By the end of Skyrim, the Dragonborn has potentially pledged themselves to fifteen different Daedric princes, possibly also Sithis, certainly Akatosh, and is potentially a werewolf and a vampire. Theory: They're "the Last Dragonborn" because all those forces will be so busy arguing with one another about who gets the Dragonborn's soul that they'll never actually die, and will remain the immortal God-Emperor of all Tamriel. Also...wow, you guys really hate the Empire, don't you??
@jame9277

You’re leaving out the fact the Dragonborn, having a dragons soul, also shares their ability to absorb the souls of other dragons once they are slain. Given the amount of dragons you kill throughout the game it’s easy to say those Daedra would be rewarded with one of the many dragon souls the DB has and not their individual soul, which ol would go onto Aetherius and eventually back to nirn since the Dragonborn is Ysmir

The Empire 4E is a shell with a rotting carcass inside. Of course we hate the Empire. They should have fought on just like the Redguards did. The Redguards managing to push back the Thalmor despite peace with the Empire is clear indication that the Emperor signed the concordat, with losing conditions to spare his own life and his fathers ascent to the throne. The concordat led to the Redguards seceding due to being betrayed by the Empire and to the civil war in Skyrim. Where is all the indignation of that "rebellion"

I think the dragonborn becoming a vampire lord is canon because he is shown as a vampire on the Dawnguard DLC cover rather then dressed in the dawnguard uniform. It would be really dumb for the last dragonborn to allow himself to die of old age after all.

@@Stormvermin-bx1lh It's neither confirmed nor not that Dragonborn became a vampire or not. Think of the dragonborn's achievements in totality. Killing the emperor or eliminating the dark brotherhood, War hero (stormcloaks or empire), blessing of Nocturnal's luck (as well as leader of the thieves guild), harbinger of the companions, wealthy property owner and thane in every hold, slayer of Alduin , Harkon, Miraak, Countless Dragons, Undead and Bandits, member of the Morrowind Great House of Telvanni, helped the wealthy East Empire Company , killed Windhelm's version of Jack the Ripper, has the artifacts of almost every Daedric Prince, can craft any potion armor or weapon, has influence with either the powerful Volkihar vampires or key member of the Dawnguard, Arch-mage of the college of winterhold (and earned the respect of the Psijic monks in the process, helped the Blades rebuild, and not to mention knows every shout, spell, enchanting technique possible, as well as having helped various characters throughout the game from the menial task to the heroic. Th question isn't whether or not the Dragonborn is fit to be Emperor but WHO COULD POSSIBLY BE A BETTER CANNIDATE?!!!

A while ago I heard someone theorise that The Last Dragon Born isn't exactly the last. The theory said that they are considered the last because the world was meant to end. So if they failed then it they woulld be the last, but they didn't. Time goes on past the point it was meant to stop. leaving a potential for more. This been said, they aren't needed anymore. Another way you could view it is that the Last Dragon Born was the last Needed Dragon Born.

From a game design POV, I could see Bethesda using that as the ironclad basis for not including Dragonborn powers in subsequent iterations of TES. For many players (including this one) Skyrim is their first, and possibly only, experience of TES. Not having the ability to shout in a new game would feel... weird. Best to have a reason to belie those expectations. ='[.]'=

Im more interested in what happens to the world after skyrim. The world was *meant* to end as it had countless times before. I would wonder what happens to the world now that it hasnt. My theory would be rapid entropy. Ive seen story lines before in othet works where people destined to die that dont, meet with even worse fates than their original. Would the world of elder scrolls now start getting much, much worse until it ends in an uglier way?

Here's how I see it: Assume the mantle of Dragonborn, defeat Alduin, unite Skyrim, Claim a hold as a Jarl (one of the ones who you would have defeated during the civil war.), use your status as Dragonborn to sway the opinion of the moot, become high king or queen, don't get assassinated by the Aldmeri Dominion, Allow the dark brotherhood to kill the current Emperor, vie for control of the empire as a Dragonborn Emporer, unite the empire, fight back the Aldmeri Dominion, win.

They could easily deal with this though. Same way they've delt with it in the pass. The Nerevarine was Dark Elf by default but defined by player choice in the wiki. It's not game breaking and often times they just refer to that person as the Nerevarine same would be true for the Dragonborn Emperor. He's just the "Last Dragonborn Emperor" They can refer to him/her by title vs ever referring to them by specific name/race etc. Super easy and honestly with how loose they wrote some of the characters of history's lore like Tiber Septim who is the most famous yet least known in some respects. So totally doable with TES writting style imo. You mean to tell me the most famous man in all of history who conquered all coast to coast no a single person can 110% without doubt claim to know his actual race. There are opinions and the such but its all speculation and conjecture at the end of the day so if that can "pass" the PC becoming Emp is totally doable at the very least they should've became high king via themselves grabbing it OR at least allowing us to marry Elisif. After the story concludes in the Skyrim playthrough the lore could state that person went on (The High King AND Queen of Skyrim went on to reunify the empire or Strengthen it;however you would want to word it. And go on to fight the Dominion OR the next great war against the Akavir.) So whether you are man or female, marry Elisif as a male or female, or take it for yourself regardless and have your own wife/husband depending what the player picked. It still would fit in with that wording "The High King and Queen of Skyrim went on to do XYZ. Then onward to Emperor and Empress" bam. Never once mentioning their personal names or races. Because lets face it at the end of the day our character in skyrim WILL be refered to in canon lore as "The Last Dragonborn" never name, race, or gender so could paint it however you want. OR they will do it like the Nerevarine... "Nord by default; defined by player choice" lmao

@@stevefilms1997 I think Akatosh will choose a new World Eater. He denied the Last Dragonborn access to Alduin's soul, since it would grant the Last Dragonborn the potential to become the World Eater, and Akatosh either hasn't decided who will take up that role, is waiting for us to die to turn us into an actual dragon in the afterlife to one day send back out in Alduin's place (unlikely, given the Last Dragonborn is implied to be a Shezzarine), or Akatosh has a different candidate in mind. Personally I think Paarthurnax is going to become the World Eater. By founding the Way of the Voice, he has proven that he has already overcome the same lust for power that drove Alduin to neglect his role. And sure, the Dragonborn can choose to kill Paarthurnax. But when the Dragonborn dies, Akatosh may be able to reclaim Paarthurnax's mind and soul from the Dragonborn.

I’ve asked this before but people always told me “Oh the Amulet of Kings is gone therefore there’s no reason for there to be Dragonborn emperors” but that doesn’t really erase the Divine right that the Dragonborn has. In a society like Tamriel, are you really going to overlook the legitimacy of one with the soul of a Dragon and the blessing of the God of the Empire? As far as people are concerned, the Last Dragonborn is the latest heir of Alessia. (Edit: Video made a good point) (Another Edit: I have a feeling people are looking at this through the eyes of modern agnostics. People in Tamriel basically know the Gods are real, they answer prayers, a divine dragon literally saved Tamriel from a God of Destruction. They’re not gonna roll their eyes at the Dragonborn claiming divine right like how we would if a Habsburg claimed divine right for the throne of Austria. Unlike a Habsburg, the Dragonborn literally has divine power that he can display. Plus, I doubt the average peasant will think about the Dragonfires considering even at the start of Oblivion Baurus mentions a common misconception was that the Dragon crown was the symbol of the Empire and the most treasured jewelry of the royal family)

Short answer: Yes Long answer: Yes, because people still remember the Septim dyntasty and how the Empire flourished during that time and would want a return to that. Short answer : No. Long answer : No, because Septim Dynasty was over a long time ago, only in Skyrim who still remember Septim Dynasty because Nords worships Tiber Septim, not the Dragonborn. And also, an Imperial Dragonborn join the Dark Brotherhood is very very unlikely. Firstly, why would Dovahkiin try to kill Titus Mede II ? He has no intention to kill the guy except one, he's a Stormcloaks and two, for money and the Dark Brotherhood glory. Assuming he's an Imperial soldier, he would cripple the Empire even more since the Empire lost it's ruler and he can't be the next emperor unless he start a coup d'etat, do you know how Monarchy works ? They aren't going to put him on the throne just because they lost an emperor and you're a Dragonborn. The Dragonborn Empire was over, period. Unless the Mede Dynasty is dead like Septim Dynasty, then he might get a chance to be the new emperor (still very unlikely), or he start a coup d'etat. Even then, do you really think the Thalmors would let that happen ? They must have saw how powerful the Last Dragonborn really was. They might even finish the job before he finish his coup d'etat or even starting it. And don't even get started about "What about Stormcloaks Dragonborn ?" Hahaha, do you really think the Stormcloaks could defeat the Empire without the Dragonborn and the Thalmors intervention ? The reason why the Empire has troubled with the Stormcloaks was because of the Thalmors supported them in the shadow, giving them equipments, war funds etc. The longer it take to stop the Stormcloaks, the more Thalmors gain.
@someguyonyt2831
@someguyonyt2831 4 жыл бұрын
If Dovahkiin side with the Stormcloaks, the Empire would be in critical state (as if it's already) and Ulfric Stormcloaks will be the High King of Skyrim. If Ulfric want to advance to Cyrodiil and other parts of Tamriel, they're going to the real war with the Empire and the Thalmors. And also, no other races will join the Stormcloaks, hell, they're not going to accept any unless they're Nord. Other races except the Khajiits might join the Empire but not the Stormcloaks. So basically, if somehow the Stormcloaks has become the new empire, Ulfric will become it's first emperor, no chance for Dovahkiin, LOL. In conclusion, NO. The Last Dragonborn can't be an emperor, period.

Ohh LanLa This Is Literally the dumbest reasoning i’ve ever actually heard. What in the Actual Fuck Do The Stormcloaks have to do With the Septim Dynasty? The Dragonborn Is A person with the soul of a dragon, dragons come from Akatosh, and many Dragons refer to Akatosh as ‘Father’. The Dragonborn Himself is a A Divine being, albeit Demigod or full blown God, he is Divine. The Mede Dynasty Is highly unpopular in the Empire, nobody likes them for fucking shit, Titus just got his ass kicked and called it a victory in the Great War. The Septim Dynasty Was Highly Successful, they were popular, No Imperial would everr forget the Dragonblood Emperors, they literally brought the Glory Days. The Dragonborn Has A Divine Right To Rule, And That Outweighs Ulfric and Elisif’s Claims For The Throne. In The World Of The Elder Scrolls, religion is not about Faith, It’s An Actual Thing, the Gods and Daedra are real, and they can unleash real blessings or curses that can change the tide of Tamriel and Nirn entirely. Ulfric Has no chance against the Dragonborn even if he Killed Torygg fairly or not. Elisif would have to let go her race for Skyrim’s throne, and Leave Torygg as a memory, Because If The Claim Of The Dragonborn Is Divine, then it’s the strongest claim ever, No Sentient Being, could refuse the Gods Themselves. The Dragonborn Could Become High King Of Skyrim. And Seeing As He Saved The World, Thrice i might add, he’s the leader of every guild. The People Of Skyrim Would See him as A Powerful Warrior King, Talos Reincarnate. Talos Is One Of The Most revered gods by the Nords. And If They Find The Dragonborn worthy, then his claim would be immensely strong. If The Dragonborn was to go for the Ruby Throne, He’d Have The Support Of Skyrim instantly. And If He Succeeds, The Dragonborn can name anyone he wants as High King or Queen of Skyrim. And The People will accept that without hesitation. Finally, Should The Dragonborn Become The New Dragonblood Emperor. He Would Have Massive Support From The People Of Cyrodiil and Skyrim, which in turn could influence Hammerfell to rejoin the Empire. Why? Because The Dragonborn Has Proven to be An Extraordinary Hero, Those Dragons that choose not to follow the way of the voice, Can Choose to Serve the Dragonborn and unleash their desire to dominate over the Elves. Effectively Bending The Dragons to his will. Slowly but surley, Provinces like Morrowind or Black Marsh could potentially rejoin the Empire, Out of Fear of the new power, or they want in on the Hype. As A New Dragonborn Emperor, The Last Dragonborn would remind Tamriel and It’s provinces of tbe Glory days of the Empire, A Strong Ruler and a Strong Empire, the people would be so Hyped up to fight. The Nords would literally revere him as Talos reincarnated. The Last Dragonborn Becoming Emperor= New God Emperor Of The Tamrielic Empire and the Fall of The Aldmeri Domninion and The Thalmor, Watch the fuck out Akavir ur next.

Now that the Thalmor cannot just force a war whenever they please, they have 2 viable enemies now and virtually nothing they can do about it. If the courts of medieval times are anything to go by there's a single recently widowed Jarl in Solitude that could help the Dragonborn in a political sense via a marraige. I doubt Ulfric's supporters could kick up a fuss with their limited numbers if you followed the Empire route. And you would be Ulfric's champion in the stormcloak route and as stated in the vid the Dragonborn would be pretty much Talos reborn in Ulfric's eyes. You get support from Ulfric and Elisif and you pretty much are the ruler of Skyrim. I doubt Sybille Stentor would even try to mess with the Dragonborn and her skill in manipulation could come in handy. The Dragonborn's offspring have dragonborn blood and noble blood from Elisif so the dynasty will have very strong claims in future. The phrasing "the Last of X" is *very* common for protagonists in fantasy, and it *very* often means "the last remaining one at their specific point in time" - who then restarts the tradition. Eragon is "the last Dragon Rider", Aang is "the last airbender" (although his world had to wait for his son to actually restart that tradition), and so on. The prophecy might easily refer to "the Last Dragonborn" in a similar sense.

I think the Dragonborn well could become the emperor, and even though I personally think that "The Last Dragonborn" only applies in the context that the world was supposed to end, and that's why he was titled as the last, even if his dynasty didn't inherit the dragon blood, they _would_ inherit the prestige of being descended from a dragonborn, which would legitimise their claim to the throne.

“Could the Dragonborn become Emperor?” Yes. The answer is definitively yes. Why? Who the @#$& is going to stop them? I mean just being the Dragonborn means they’re a borderline god by the end of the game, but they could also have the backing of the Mages guild, Theives guild, Dark Brotherhood and the Imperials or Stormcloaks. With that backing the Dragonborn could take Skyrim whenever they wanted with ease and from there who in Nirn could stop them? They could just Jabberwock the Empire into submission if they wanted.

I don't know why Bethesda doesn't give players that “Rags to Riches” Story Archetype. For some who is Destined to Take on such Suicidal and Perilous Tasks, surely the Player would be Rewarded by becoming an Emperor or a High Ranking Politician with Power, and even adding in a Secondary Storyline where the Player can do those Sorts of Quests, regarding their Rule or Political Standing. Not to mention that the Player can Order Soldiers, Servants, etc to complete Tasks or Quests or the Player can do those themselves. I don't think that Players feel Fulfilled because they are not Rewarded Properly. The Player just feels like a Pawn, just to be Used or Sacrificed by NPCs and they don't even get the Recognition that they Deserve.

Yeah literally all you can do in Skyrim is become leaders of random guilds and become a low ranking general you’d think that someone that leads all these guilds, runs the college of winterhold as Archmage, being the thane of every hold in Skyrim, and literally won the civil war for either side would be much more powerful politically. Even with saving the world running every guild, running the college, being a high ranking officer or general, you can’t even be in charge of a small village; and that doesn’t include the doesens of times you’ve saved the world from anything from vampire overlords to a dragon unkillable in the mortal realm who is literally called, “THE WORLD EATER” You’d expect being that powerful would give you the right to at the very least become a Jarl of a hold especially after single handedly winning the civil war. You’d also expect that the Thalmor would attempt to recruit, kidnap or assassinate you seeing how much a threat you are to them.

two words: "lazy writing". Okay, to be fair, marketing and management pushing the devs to burp out the game at an arbitrary date rather than when it was finished was why the story has so many missing elements, cut content, and poorly-closed story arcs, but in the end it boils down to someone somewhere choosing to throw quality out the window for one shortsighted reason or another. Or, as a lot of the modding community puts it, Bethesda throws out a half-finished game and then modding tools so we can do their job for them :P

Not only as The Dragonborn does he/she have the prestige seen in the public eye, but also the shadow influence of the Thieves' Guild and The Dark Brotherhood to support his/her ascent to power. As the game is written, by siding with The Stormcloaks, defeating The Empire, weakening The Dominion and depriving them of access to The College of Winterhold, being the chosen champion of all of the Daedra, and an agent of The Divines who restored their pantheon to it's full glory of the nine, The Dragonborn was written to become a Demigod Emperor with the backing of man and god alike, free to forge a new empire, or conquer the existing one.

You guys want an emperor DB than consider this. DB marries Elisif and puts Ulfric as HK than does what the Septims did because they were smart, marry their kid to the King of Skyrim’s kid. The Nords are literally, if you look at TES history, the key to building human empires considering they have been at the back of every empire of man, hell they even had empires of their own and helped Alessia and her little slave rebellion that wouldn’t have succeeded if the Nords weren’t so hell bent on destroying elves that were turning humans into slaves. So to back on track, DB recruits the Nords without bloodshed forcing the imperial legionnaires in Skyrim to choose whether or not they want to fight for or against their kin. The DB, as we know, is an honorary member of the forsworn and is also a daedra worshipper snd therefore can push laws allowing the worship of certain daedra and possibly come to a agreement to allow the nords and bretons to live together in the Reach. After calming the Reach he uses the Bretons their to help him find a way to get high rock into the fold, he does the same with the Dark Eves in Eastmarch and sending help to the Dark elves and boom he has the dark elves, the Bretons, the Nords, and the Orcs considering he’s a friend of the Orcs according to the game. To get hammerfell on his side the DB basically just has to promise the Redguards revenge and boom the rest is up to you guys’ imagination that’s how for I’ve gotten plus it’s late right now. I watched this video 4 years ago and it inspired me to run what is now an ongoing Elder Scrolls D&D Campaign that takes place after the events of Skyrim. In my Table-Top Tamriel's Canon, a scenario happens that isn't unlike the controversial events between Cuhlecain and Tiber Septim but instead with the Dragonborn and Ulfric after the civil war. The Stormcloaks win with the Dragonborn's help, and after Ulfric is Elected High King by the Jarl's Moot, he is mysteriously assassinated by an unknown party, and an attempt is made on the Dragonborn's life "allegedly". The assassin is shouted to ash (Like High King Torygg) leaving behind no evidence. The Jarl's reconvene the moot and elect the Dragonborn the High King given that he was basically a demi-god hero to every Nord alive at the time. In my narrative the Dragonborn almost plays the role of a villain, he kills Paarthunax and restores the blades, abolishes the Way of The Voice, reestablishes the tradition of Nordic Tongues, and dismantles the influence of the imperial doctrine of Saint Allesia's Pantheon in Skyrim, effectively banning what he sees as the gross elven bastardization of Nordic deities. He plans to restore the former borders of Skyrim to what they were in the late Merethic era, and then march even further to create a new empire of man with Shor as it's chief deity. This time he will not repeat what he views as Tiber Septim's biggest mistake, which is accept a surrender from the elves. Obviously at the same time the Thalmor have the exact opposite goals to rid Tamriel of the influence of Talos and Lorkhan(Shor), and either unmake the world or establish elven supremacy whichever comes first. The only thing stopping what is essentially the Dawn War 2.0 from ending the Kalpa and starting a new one, is a crumbling empire that just got it's emperor assassinated and lost pretty much all of it's provinces. So far the players have taken the side of the "centrist" and see both sides as radical extremists that will inevitably change Tamriel for the worse in their own ways. They seek out ways to thwart both sides as agents of the Mede Empire, specifically Attrebus Mede III, my invented second son of Titus Mede II, who is a Jagar Tharn-esc archmage using magical espionage, elder scrolls, and shady deals with daedra to desperately keep the current incarnation of empire alive. It's been very fun as a Table-Top adventure, and just as a thought experiment that started as an answer to the question in the title of this video, but has evolved into so much more. As I've been basically pulling a stream of evolving narrative out of my ass for a little less than 4 years, your guy's videos, podcasts, and your D&D campaign have been a huge inspiration and my players and I would just like to thank you for keeping it going for us.

I believe Skyrim's main character is referred to as "the last dragonborn" because he is the one to kill the dragons for good, because with alduin gone, they won't be resurrected anymore. Some dragonborns didn't slay any dragons according to the whiterun fan guard, meaning that the dragonblood, gift of akatosh is simply an innate power given to those destined to accomplish great deeds?

@@Davidofthelost He took Shor's place in the mythic as the hero-god of humans, he didn't become Shor via mantling. Shor (whether as Shor, Shezarr Lorkhan, Sep and so on) is still a known god. If Talos had mantled Shor himself, no one would know there was a difference between the 2. The Last Dragonborn hasn't yet done anything Talos did besides being given the title Ysmir, there's no mantling going on for TLD from 1 action alone. Mantling isn't just becoming renowned, you have to become virtually indistinguishable from the being in question in a form of extreme imitation. Otherwise every dragonborne would be Talos, and that definitely isn't true. But really, we can be more confident TLD is an incarnation of Shor because they can sit in the throne of Shor in Sovngarde. As we saw in Oblivion, it's impossible to sit in a god or Daedra's throne unless you are that being or have mantled that being and become them. As a Shezarrine, TLD of course would face no obstacle sitting in the throne.
@Davidofthelost
@Davidofthelost 2 жыл бұрын
@@MindForgedManacle But does mantling require the divine or Daedra to willingly be mantled in the first place? Or can one Mantle them and forcibly take their position and powers to replace them? As in the Shivering Isles DLC we mantled Sheogorath, but he was looking for someone to Mantle him and release him from the insanity to return to being jyggalag. Even then we see Sheogorath just about the same in Skyrim so was the Champion of Cyrodiil’s mind taken over by Sheogorath’s personality and they are now locked away forced to watch the Mad God doing whatever he feels like as the fart of a fly? So then by your theory are we being allowed to mantle Shor to restore the worship of a God of Humanity to Tamriel? And would it still be us as the ones who mantled just a new body to host that god?

The "could" answer is simple: Yes, he could. Something people tend to forget is that there are no empire, in Tamriel or otherwise, that has been created without the rule of might. The question of course is of the wider political ramifications - If he supports Ulfric (which is not a given at all - Ulfric is not a particular pleasant person, especially not if you are an elf), the empire or decides to take no part in the conflict only to sweep in afterwards. There is also the question if there even is a functional empire, should Titus Mede II be dead by the hands of the dark brotherhood - whichever way the dragonborn emperor will likely need to contest with the Thalmor, depending of course, on his own actions. If the dragonborn is human, then the Thalmor might just wait till he dies of old age before they do anything for example, they are quite skilled and I suspect they will be a factor even when we come to the elder scrolls VI once that gets released.
