if you increase your chopping frequency you can use a smaller transformer for the same power or the same transformer for more power. there are upper limits depending on the core material. for example aircraft use 400hz and the motors and transformer are 20% of the size for the same power rating.

That's true. I chose to use 480 hz so I could do the switching with a normal microprocessor and not have to deal with off times and other issues.
