I wonder if the Auxiliary battery got uprated? The Toyota Yaris, from which this car is based has a very small Auxiliary battery which results in it running flat if you fail to drive the car often/long enough. From their forums, 'often enough' seems to be at least once every 3 days to once a week. When the Auxiliary battery dies, you can't start the car. This model ticks everything I'm looking for in a car, but alas, the Auxiliary battery issue has put me off getting one. However, if Mazda have fixed this issue, I might give it a test drive.

The battery problem has also put me off buying a Yaris. I bought a new Honda Jazz EX Hybrid in May 2021, I'm retired and don't do many miles, my current mileage is just under 3,700 but my Jazz has now been through three winters and has never failed to start even though the mileage is so low. I'm guessing if I change to a Yaris I will suffer with the flat battery problem.

@@calibreman That’s what puts me off too. If you trawl the Toyota forums there is a 90 odd page thread of people suffering from this issue. My big question is does it affect all models? Or just models from a particular year? These are questions that reviewers should really be answering.

I wish the US got a wider range of cars like this one. A 1.5L turbo engine and a manual transmission in this size would be awesome and it would be a pretty cool Golf competitor

Can we stop acting as if "self charging" is a feature? Having a battery so small that charging it from the grid would be pointless even if you could do it isn't a selling point.

The hybrid cars have almost half the fuel consumption as just combustion alone so seems to be doing something

@@MrSprinkles1F369 I never said it doesn’t do anything. I was criticising the fact that it’s marketed as if “self charging” somehow made it better than plugin hybrids because you don’t need to (can’t) plug it into a wall.
