Daddy issues is a psychological term to describe girls and women who felt a vacuum of some sorts through their father. It's not sexual per say, though there are documented cases of such being as so. Incest. However more often that not it's some form of absence or disconnection with a father. And yes, even death. And if that vacuum is still felt when she is older and has a boyfriend or husband, daddy issues may manifest themselves into sexual difficulties for the woman and her partner. A real man does not want to be your daddy. He wants to be your partner or your husband. If you treat him any differently, you're sabotaging yourself and your potential children. The lyrics to the song play up to the girls issues. As the narrator describes himself as wanting to be her daddy. It's a form of manipulation on the part of the man. A play on her weakness. Yet in the same breath, the girl/woman allows this to proceed, because of prior issues with her father. Filling an emotional void. Usually the woman grows up and overcomes these things. And that daddy figure ends up screwing himself. A smart man knows better and won't play a daddy role unless it's with his own children. Here is the definition of what daddy issues is: Daddy issues is an informal phrase for the psychological challenges resulting from an absent or abnormal relationship with one's father, often manifesting in a distrust of, or sexual desire for, men who act as father figures.

for all those who didn't get it, usually, parental issues are caused by the parent leaving, not paying enough/pays excessive attention, being detached or aggressive, etc. due to these reasons, a child may grow up thinking that they were the ones at fault, which made their parents behave this way as if something was wrong with them. What happens in these cases is that these children often go out of their way to help/ be there for others either in order to either do what their parents were unable to do or fill voids caused by them. so the line "it's crazy what you do for a friend" means that a person with parental/daddy issues may do a lot for friends and others cause they have never had any relations with family, so they try hard to form relations with outsiders for peace or closure.

I don't have any parental issues but, reading some of your stories genuinely had me sobbing for half an hour. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Some adults should have never been parents. When I was younger my father was EXTREMELY abusive to my mother, physical and mentally but he was sweet to me and my brother and loved us. But one day when I was around 5 years old and he malested me. I remember everything. That day changed everything, he wasn't ever present and didn't try to fight for us. 2 years ago he killed himself and I know this sounds bad but I'm a little relieved. I can finally feel safe away from him.

I feel guilty whenever I cry about you because i know that you are trying hard not to lose your patience. Dear Stranger, Even if your feelings are not reciprocated by your dad, know it in your heart that you are strong. You have come this far, do not give up on yourself now just because someone else did. You owe it to yourself to be kind and gentle with your scars and shortcomings. In time everything will turn out just fine. You will see and maybe even smile back to your past self who held on with so much strength. So hold on. Sending you virtual love and prayers. Take care of yourself, okay? ❣

my dad thinks providing financially is enough and that’s all he needs to do as a father. there’s no love it’s just all anger and i hate it when he tries to touch me (not in a bad way) but like any touch because of everything he put me through, when i show emotion he doesn’t try to make me feel better it just always ends off on bad terms then pretend like nothing happened and it’s all ok. i can’t remember the last time we told each other we love each other and we live in the same house but i do love my dad but it just hurts that we can’t have a good relationship and hope one day to get out of here.

I don't really understand the meaning of the song. Can you explain please?

@@artmmmm8279 he’s talking to a girl about how he understands and accepts that she has a bad relationship with her dad and how that makes her feel uneasy trusting guys that she dates and he can relate to that and he wants her to know she’ll be safe with him and he’ll love her unlike her dad, because girls with daddy issues have trouble with dating because they fear they’ll be left or not enough, the same way their dad made them feel. And the last bridge in the song he talks about how he feels pertaining to his dad, and how even if his dad is gone and he tried to let him go and acts like he doesn’t care, deep down he wish he could tell his dad what he’s done and wants his dad to be proud of him. Further trying to make the listener who can relate feel understood and safe and know that it’s ok to feel that way bc so does he but that we’re enough and worthy of love and we’re strong and deserving of being proud of

My take on this: Jesse cares about this girl and lets her let out all of her emotions around him because he knows how important it is to her. Personally, he wishes he could do the same and let out all of his emotion but he hasn't even come to accept that his dad has died yet. He is emotionless and takes her problems in as if he were her dad in hopes that he can gain that feeling again.

I can't describe the sadness I feel when I listen to this song. It reminds me of the mother of my children. Im a daddy to 2 girls. She abandoned my daughter's almost two years ago and nobody's really heard from her since. She got into drugs. I dont demonize her. I love her from a distance. She knows we all love her and the door is always open when shes ready. Her poor soul never deserved the torment she endured during her lifetime. She never knew her biological father, and the man that stepped up to raise her for her entire life that she called dad tragically passed away in a house fire. This is just one part of the countless unfortunate things that have happened over the course of her life. But daddy issues resonates. And as I sit here and listen to this song, my heart aches for her. I pray that she finds the peace and love that she deserves. As the intro melody plays, all I can picture in my mind is looking into her empty eyes and seeing the sorrow and pain that aches pours out of them. I pray she finds her way. "And if you were my little girl, I'd do whatever I could do. I'd runaway and hide with you. I know that you got daddy issues." ..we love you Katy.

Honestly, growing up I thought fathers are just financial providers and the one who would give me a ride to school. I didn't know they could be best friends too. Until I heard from my classmates how their dads would play with them. And saw it in movies too. I was like "Woah...dads do really do that?". I know full well that he loves us. I just... don't feel it.

After my father walked out on us, every time I cried, not because I missed him but I thought it was unfair, my mom used to tell me "he doesn't deserve your tears. Even if he's not here, I am. You dont need him". And it is true, I never needed him for anything but it just hurts sometimes you know? The only father figure Ive had all these years is my grandpa. Im so blessed to have him

My dad showed me this band when they came out with sweater weather. He was the absolute coolest best most amazing dad i could ask for. He passed away in 2014 when i was 28 and even as a grown man it hurt not having him around. I do the same for my 2 boys they are the world to me and im sorry to anyone whose dads were messed up to them or just not there. Everyone needs a father figure in their life

The comment section of this song really feels like a home to me, after getting to know that I'm not alone here in this cruel world. To those with mommy/daddy issues, never settle, nor cry for someone who isn't reciprocating with that. Us people with parental issue, we also deserve love and affection, but not the fake ones. The moisture of our eyes is valuable, don't shed them for people who doesn't treat you like you deserve to be. Love, Someone who's also struggling with daddy issue

I'm crying while I read the comments. I also have daddy issues, me and my dad have a bad relationship and his words cut deeper than a knife. Freakin hurts when u see that he doesn't care or try to act like he cares at all.

Literally he was never there for me and is just using me to get back with my mom and it hurts because he reminds me of it everytime I talk to him. And then he expects that I treat him with respect when he shattered me when I was so young I hate him so much
