That's why Razer changed it's ways in 2023. Now a Razer Blade 16 is a full performance all decked out Intel 13900H and max 4090, it beats 3090Ti desktop. These asus machines are arguably way better in looks or battery life but they don't have anywhere close to that performance. I love that we are in the era of great looking gaming laptops now, words cannot describe how much i hate all those grills RGB lights and aggressive design. This is up there with Macbooks and the Blade for how clean they look! I had a '22 G14 6700s, the design and UX was amazing but the performance left a bit to be desired. Then last summer I switched to a TUF F15 with a 4070, and even though it looks quite a bit less attractive (though still surpassingly understated!) the performance is insane for the $999 I got it for ($400 off MSRP at the time, but now it's easy to find it for that price). I still own the 2020 g14 with the 4900HS and I love this line of laptops. I'm shocked with the redesign however, it's odd to me they removed the airflow features that stuck out to me, like the unique hinge that pushed it off of the table and the side vents.
@HHalcyon Жыл бұрын
I mean this should be the highlight of how much worse the new lineup is. I own a 2022 G14 and I definitely do not like the hinge change. That's downright criminal to make it by that much worse. The 4mm being shaved off instead of giving it more thermal headroom is also mental. I do not care for any of the specs if something so fundamental is made worse. G14 was already tiny at the expense of quite a lot of other things. Now it's smaller which means they compromised even more. Did the target audience change? 2024 is definitely not going to be my upgrade year - new G14 just sucks and it's not air.

Loving the video, wanted to leave here a comment for support and appreciation of the fact that Dave2D gave us 2 videos in a row, thank you I had a pretty good evening watching them! Also wanted to give my opinion about these laptops: for me, the g14 was always small, so I would definitely go with the g16. Saidly that the processor is not the most powerful, I would give up on thickness and make it slightly bigger so that it will fit and cool down properly the laptop. About ergonomics and design, they are awesome! I had a 2021 zephyrus m16, that had the same ergonomics as the old g16 and g14, and it had a massive problem! The problem was in the feaking hot air that was blowing on the screen! I immediately from the box had a broken device that had cooling issues, and that blew up my screen matrix so hard that after a couple of months of use, it started flickering and blicking, and after a while that was the reason why I switched to the newest 2023 Razer Blade. About the screen of this g14 and g16, I am not sure, I am tired of seeing companies using some risky technology like OLED, saying "Oh, no worries, we did all to make sure it will never break". And then if you get a semi-broken device, that is at first not really noticeable, like I got with my old m16, the weakest part of it will definitely be in danger, and after your warranty expires, the OLED, that is the weakest, could just break. But overall these are pretty cool devices, if I had not bought myself a Razer Blade I would probably look at these guys, because they are so clean and powerful!

I keep good maintenance on my g14, clean fans regularly, and repaste the thermal paste, and it runs at max 85C on the cpu. It seems like it’s still easy to get into with these models, but damn, no ram upgrades. Hope this isn’t the start of the G14 loosing everything that made it unique and a solid MAC alternative that was upgradable and repairable.

If the 16 inch coming with that silver color and IPS LCD panel, I am getting one for sure. Cant wait.

It really worse to be poor in a country that it's a struggle to survive everyday. I have wanted a G14 ever since the 1st edition Dave reviewed. You'll think a 4 year old laptop will be affordable in 2024 but when all you think of daily is food there is no room for anything. Can't afford a laptop can't afford a decent phone to be creative in seeking online opportunities.

I like the old design better and the old one has upgradable RAM. It’s a shame they’re stepping back on upgradeability.

I have the 2023 M16 4080 version and the thing that blows me away isn't the awesome Mini LED screen, but the friggin speakers. Slight tweaking with Dolby Access, I think they sound better than the macbook pro speakers. Def best in class sound. So good!

Yikes. This is a major step back for the G14. On the 2021 version that I currently use, one of the ram slots was swappable. It was also the last version of the Zephyrus G14 that had a print screen button. I really don't understand the purpose of replacing the Animatrix. That line just eliminates any option to customize. This is one of the worst upgrades for the Zephyrus G14 brand. Hard Pass
@jesusbarrera6916 Жыл бұрын
mind you, most people didn't get the animatrix display, so it probably made no sense to keep that design

You can either get swappable ram or a third fan.

I am all ready to shell out upto 4k for a new 4090 laptop, and I will be waiting for asus to launch the new G16 next month, probably with rtx 50 series, but if there’s no white g16, I already have my eye on a new legion 4090 and will also mean savings!

I always wanted g14 since 2022. Partly because cause that had amd CPU gpu combo. Kinda disappointed Asus left amd GPU for Nvidia one. The question is, which chip is better for battery? amd 8000 series or the Intel meteorlake one?

Another thing for OLED is the pixel response time is much faster than lcd. The pixel being self emissive means it near instantly changes.

It sucks that everything got better but you lose the addon ram. You used to be able to get the additional ram slot which let you have both soldered and swappable ram. I hope the fan noise has improved over the last generation. The fan noise ramps up really high and it sounded like a turbo taking off.

I'm way on the other side about the big slash. Thus laptop seems to have everything I need, and only two things have me hesitating: no side number pad on the keyboard, and that slash. 😂

Finally they managed to change the entire model. It added more aesthetics now that it is more sharpy. However, when are they gonna add the Asus RGB logo in the back as all companies do, for gods sake? It would of been a beast.

I've been loving my 2024 G14 that I've been using for a day now - as for the Print Screen button, I just rebound the M4 key to do Windows+Print Screen with one button press - so in fact this is actually an improvement for me!

LTT explained why they had to make a proprietary charger. Something about the amount of volts it would have to push just to reach the required wattage, causing a very heavy brick and potentially overheating.
