@@MyToranja In my experience, the neurosurgeons win. But 2 or 3 times it was because the neurologists just conceeded pretty early on and walked away. But I know that's not always a case...I'd love to be a fly on the wall if the outcome was different. But only because I would be able to fly away quickly. Sometimes it feels like it never ends!

My hospital hired a second neurologist about two years ago now. A few weeks ago, I finally ran into them both in the same room at the same time and literally had a fear of a black hole opening up between them. A very cordial and intelligent black hole.

I’m a neuro nurse and I worked with 2 neurologist who were both short balding men who wore bowties. I literally could not tell them apart and had to check the notes to see which was which. It was hilarious. They were actually friendly, so that’s a bonus.

@@ceciliavernes9097 In case you want to know: they are used to assess pallesthesia, i. e. your ability to feel vibration (which is a separate sense from touch, temperature, pain...) They come with a scale on the end of the tuning fork that allows you to assign a higher number, usually up to 8, the slower the fork vibrates. So you ask the patient to tell you when he stops feeling the vibrations coming from the fork held against a body part and that gives you a good first idea of if his pallesthesia in that region is intact.

I was once on an orthopaedic ward where the Queen’s Square tendon hammer had been repurposed standing upright to support a pile of different rings of surgical tape. When Neuro came for a consult I think they were laughing for about 5 minutes straight.

Sounds about right. I remember rounding on the Ortho patients who had just had surgery when I was a 4th yr med student. The ortho resident's only goal was to see they were breathing. They couldn't tell you which joint was operated on or replaced unless it was theirs, and their only goal was to get to the OR as quick as possible.

That's not something you want to see. Trust me! That's a bloodbath and the neurosurgeon will come with a scalpel, politely let neurologist talk first then just calmly go for the jugular. LITERALLY! I know from seeing both over a couple of years. A neurologist has lip, hammer, those tiny pins in their arsenal.. Neurosurgery has... Well.. plus gripe for all the patients they referred to neuro who had to go through 5 to 10 years of every test including mental (neurologists LOVE a psychosomatic diagnosis) before FINALLY giving a Diagnosis the neurosurgeon suspected YEARS earlier.

Most are professors by that time. Any neurologist with less than that.. well.. I've been seeing them neurosurgeons, rheumatologists and neurologists 9+ years. The freshly minted neuros will not work even with a gastroenterologist to sort you out. "They know it "ALL"

As an EEG tech, it is my experience that many a young neurologist has mistaken EKG (pulse) artefacts in an EEG for an actual brain wave, due to their shape. I wonder if the bow tie means new neurologist is better at reading EEGs than our regular dude?
