The Nerevar can't beat The Dragonborn

Going over two of Elder Scroll's most famous protagonists the Last Dovhakiin or Dragon born of Skyrim and the Nerevar or Nerevarine from Morrowind and explaining why the Nerevar doesn't have the chops to take on the Dragonborn. I also go over various villains in particular Alduin, Miraak, Vivec and Dagoth Ur.

Only realised after I had mostly finished the video that I referred to the Nerevar, Dovhakiin and Gormlaith as exclusively male. Obviously the first two can really be anything but worth noting that Gormlaith Golden-hilt is actually a rocking powerful lady and not a "tough dude" as I put it. I’m not sure if you knew at the time, but Magnus is Akatosh. The sun is his eye (where he went through to aetherius)… afaik at least. Auriel, Tosh roka, Akatosh… same guy different area. Magnus must be some human version then Editing: Noticed you mentioned akatosh is causality. How’s that so when every priest in oblivion acknowledges him as the time god and strongest of the aedra? You can literally see them shaking the whole world in the game itself when they're calling TLD and then we see how their combined shouts didn't really have an effect on him/her despite having absorbed just 1 dragon soul. That's one of the few times in the game that we actually see a glimpse of the power that lore Dragonborn truly has.

The Last Dragonborn in lore is ridiculous. The strongest mortal in the series hands down. But adding to the clusterfuck TES lore is when it comes to feats in game. So the Ideal masters, who are bootleg deadric princes and are much weaker than the actual thing are stated to be platonic ideals. If the bootleg gods are Platonic ideals it'd make them outerversal, Alduin would wreck them if he showed up there to eat the soulcairn. Also in Daggerfall Mannimarco ascended to godhood using the soul of Wulfhart and Zurin Articus (who are also Talos but i won't get into that here). One thing you forgot to mention is that one of the walking ways to godhood is what the fandom calls 'soul stacking' something that mannimarco and also the numidium does to achieve godhood. which is basically fuse souls into one. Imagine doing that but with dragon souls which are ridiculously powerful when compared to a normal soul.

The Keening in Skyrim is a fake, Umbra and the Ebony-blade just require a very strong will, and the Ogmah Infinium was a reward for services rendered. Like... The Grey Cowl of noctournal was something you earned, so it didn't replace your identity in Oblivion. I think the dragon-born would win in a fight, but I don't think he's quite as "Special" as some people believe.

Kagrenac's tools may be tonal tools and may(be) negate the thu'um but the nerevarine by his lonesome wouldn't be able to do shit. We're taking about the thu'um, the language of Gods and Dragons, the very thing that broke up solstheim and enslaved a whole island while it's wielder was trapped on another plane. to further on what Valerwolf said, it's important to remember that the language you speak to do "shouts" is simply the language of dragons themselves, with the very words spoken bending and manipulating reality in a localized space. This is similar to the harmonic tuning and music methods being used by the dwemer to bend time and space, that they needed artifacts like keening to do, but the dovakhin and dragons can simply do it by speaking their primal language. Quite impressive stuff when you think about it.

Love your video it's very well put together. My only problems are fairly minor, and don't really impact the discussion on any meaningful level. I will still list one nitpick I have though since it is what bothers me the most. You do not need to use Auri-el's bow against Harkon in Dawnguard. You can give it to him, and still kill him rather easily. It only impacts the fight by letting you stop his healing. Basically the Dragonborn doesn't actually need the bow to kill Harkon it's just a powerful bonus to their arsenal. Now that that's out of the way I would like to thank you for mentioning that Hermaus Mora NEEDED help with Miraak. So many people claim that he didn't, and just wanted a replacement, but if that were the case he wouldn't have butted in, and finished Miraak off only after he was already fatality wounded. With all that said if you actually read this thank you.

You are correct, not sure why I said you "need" the bow against Harkon the important point (that I was trying to get at) is that using the bow against Harkon in that fight is a part of the lore. Like it's an intended element within the story not just a game play thing. So he is just that strong. Appreciate the correction!

@@WebCamParrot Something that just came to mind about the fight with Alduin is that Alduin is invincible unless dragonrend is used on him first. So as long as I'm not mis remembering that would mean that the Dragonborn doesn't scale to Alduin's true power, but rather just a weakened state. Granted this is a weakened state still strong enough to 1v3 the 3 greatest heroes in all of Skyrim's history. Completely overwhelming them rather quickly killing 1, critically wounding the 2nd, and forcing the 3rd to hit the emergency OH SHIT button. To address Miraak's claim of superiority over Alduin I don't actually believe he scales to Alduin's true power either. I have a few possible explanations that could very easily explain the apparent contradiction based on what is known for sure. Possibility 1, he's just full of it, and is either deliberately lying, or just arrogant. (This fits rather well considering Miraak is obviously very arrogant.) Possibility 2, he likely knows dragonrend, and bases his claim on also being able to defeat a weakened Alduin. (This is the one I personally believe to be most likely considering all information we currently know about Miraak.) Possibility 3, is a mix of 1, and 2 were he doesn't know dragonrend, but mistakenly believes that Alduin's weakened power is his actual power. (I personally believe this to be the 2nd most likely possibility.) Possibility 4, both Miraak, and the LD are weaker than Alduin in their regular states, but are stronger after using the dragon aspect shout. This is based on my understanding of dragon aspect, and the nature of a dragon soul in a moral body. The Dragonborn isn't actually free to just use their full power at any given moment since it is limited by their body wile this is not the case for the dragons. (It is possible that under normal circumstances using said full power may result in something similar to what happened to the the guy in the College of Winterhold's basement.) Dragon aspect meanwhile seems to be a dragonborn exclusive shout to safely temporarily remove the actual limitation, and access their own true full power as if they were a dragon. If you read this thank you, and I would like to know your thoughts on my ramblings if you have the time.

Nah Dragonrend just introduces the concept of mortality to Dragons forcing them to land out of shock. It doesn't actually weaken them or make them mortal you still need to be a Dragonborn or something to kill them. In any case Dragonrend is just an ability produced by the wielders own power, so it's pretty weird to then say this makes Alduin stronger, it's just the Last Dovahkiins will over reality surpassing Alduin's. If his Thuum wasn't strong enough it wouldn't work at all the same way that all arguments between Dragons work. Also the three Forbidden words of power are still considered vastly superior to Dragonrend. So no the Dovahkiin is just much stronger than Alduin period. And no the Dragonaspect thing lorewise is trash lol. Alduin is stronger than all of the dragons combined already, a tiny Dragonaspect amp is nothing and having the soul of a Dragon partially is not what makes the Last Dovahkiin powerful. He's literally the most powerful Dragonborn of all time already.

My main issue is the Clavacus Vile statement, even if you meet him at max level he says the same thing. I'm not following the deadric prince scaling either tbh, Miraak was Mora's prisoner and if he scaled above Mora he wouldn't be trapped to begin with, Even then all Mora did when we reached his realm was guiding us to Miraak otherwise the only time he "used" us was when he needed to steal knowledge from that village on that island. It's completely portrayed as Hermaous Mora>Miraak narratively

Also, Mora had no incentive to finish of Miraak himself. The entire point of setting up the fight between us and miraak was to determine who was the better asset, saying "why didn't he kill miraak if he was stronger" is dumb. He would've killed us the same way he killed Miraak if we lost. It's not a matter of if he was looking for a replacement but rather that the entire conflict was set up to measure if we were worthy enough to replace Miraak.

One potential problem I see with the argument that the dragonborn was the only one capable of defeating Alduin, is the problem of favorable matchups. --If I wield your one weakness, and kill you with it, that doesn't necessarily mean I'm stronger than other people... I just have a unique tool that's really effective against you. I still think you're right in general, but it's just something I always have in mind when I'm looking at matchups, and the dragonborn is 'designed' to kill dragons. Basically, even if the Nerevarine _was_ physically as powerful as dragonborn, I don't think he could kill Alduin anyway.

Drinks 100 bottles of sujamma then OHKO! :D Jokes aside: Skyrims bad quest design and lore-breaking quests could not make me think otherwise. Maybe the Dragonborn is the most powerful mortal of all time... but nor the Nerevarine is mortal neither the Hero of Kvatch after he/she merged with Sheogorath. There is a reason, why the prophecy of the Dragonborn has to take AFTER the events of Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion like it's told on the wall on Sky Haven Temple. The Tribunal was the last thing next to the Amulet of Kings, the Mythic Dawn feared - because they were known to defeat Daedric Princes (Vivec was victorious over Molag Bal and Sheogorath, Almalexia over Meruhnes Dagon) - so they had to wait for the Nerevarine to kill the Tribunal. Without that - they just had to kill the Septim bloodline to unleash the gates to Oblivion. Also Alduin would not be able to return if a Dragonborn (Septims) sits on the Throne - it was too dangerous. Also godlike creatures like Daedric Princes or the Tribunal would defeat his dragon minions. Conclusion: without the events before - Alduin would be still with Sithis. Nerevarine killed the Tribunal and an aspect of Hircine himself. Carries all the favorite artifacts he/she needs. He/she has over 200 Years of combat experience and is immortal at the date of Skyrim. There is NO WAY, Dragonborn could do this even with his power of the voice. Please do not talk about the Hero of Kvatch. That's a fusion of a mortal who went for a walk to Oblivion, closed like 100 gates and then fused with a Daedric Prince. Also no discussion. And none of them needs the power of the voice to be strong. Hell I hate that silly ability while playing skyrim :D

as far as I know, in skyrim you need to exploit enchantments of Alchemy to create potions that raise your enchantment power to create yet more powerful potions and so on and so on, right? In morrowind you can just chugg fifty potions and jump into the stratosphere. You can run faster than the world can render and you can create your own incredibly broken spells. You ain't touching me with your magic fork that you spent 10 hours grinding. Though I must admit, I'm not aware of any way of humiliating your enemies in Morrowind like freezing them in their combat idle pose and seeing their corpse rolling down the mountains of Skyrim.

Honestly, I think there are feats in favor of the Dragonborn's power, but I also think the lore and direction of the story has changed enough between Morrowind and Skyrim that some of these feats are only being measured by what we experience through the gameplay, and that previously implied or explained disadvantages or effects of using certain artifacts has just been omitted. For example, people have commented that the DB could wield Keening with no ill effects, but the UESP wiki says right on it that the Keening obtained in Skyrim is weaker than the one that featured in Morrowind. I'm biased to liking the Nerevarine more simply because I like the lore and game of Morrowind more than Skyrim, plus the fact that you are Immortal at the end of Morrowind is awesome (not like living in the afterlife, but truly immortal and in the flesh; the Nerevarine is immune to all diseases and does not age).

I'd also like to point out the creation club umbra quest where the dragonborn has umbra and yet doesn't speak to you or give him any negative effects. If you dont know, umbra is one of the most dangerous entities/weapons in all of the ES series. The dragonborn weilds it with absolutely no drawbacks.

I have a question about Keening: Is it possible that the one in Skyrim is a counterfeit? According to the Morrowind Book, Plan to Defeat Dagoth Ur, it says, “Be warned! The dragonborn even at the end if the all the dlcs after killing the ebony warrior and miraak STILL can't kill a weakned barbas who was sperated from vile 50% of his power and the dragonborn is still at the end only half as strong, while the nerevarine fought a full aspect of a stronger deadric prince hircine and defeated almalexia and dagoth ur(who BTW is stronger than vivec or almalexia by the time you fight him), the vestige fought barbas when the he was connected to vile and when the barriers were weianed which would ahve made him even stronger so no the dragonborn isn't stronger than the nerevarine nor vestige at all.

But I guess it comes down to lore vs gameplay. Tbh eso did a better job at portraying the true strength of dragons then Skyrim did, Kaalgrontiid and Nahfahlaar were beasts and it makes the Dragonborns look even more impressive that he slew so many of them.

You’re the direct reincarnation of a king of Morrowind who fought the king of the dwarves, Shor who’s literally a god, the Nords, Wulfarth, flew to the moons and fought a sentient landscape that was lecturing you, nerevar also tried to conquer Aetherius but was cast out by Magnus. He died, and was reborn in the form of the Nerevarine, who united the Dunmer, defeated Almalexia, defeated Karstagg and aspects of Hircine, and defeated Dagoth ur who’s the literal Dunmer Satan. Yea no. The Nerevarine’s lore is just objectively better. The Dragonborn is popular because it’s the latest TES game (aside from ESO).
