LYRICS [Verse 1] You’ve been my muse for a long time You get me through every dark night I'm always gone, out on the go I'm on the run and you're home alone I'm too consumed with my own life [Pre-Chorus] Are we too young for this? Feels like I can't move [Chorus] Sharing my heart It's tearing me apart But I know I'd miss you, baby, if I left right now Doing what I can, tryna be a man And every time I kiss you, baby I can hear the sound of breaking down [Verse 2] I've been confused as of late (yeah) Watching my youth slip away (yeah) You're like the sun, you make me young But you drain me out if I get too much I might need you on my break [Pre-Chorus] Are we too young for this? Feels like I can't move [Chorus] Sharing my heart It's tearing me apart But I know I'd miss you, baby, if I left right now Doing what I can, tryna be a man And every time I kiss you, baby I can hear the sound of breaking down [Bridge] I don't want to play this part But I do, I feel young I don't want to make this hard But now I will 'cause I'm still [Chorus] Sharing my heart It's tearing me apart But I know I'd miss you, baby, if I left right now Doing what I can, tryna be a man (be your man) And every time I kiss you, baby I can hear the sound of breaking down [Outro] Sharing my head, mhm Sharing my head, yeah Sharing my head Sharing my head (Breaking down) Sharing my heart It's tearing me and suddenly I'm (Breaking down) It's tearing my mind It's tearing my life

The entire song sounds like a dependent toxic relationship. “Sharing my heart” is a line that really persists in showing that they’re not only supporting themself, but also a whole other person. Juxtaposing that, lines like “you’ve been my muse for a long time” show that they can’t leave their partner either, they’re too dependent on each other to leave. “I’m too consumed with my own life,” depicts that there is too much on their plate to continue sharing their heart; it’s ‘tearing them apart.’ But, they won’t and don't stop. And A VERY VERY large depiction of an overly-dependent relationship are the two (2) lines: “You’re like the sun, you wake me up but you drain me out if I get too much.” AND “I might need you or I’ll break.” The first line shows that they’re starting to recognize that if they get too close to the sun (their partner), everything is over for them. It's essentially the acknowledgment of the dependency, but nobody is willing to break it, still. But, to the person, as long as they stay at a safe enough distance, still with that intense dependency, they can “safely” continue breaking each other. Which, there is no such thing as safety when it comes to extremely dependent relationships. The second line adds to the previous line. They NEED their partner or they’re going to break- which is too much dependency for a normal, healthy, and kind relationship. “Are we too young for this?” is the recognition and the confusion regarding this extremely toxic relationship. It also hints that there is no right age and that no one is old enough to endure toxic relationships. There is no such thing as 'young' or 'old enough' because not one soul deserves to go through shit.

You've been my muse for a long time You get me through every dark night I'm always gone, out on the go I'm on the run and you're home alone I'm too consumed with my own life Are we too young for this? Feels like I can't move Sharing my heart It's tearing me apart But I know I'd miss you, baby, if I left right now Doing what I can, tryna be a man And every time I kiss you, baby I can hear the sound of breaking down I've been confused as of late (yeah) Watching my youth slip away (yeah) You're like the sun, you wake me up But you drain me out if I get too much I might need you or I'll break Are we too young for this? Feels like I can't move Sharing my heart It's tearing me apart But I know I'd miss you, baby, if I left right now Doing what I can, tryna be a man And every time I kiss you, baby I can hear the sound of breaking down Breaking down, breaking down, breaking down Breaking down, breaking down, breaking down I don't want to play this part But I do, all for you I don't want to make this hard But I will 'cause I'm still Sharing my heart It's tearing me apart But I know I'd miss you, baby, if I left right now (Yeah, I know I would, I know I would) Doing what I can, tryna be a man (be your man) And every time I kiss you, baby I can hear the sound of breaking down Sharing my bed, uh Sharing my bread, yeah Sharing my bed Sharing my head (I'm breaking down) Sharing my heart Sharing my, sharing and I'm breaking down Sharing, I'm done Sharing my life

When you're happy, you pay attention to the music. But when you're sad, you pay attention to the lyrics. This song is a mix of both, which is why this song is absolutely amazing. This song just never gets old!

This song will forever and always be my favorite song from The Neighborhood, because it really gives me the feels of nostagia on the inside, like I can feel it in my freaking core, and it makes me cry on the inside. This song genuinely makes me feel sadness in me. I mean, the beats, melody, voice, lyrics, everything about this song is outstanding.
