Boeing's EA-18G Growler is a specialized, carrier-capable electronic warfare aircraft based on the F/A-18 Super Hornet - and when it comes to wreaking havoc on enemy electronics, it has few peers on the world's stage.
And now, with its new Next Generation Jammer pods coming online, it's getting even better.

@thomasvelazquez9789 Unfortunately China used AI to counter a Growler in December 2023 and after hours of stalemate US disengaged. And sadly the EW Squadron commander was relieved of his duties. FYI: it wasn't his fault but the platforms and China's successful engagement with the Growler. The Navy better have something a lot better up its billion dollar sleeves if they plan on winning EW fights.

The Air Force had its own jammer, the EF-111A Raven or as it was often called, the "Spark-Vark" . The EF-111 entered service in 1983 and served until its retirement in 1998. After the EF-111A was retired in 1998, the U.S. Air Force began relying on the Navy’s EA-6B Prowler and later the EA-18G Growler for electronic attack missions. I guess joint operations is alive and well.

I had the honor, privilege and good fortune to be involved in building all the EF-111A airplanes while working at Grumman out on Long Island. Moving between Station 3 and First Flight, it was a genuine thrill. And when it ended up saving untold lives and casualties in our armed forces' first strike sortees, and subsequent engagements, I could not have been more proud. I pleases me to no end to see that electronic warfare aircraft remain as a most important, and often unsung hero of our military's dominant place in global security. Based on your reporting, I'd say considerably improvements have been ongoing since my days of building awesome machines!

I can confidently say that no one else has technology like this. Sure China has really upped its defense budget, but they’ve only done so relatively recently. The US has decades of experience and a massive head start in the R&D sector of the MIC. China is still pretty much reduced to trying to catch up to American technological supremacy. Russia is not even worth mentioning, they’re a third rate outdated military force. NATO allies such as GB, Germany or France could theoretically have such systems, but they don’t seem to bother to invest enough money into their military to make such developments happen.

Like you was talking about the other nato countries, I’m sure they could swing it but most of the time but I understand not all they get the technology from the USA . Only if that were the truth. In fact China successfully equalized the Growler in December 2023. Go read about it. The USNavys EW squadron commander lost his job because someone had to be blamed. Of course he wasn't to blame, China simply used Ai to neutralize the Growler at its own game.

@@ryszardfalkowski7917thanks. The Nanchang did seem to defeat the Growler, the pods talked about here may help regain some advantage though the use of AI to deconflict the jamming is worrisome. @cubed0724
@cubed0724 5 ай бұрын
First off, there is no official reason given for the dismissal. You are purely speculating. Second of all, China simply claims to have "locked on" to a growler and being able to send an aircraft to intercept it. Rather than seriously attempting to actively enage the Chinese destroyer and foolishly handing the Chinese intelligence on US capabilities, the growler was most likely there passively collecting intelligence of its own. So the Chinese are basically bragging about intercepting a non stealthy tactical aircraft within close proximity of one of its most advanced destroyers. Even if it actually happened, it's not the least bit impressive or concerning.

TBH it's not really even a theory, from some public comments the F-35s radar is capable of literally burning out the radars of hostile jets by overloading them, as these pods are based upon the F-35s systems it only makes sense that it can do the same, if not better.

I managed to get the pilots to take the proper evasive maneuver to defeat the AA-2, but in passing he fired a burst from his 23mm and we got hits in the vertical and port horizontal stabilizers. If one of our linguist Spooks had not spoofed him and ordered him to return to base the second pass would have been the last. I know that one of the use cases for the new Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) fighter will be for Electroinic Warfare, but I kind of wonder how many of those you'd have to have to equal the full capability of a F-18 Growler. Seems like there'd be too much equipment to pack away on a smaller plane.

😊The real determining factor of how effective any electronic warfare asset is operationally is the EWO. In the end, EW comes down to the intelligence, training and experience of one against that of the other EWO. I had a tour in electronic reconnaissance in the EC-121 and EP-3B/E with VQ-1 (including the evacuation of Saigon - Operation Frequent Wind) and a tour as an electronic aggressor flying the ERA-3B and I hold Military Warfare Subspecialty Code 0046S (electronic warfare). Things have not really changed...no one in the military really knows what EWOs do.

The amount of energy needed to run those EW's must be very high. I've read somewhere the pilot of the Prowler, Growler's predecessor, could hear the jamming, like a frying sound

Hey I'm sure you're already doing a video on it but just in case you aren't yet, The Warzone published an article going over how the NGAD program is basically starting anew entirely to use more effective 2030s technologies that have started to enter development in just the past few years as opposed to the more expensive set of late 2010s/2020s tech used in the flight demonstrator that was originally intended for the fighter, and that they are focusing significantly more on having NGAD itself used as a UCAV element with fewer piloted airframes to save costs and reduce loss of life, as well as making it more broadly capable to be useful in uncontested airspace, which was a downside of the F-22 which didn't really have a purpose for the majority of it's life.

Thank you, this was very useful to know 🏆❤️ I don't like the delay, but I love that the designers are seriously delving into how to nake it both deadly, useful & cost-effective, in every scenario 💪❤️

@@elektrotehnik94 Yes this is hopefully a much better outcome than what we had feared with a century fighter program reboot or an outright cancellation. To find out also that new technologies have advanced so far in the past 4 years that they are adding and swapping out new technologies entirely for this reassessment is wild. Let's say for instance radar and IR spoofing is good enough that laser weapons are no longer needed, or a large internal volume is unnecessary due to developments in the low-drag pylon program. My guess is they found an alternative technology to the Adaptive Cycle Engine.
