You can still kinda see the dart exiting the barrel as a bluish blur in some shots, which initially made me think the piston goes so hard that it compresses the air within to the point of creating condensation once it expands, like you get with expanding canned gas

Done an air powered demolisher rockets launcher, the stability at higher velocities is bad. Goes like 20 feet straight then fishtailed off and drops velocity very quickly.

These hit at about 4joules of energy. Ie this is a 30mm projectile traveling at about 120fps that weighs 6grams. Which comes to 4 joules. In airsoft my sport of choice 1.85j is considered pretty hot for anything but snipers at range.

Hi Walcom! Engineering nerd here. I would be very much interested in building you a blaster that could fire the colossal nerf dart you showed at the beginning. I’m thinking a mortar, but I could see if I could make it compact enough for an RPG or TF2 Heavy style gun if you want. Let me know if this would be of interest for you. Just letting you know now though, considering how big and heavy that dart looks, the amount of air pressure needed would be approaching scary levels, so keep that in mind.

I am doing short darts with a 300 psi air shock hand pumper with pipe fittings reservoir. The half darts are also weighted with flowable liquid silicone rubber poured inside about 3/8 inch deep. Smooth bore thin steel tube for barrel that has 30mm bore and 17 inch long. Sending darts 60 yards fast and straight. Steam punk kinda looking!

At higher speeds the Mega XL darts do not whistle until it slows down from air friction way down range.
