The Netherlands: Traveling with an ARRIVA Limburg FLIRT

Arriva is one of the largest train and bus operating companies in Europe, owned by German national railway company Deutsche Bahn. They are especially prominent in the Netherlands, where they operate the most trains after NS. In the southernmost province of Limburg, Arriva trains operate local, regional services (and one international service) alongside NS Intercity trains which only service the larger stations. Recently, Arriva has announced its ambitions to run night trains to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
Today we rode a regional service: Arriva RS12 (Arriva assigns route numbers, unlike NS) from provincial capital Maastricht north towards the junction station of Sittard. Find out why these are some of our favorite trains on the Dutch rails.
Arriva is een van de grootste openbaar vervoersbedrijven in Europa en is eigendom van Duits spoorbedrijf DB. Vooral in Nederland is Arriva erg actief, zo zijn zij de grootste spoorvervoerder naast NS. In Limburg rijdt Arriva alle stoptreinen (en de internationale trein naar Aken), terwijl NS Intercities nog op de grote plaatsen halteert. In de toekomst hoopt Arriva nachttreinen aan te kunnen bieden naar Schiphol Airport.
Vandaag reizen we met RS12, de stoptrein van Maastricht Randwyck naar Roermond. We reizen tussen Maastricht en Sittard in een FLIRT treinstel.
