Part of it is that people on the internet follow you because they want to hear all about you. While random people in real life haven't opted in to hearing you brag and ramble, and might only be talking to you because remaining dead silent just feels too awkward.
@DimT670

@@nicolescats2 No one said it needed to be a ramble as well. He was pretty succinct, and about half this video's runtime is his explaining the situation and saying how he felt (and shorts are capped at 60 seconds), so... ramble? Edit: Also, people who force me into small talk just because THEY'RE uncomfortable with silence DESERVE to hear what I actually have to say about what they chose to replace blessed silence with.

Imo that's not the difference- the difference is that we didn't bring up the book to him. You can tell someone randomly about this and then you're not stealing their thunder and it doesn't come off as a brag really. But if someone comes up to tell you about a thing and you act like you already know more about it than them- now you look like you're one of those ppl that always has to have the biggest, best story and can't let anyone else have any glory or recognition. We've all been around those ppl- no one likes them.

I work with a bunch of specific-niche-level celebrities and they all have stories about meeting people that they are fans of which are also fans of them and how awesome that mutual admiration can be. Also how awkward it can be if both people get really star struck. I feel like Hank and Andy were probably in the awkward camp, both trying to act very nonchalant about being big fans of each other until one of them cracks and then they both realized.

My favourite example of this has to do with my favourite metal band Blind Guardian, it is well known that they are huge nerds. So they decided that they wanted to get a book author to help with the story of their big orchestral project. And so the singer sends an email to his favourite German author who thought that it had to be a prank. Turns out that author grew up listening to Blind Guardian and is a huge fan of the band. They did eventually work with each other and now their orchestral album has a tie in book, the album is the sequel to the book basically. It uses the strength of both writers one who tells stories with written words and one who tells stories with music.

@alexdoorn234

@@ryanisverycool It really is and it it a story I directly took from an interview with the band. Blind Guardian is well known for employing fans, their second drummer started drumming because of Blind Guardian and their new producer was a fan of Blind Guardian. That producer met the singer at a different project Ayreon that uses a lot of different guest musicians and singers. The live back up vocalist for Ayreon was also featured on the new Blind Guardian album as part of a choir.

I am thinking about "Don't look up" here: No the moon didn't explode you are making it up to make me look bad because you don't like my pick of supreme court justice and the midterms are approaching. And somehow that's more believable than people getting together to save the earth - that's the more fictional part of the story rather than the moon exploding. (no seriously that's really the movie if you haven't seen it. Just asteroid approaching earth instead of moon exploding) Thanks for the rec.

You are special! Oh my god, I love your videos, they give off a vibe I get nowhere else, I am a very quit individual but also very headstrong and proud and it is extremely rare for me to let myself be teached by anyone, I tend to think that 'If I don't do it myself, it won't be done right' and yes I see how that is an ignorant and also assumptions kind if attitude, it's embedded in how I grew up and it's still the best way that life and feeling safe works for me, to only rely on my self to create understanding so, I'm putting this out here just to have you know that I am very picky and sensitive and have an obsessively fixed and inflexible construct of standards that are dysfunctional enough in their together-structure that nearly no other human being 'passes' my subjective 'feeling okay with someone leaving a mark and having an impact on my inner world and thought process and horizon and perception and experiencing and view of the world. It's rare. You're rare. I like your aura, you're wholesome to me. You make me accept to expand my horizon in a way that doesn't make me feel..instable or insecure or useless or angry with myself or "infiltrated". For the logic of context, I have been abused in a highly mental and emotional kind of way, so I am extremely wary and closed off. I am grateful a lot that I have found within your content something that works for me, and additionally, I tend to feel apathic and anhedonic and the pure energy that you express, which in my opinion couldn't be more authentic, being so intrigued and fascinated and excited and involved in the things you talk about, this raw spirit of a scholar, a scientist, you see just a being that thrives passionately on learning, understanding, discovering and sharing their knowledge, it has me inspired on a level very few physically measurable things are able to. It means huge amounts to me, and I want to state this crystal clear, not only because of what you told us here -even though it sure IS impressive!- but in a much more basic scale, you are special, because if who you are and what you do, in my subjective perspective, you're a star shining brighter than a lot of others, I think you're extraordinary big time.

Andy Weir is my all time favorite author. Project Hail Mary was such a good book. Favorite book I've read in the last year.
