The NHL's most recent expansions (also Seattle and Vegas) granted a format that was more favorable to the expanding team (compared to how the league used to do their expansions). And both of those franchises saw successes really quickly, with Vegas even winning the Cup in their fourth year. I know the basic structure would need to be very different (partly due to roster size, partly due to CBA issues), but I just wonder if the NBA might want to shift things in a similar way to give the new franchises a quicker start?

Hot take: The NBA will ad *4* , I repeat *FOUR* new teams befor the new TV deal (2034) ends. If I had to bet: They will announce 2 new teams for 2027/28 next summer, then 2 more for 2032/33 in the Summer of 2030. How will that be possible? Easy... international players! Just look at the last view drafts (and future mock drafts). More and more international talents are picked in the top10, and even more important, the number of european busts is way lower then it used to be just 10-15 years ago. So I think Seattle and Las Vegas will be added in 2027. Then a 2nd Canadian team (instant rivalry with Toronto) in Vancouver and a team in a smaller city like Columbus, Kansas City, or Louisville in 2032. Or... the boring choice would be another Cali team (San Diego, San Jose)

I would make the Rules like this, for a 2 team expansion Existing teams get to 1) protect 8 standard contracts or 7 standard contracts, and all 2-way contracts. 2) can only lose 1 player 3) offer a trade,to make sure you lose a player you want to, For Expansion teams 1) salary cap is 70% of the league cap. 2) If an expansion team picks a 2 way player, their contract is automatically converted, and their salary increases to 25% above league minimum. 3) Both teams are placed in the lottery 7 and 8 (based a draw). They can lock in with that pick, or decide to be part of the lottery, where they can only win the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th pick. 4) They get the first two picks post lottery, #17 and #18 (alternate with the above) 5) They get the first two picks of the 2nd round, #35 and #36 (alternate with the above) 6) They also get the last two picks of the 2nd round #67 and #68 (alternate with the above) So they get an extra 1st and 2nd rounder in the expansion year. 68 picks in total that year.

Montreal is easily the biggest market in either canada or the us that doesn't have a franchise.
@KM-ov1qpАй бұрын
Adam Silver has mentioned Mexico City as a possible expansion team destination. We already have a successful NBA G league team, a stadium, etc. Basketball is loved here and one can only imagine the TV revenue due to an entire country getting behind their one team.

NOLA and Memphis moving to the East and Vegas / Seattle added to the West

If you add Vegas and Seattle West, you only need to move 1 team East (Memphis seems most likely)

I'm torn about this. On the one hand, there's certainly more talented players than there used to be, warranting more teams and more roster spots. On the other hand the regular season probably needs to get shorter not longer, as it's already bloated and doesn't draw interest like the NFL (for example).
@brandongutierrez6346Ай бұрын
Questions on the expansion draft. So teams who want to dump salary can just put those players on their un-protected list correct? Suns can put Beal up for grabs. Also, I feel like this would hurt team morale when you found out your team was willing to put you up for grabs and if you don't get selected you just go back to the team that essentially didn't want you.
@melburnmt7320Ай бұрын
Seattle would be amazing! I would still of course be die hard for the now OKC Thunder but I'd have a second side for sure.

Lol I could imagine Lebron being the owner of a team and an active player at the same time.

Lebron is going to buy a huge stake of the Vegas expansion team and is going to either sign bronny james to his Vegas team or trade bronny from the lakers to his Vegas team as LeGM.

The one time 2k actually taught me something valuable about basketball lol. This is how it works in the games to a T. I was even confused at one point when i was younger, why players were missing or disappearing from the pool of choices when I realized later on I could only get 1 from each team.
@andrewmiller67809 күн бұрын
That is pretty simple the SuperSonics would play at the ClimatePledgeArena, and Vegas would play at T-Mobile Arena, and share the Arenas with the NHL teams like the Lakers and Kings, or Pistons and Redwings, Avalanche and Nuggets etc. they would just have to work out the schedule with sharing the Arenas but that is pretty simple plenty of teams do the same thing.
@jonathonjones2611Ай бұрын
They need to remove any restrictions on expansion teams getting top picks in the actual draft too. There's no reason that the two expansion teams that are likely to be organically the two worst in the league should be denied top picks in favour of deliberate tankers. Especially in the era where the league is trying to discourage tanking. At the very least, the two expansion teams should get the same odds in the lottery as the worst record in the teams in their first draft (the one prior to their first season). Then none of the ridiculous 90s rules about them not being eligible for the number 1 pick in the draft following their first season either.
