Not so fun fact: the guards that killed the family, each guard had a specific family member they had to kill, to make sure all the family died. I think its interesting if you think that maybe glebs father was assigned to Anastasia

Omg yes and maybe he felt like he failed their cause and betrayed the revolution so he killed himself , Or if anyone knew anya is still alive *which would happen eventually* he'd probably get killed too for being a traitor so he did it to rid himself of the conflict inside of him 🤔

3 years later but I'm still thinking of this. "But it's the silence after that I remember most/The world stopped breathing/And I was no longer a boy" followed by "...but I believe he did a proud and noble task" so perfectly captures a man who recognizes the horror that his father wrought, but denies that horror by convincing himself that his father did something good because he can't stand the alternative
@jocelynbogart15874 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don't hate Gleb, it's obvious that he was probably brainwashed by his father to believing the same views, and scarred by hearing dying children's screams. He's a misguided military man who really cared for Anastasia, and couldn't kill her in the end. I think his character is honestly very human and I love that
@suzannerider94604 жыл бұрын
Jocelyn Bogart I agree with you on all the things mentioned. He is an emotionally scarred person due to what he saw when he was a child. He was brainwashed by his father and the army. He really cares for Anya and loves her. That's why he doesn't kill Anastasia. He fears that he will become like his father . History was going to repeat itself. Sometimes it takes the mistakes of the past to people to understand the way that we are now.

Why are we assuming that the choice to pull the trigger is wrong? The Tsars were basically absolute monarchs who enforced things like slavery. A revolution was needed and leaving heirs to the throne alive is a threat to a democracy (just look at France where the monarchy was reestablished after the French revolution).
@JavertRA2 жыл бұрын
@@mnm1273 They killed three innocent girls and a 13 year old boy. You might be able to justify the deaths of the Tsar and Tsarina, but the children?
@mnm12732 жыл бұрын
@@JavertRA Killing the Tsar was a good thing. Killing the kids wasn't good but was most likely necessary. Monarchs coming back has been a consistent threat to revolution, both the English and the French had the monarchy return after a revolution that included executing the active monarch. The Russian revolutions success was not a foregone conclusion even once the Tsar was defeated. Killing off the kids made sure there wouldn't be any major royals in exile to claim the crown and be a major threat to it. The survival of one of the Tsar's children would have been another aid in foreign intervention, remember the Soviets were being attacked by the US, UK, France, Japan, Greece, Estonia, Czechoslovakia, Serbia, Italy and Romania. Who as an allied force were seen as at least positive to the royal family. The at least partial re-establishing of the Tsars was a real threat (for example with a system like in the UK at the time with a parliament and a monarch with real power, not a figure head like nowadays).
@GiggleGirl1021022 жыл бұрын
@@mnm1273 while a revolution was certainly needed the cost of Alexei and 4 innocent girls was not necessary especially since the tsar had abdicated. And the revolution didn't solve anyone's problems simply opened the door to communism and dictatorship and a broken economy where the rubble had almost no worth. Those who sought usurp the power wasn't for the betterment of Russia but for the sake of power. If they wanted things to be better they might have installed a constitutional monarchy such as great Britain.

The romanovs were monsters. I know it's easy to idolize then, especially as the house the Bolsheviks built is currently trying to start WWIII, but the Romanovs were not better. I like how the play maintains that the royals were no saints, and yet equally maintains that killing the children was too cruel an act. So, the play asks, if this situation DID happen, what would be the ethical thing to do? Gleb wrestles with this question the entire play, and even here, at his most self-assured, you can feel the conflict storming within. What, really, has this girl done? What right does he have to kill her? Gleb is such a good antagonist. Not a villain. Just a good man who thinks he's doing the right thing
@suzannerider94604 жыл бұрын
Gleb feels that it is his duty to kill the last of the Romanovs. His father was probably responsible for the death of Anya' s father. He doesn't know that at the time that Anya is Anastasia.

The real tragic thing about the Soviets and the Bolshevik Revolution isn’t the violence or the philosophy of Communism. It’s the idea that so many people were led by a dream for a better world after the revolution where people could be free and equal, only to find that not only would the war never end, but their own leaders no lingered cared about equality and only wanted to expand their own power and tyrannize over their own people. A fate that has happened to many a well intentioned revolution. And to an American like me, a fate that either has happened to us or is in danger of happening to us
