Fell off on that right hand hairpin, rookie error wrong gear! Stunning route, the coast road to Shieldaig is stunning too as is most of NW Scotland. Oh the joys of midges and setting up the tent in the rain.👍😀

Aye. The Sabre-Toothed Midge! I’ve lived on the NC500 for most of my life, and I’m sure my ears are twice the size they should be because of the years of midge-bites they’ve endured. Little buggers! 😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

That is absolutely beautiful countryside!, looks quite hairy in places. Many years ago I rode my xs1100 from Ireland to Newcastle on Tyne to hear my favourite guitarist Julian Bream, whom you may know because he lived in Wiltshire most of his life. But I came home after the concerts and I always regretted not continuing up to Scotland when I was so close, however hopefully I may get back again. I really enjoyed the tour through your camera Charlie. Many thanks. Le gra. Gérard. X.

Just discovered your channel and loving the NC500 vlogs. My wife and I did it last year on our converted Harley trike and loved it so much we’ve done 3 week long touring holidays in Scotland this year around Cairngorms, west coast, and Skye and everywhere takes your breath away with its beauty. Planning on doing lands end to John o Groats next year following English, Welsh and Scottish coastal roads all the way up then back down English east coast via lindisfarne, holy island, Bamburgh castle, Stonehenge, Avebury, Glastonbury on way back. Planning 2 weeks to do it

Hi Charlie, while watching this video I was thinking you hadn't mentioned midges. Then you did. As someone who grew up in Scotland and did lots of camping during the summer months I found there were 2 ways to keep the little bitey buggers at bay. One method was smoking cigars, not good for your health, and the other method was to spray on Avon Skin So Soft. No idea what ingredient is in this Avon product that the midges don't like , but , you will find that most camp sites in Scotland stock this product in their little shops. Spray it on any exposed skin, on your clothes and inside your tent. This product really does work. By the way , I am NOT an Avon rep. Honest.

Thanks for this one Charlie. I really shouldn't watch videos from up there - they just make me homesick! You've made a brilliant job with this one though, and you're treating that area with tremendous respect. That whole area was my 'office' for 16 years when I was driving coach tours up there - try and imagine if you can, a full-size coach crossing The Bealach na Ba! It's good to see that the NC 500's calming down a tad now - it needed to! I'm watching this series with particular interest Charlie, and I'm as envious as hell! Well done and keep 'em coming. 😎

One of my favourite parts of Scotland and, as others have said, very well done for not adding commentary or music on the section from Applecross northwards. Loved the burbling Roger background. Safe riding. Oh .. and Smidge does work against the midge ... but where you were, most skin treatment defences are now a marinade for the little blighters.

We did the same route around 10 years ago including Ullapool, Cape wrath then onto Durness…..just great to watch your journey - and a lot less camper vans and caravans than we experienced 👍

I had the pleasure of doing the NC500 (clockwise) last year. A truly wonderful ride along some fantastic roads with scenery out of this world. Even the much maligned east coast road was a great road for bikes with long sweeping corners & great coastal views. Already in the planning stages for doing it in reverse next year. I really hope you enjoyed the trip & the midge didn't put you off revisiting Scotland again. I can heartily recommend Perthshire as a biking destination. Toured around there in May, fantastic roads, great scenery with the Cairngorms within easy riding distance. Glencoe is not too far away either. Maybe you could try the "Crieff Cloverleaf " next time. Whatever your next trip is, i hope it goes great & you enjoy the experience. looking forward to watching the next video. Ride Safe!!

I did it earlier in the year on a lovely sunny day on the wing. The coast road away from Applecross all the way up is stunning, white beaches, cliffs and endless vista's. Ill be back next year.

Enjoyed that.... I've ridden the nc500 twice, once in each direction, on both occasions the cloud was down on Bealach Na Ba so it was good to see the view.... maybe it'll be 3rd time lucky if I can get back there again 🤞.... Proper Job Charlie 🏍🤘 from a Swindon born rider 😉

Awesome Charlie, love riding the bike around the roads up there, I’m planning a trip up there again next year with my son , lovely to see the stags out around applecross, I’ve got a small vid clip of a stag walking passed me at the applecross inn early in the morning while putting gear in the panniers, stunning place , thank you Charlie 👍

You had much better weather than when I did it in 1980 on a HondaCD175 on my first motorbike tour Your bike also had an extra 7 horse power :) It's a fantastic part of the world (when you can see where you are going). I must go back and give it another go.

I did this last year on my Himalayan in April/May, it was good watching your progress as I knew what was in front of you. Thankfully in April/May I didn't suffer with the dreaded Midges. Been following you right from the start, and really enjoy your video's.

Great video. Stay in Ullapool where I am right now, cos there is far more roads not on the 500 that are doubly stunning, around here. But isn’t the openness great - and the lack of walls/hedges just makes it biking heaven. It’s magical north of Ullapool in particular. Enjoy, ride safe in this chill and occasional rain😂
