Like many people I want an EV, and I also have range anxiety, especially as I regularly, for my work, am called out in an emergency to a site that involves a 150 mile motorway return journey, which I am currently using my diesel car for, and I travel this journey at night (it's always at night) holding approx 70-75mph all the way. In our town we have both a Kia dealer and a Hyundai one (yes it's Eden). When I went to see about the four options I was interested in (Kia eNiro and EV6 and Hyundai Kiona and Ioniq5) The Hyundai dealer could only quote the WlTP ranges, but not what they would actually do "in the real world". The KIA dealership had actually taken their demonstrators out on the motorway to test and were able to tell me real world motorway ranges in both eco and normal for both, as well as WLTP. The KIA delaer even allowed me to use the eNiro overnight to test my journey. Guess which way I'm thinking at present?

Hello Roger While I can't speak for the Kia side of things I had extensive drives of the Ionic and for the most part held true to the quoted ranges. Granted this was not at night but did involve quite a bit of duel carrageway driving with heated seats on and the boot stuffed full of heavy camera and sound equipment. If you email edenmedia@edenmotorgroup.com I will personally make sure you get in contact with someone who will be able to help. David

99.9% of people will have a 7kW wall charger? Really? The problem is early EV drivers have had private drives….but as we move to wider adoption more and more people will need to rely on alternative charging infrastructure. The costs now being charged for rapid charging are higher than ICE equivalent fuels and 7kW posts are not where people need them…..who wants to wait 4hrs in an Asda car park? On a positive note it’s why a car like the Kona has an advantage with a real world range of over 250 miles. My first EV, a C-Zero, would have been very difficult to manage without home charging and short range new cars like the Mini EV might be likewise. I feel dealers really need to walk potential owners through a needs assessment and be realistic about this. It doesn’t do the move towards EV well by selling people cars that don’t work for them.

Sorry, I should clarify. It was an assumptive sentence. What I should have said is. 99.9% of people who buy an EV will have a 7kWh wall charger in the UK not the 24 or 27 etc. David
