplorable from Maine or Texas blew their head off. I sincerely hope those directives have been rescinded never to see the light of day again. Just one more example of the cultural Marxist,alt left total disconnect from the reality our armed forces live & die in.Defending our homes, families & our liberty from enemies foreign & domestic is a bloody,nasty & to often thankless task.The leftist academic Democrats appear to have forgotten this.They should pray every night that this nation still breeds enough smart,knowledgeable kind & quiet men who are also mean ,bloodythisty,viscous killers when called to defend our one of a kind country.Don't tread on us.
