Hello, this kinda blew up. I didn't expect so many of you to find this video but nevertheless welcome! A lot of you are asking where they're located now so here's where you can find them. Hilltop Street corner Zandueta Street. The stores are on Hilltop Street and right beside the Hilltop Market. They're on the street as of now, it's not hard to miss. Once there, look for the leather store by just asking the vendors cause I'm not sure if they shuffle around. They're the only one selling all leather stuff. Happy hunting!

As an American Filipino I feel bad for the native Filipinos. Buying a brand-new leather jacket in America isn't a big deal almost everyone can afford it. But in the Philippines I suppose its only for the few. But Isn't Philippines a tropical country ? why would you need a leather jacket? and why is buying used clothing a stab at the dignity of the nation? What I do notice image and impression is really important to native Filipinos and what I mean by that is, even though your poor but if you look or pretend your rich its OK. I feel it's a type of escapism from the real reality of the people and country. I feel if the Filipino people face the reality of the country and face it instead of pretending everything is ok than maybe it's a step forward in actual progress. Because here in America we don't appreciate people that pretend or mislead what they really are because we feel they are being dishonest. It's a cultural differences I suppose.

Nah, it's just generic aestetic video essay with a lot of b-rolls that doesn't explain further why thrift shop like ukay-ukay may impede national dignity like she straight giving a surface-level opinion that doesn't answer her question on why it is the case. It's just fillers and shitty intro with a Y2K aesthetic with less substance, it's half-ass.

As someone who lives in Baguio city and thrives off of the thrifting culture, thank you so much for this video and the tribute to manong "leatherman". I'm almost certain he's also the person I got some of my leather pieces from (as i deduced from where his shop used to be, and the fact that I haven't seen him in any of the places most shops relocated to). If it weren't for this video, I wouldn't have ever known the extent of what the fire took from him. My heart broke, but thank you again so much for this video

Its almost 2AM and this video got recommended to me. I have ALOT to say😭 1. As another 14 year old filipino, im going trough exactly what you’re saying. Me and my friend recently did a photoshoot for fun and now i feel myself currently spiraling in the fashion rabbithole. I didn’t really cared about what i wore until that point, but now im out here looking for outfit inspirations on Pinterest. 2. This video is genuinely so good. THIS IS THE FILIPINO CONTENT I NEED. The cinematography, the script writing, how the mr leatherman (Rest in peace) was handler. Its genuinely so insane how i stumbled upon content like this thats perfect for me randomly at 2AM. This one day is the type of content i aspire to make and this kinda pushed me to start making content like this since well….. ive never seen anyone do it in the Philippines before 3. I dont care if its TECHNICALLY illegal, its a big part of filipino culture. And if i aint gettin arrested on the spot, then it aint a crime.

@@MARCBEA1 Whether it's a leather jacket or generally just working with layers in clothes, some people are into fashion and are willing to do it despite the humidity and heat. I'm not one of those people, but I can respect those who do. As for the being "even though your poor but if you look or pretend your rich its OK", it's an over generalization to attribute it to all "native Filipinos". And if anything, that's more an Upper Middle Class and Elite aspect of social climbing and looking good on the global stage by buying big brands even if it means overspending. The only people I know that goes to ukay-ukay a lot are more into it for the fun it.

@@MARCBEA1 I think making a sweeping generalization about 117 million+ people because of a KZbin video about a law that was passed in 1966, 59 years ago under the regime of the dictator Marcos Sr., is unreasonable, don't you think? Or did you just want to tell us that you pity us and that the US is the greatest country in the world? If you think you're being nice, then please understand that there's nothing constructive about criticism from someone who has no idea about the situation they're talking about. If you watched the video, you'd see how popular ukay-ukay actually is. Ukay-ukay is ubiquitous in the country because we ACTUALLY buy them and only a small, small minority still thinks it's undignified to buy second-hand clothes. But you know what, good for you guys that, to be in a country as big as yours, Americans are all united culturally in disliking dishonest people. Good that you American people, unlike us poor pitiful Filipinos, always face the reality of YOUR country and don't pretend everything is okay! I guess in that respect you guys must only vote for politicians who are the most honest and trustworthy people. Gosh I really do wish I was an American just like you! Please tell Trump to annex The Philippines as well!!!!!!

He did enter the thrifting business industry too, and I just knew how much this whole thrifting things ignite so much passion in him, not just how it boost his confidence or that it helped him disover and express himself more, but it also supports his daily needs as someone who's really independent from parents' support, it also paved some way for him to create connection, friendship with his "og's" suppliers. I love how the ukay industry is already part of our daily culture, on the side note, i hope ukay industry passed its legalization, now that our fashion industry faces overcomsumption crisis and how it contributes a lot to our global waste products.

hello!! as a filipino american who doesn’t know much tagalog anymore, i’ve always had a hard time finding filipino youtubers who include english in their videos- so finding your channel and seeing shots of home with voiceover i could understand was really amazing. i loved the cinematography and the color grading, everything about this video was really cool. i can’t wait to see more vids from your channel :DD

Omg this hit me in the feels on so many levels! I spent my college years in Baguio and thrifting definitely helped me with developing my sense of style, identity/ individuality, creativity and so much more! It also helped with my home sickness as I am actually from the Manila area. I had a rush of memories of my ukay days... I'm so grateful to have discovered this video!!!

HOLY CRAP! I honestly never thought that I'd be THIS interested in a video about thrifting but, here I am... crying with you and with everyone about Dr Leather Kuya Man. Genuinely, thank you so much for sharing your story of how you got into thrifting culture here in the Philippines. I've always found it really cool and I've always wanted to try but never really knew where to begin (though I will DEFINITELY take your recommendations now)! BTW, you did an incredible job with the cinematography, editing (coloring), and story telling in the video! I'm super excited to check out your other videos :D

Beautifully done, dear! I am hoping to be in your country in one month or so for a visit, and look into retiring there. Second hand stores and flea markets are a blast to check out. I have been 3 times to Ukraine, and I have fond memories of buying from some of the less than official shops and tucked away places. Found a couple of cool tools I brought back with me, and also some old coins. Fun stuff. Loved, and felt those tears. These are real people you interact with on such an intimate level. That's real life.

Aloha, This was recommended to me and I was going to pass it up, but GLAD I didn't! Wow! great content and story start to finish with so much genuine and honest emotions. I hope and wish there will be a PART 2 to this story where you do meet the wife and show her where you've taken your leathers (maybe some other's commenting about the looks/quality jacket) I bet she will feel as emotional and surprised how her and her husbands life's work has touched another part of the world with you. Would love to see if she invites you to her home and shows you rest of the inventory and you get to purchase some exclusive leather and in return, maybe, we can all help her whenever we go there. I was really into leather jackets in the late 80's-90's and never got rid of them thankfully. Nowadays everything is expensive and fake synthetic leather that smells horrible or has some weird partial coverings that has been dyed which fades away quickly or when it gets a little wet. Thank you & Mahalo for sharing your story.

Love the content, I also wear whats available with little to no concern as long as it doesnt have holes on some delicate areas, however I already knew my love for dressing up and fashion but still holding up because once you started it, it kinda addictive 😅 I a collector hoarder type that could easily get addicted to collecting stuff, I forgot to tell that, theres always that magical feel when you go to thrift shops, you dont know what to expect yet somehow the thrill pays off if youve seen stuff that you really love, and the realization that there were stuff that people trying to get rid off that would be the next treasure for others is kinda fun, for me its like treasure hunting in real life on the modern times 😊

The intro was a great hook, i was immediately drawn by the commentary, and the cinematography! God, the cinematography. I love the feel, and the way you incorporate light in shots. Total eye candy. Hi! I recently came across your documentary feature film, and I just want to express my heartfelt gratitude for creating it. It deeply moved me to tears, especially the moment when the lady told that Mr. Leatherman had passed away. The storytelling, cinematography, and sound design were absolutely good. As an online ukay seller myself, I felt so seen and appreciated through your work. You beautifully emphasized that ukay is more than just a means of self-expression-it’s a dignified and meaningful business. Many people don’t realize that it’s this business that financed my studies and deepened my appreciation for fashion. Keep creating videos like this.
