To prevent the cab from leaning forward... -Make sure you transform the legs first before securing the front panels with the front wheels (also makes the transformation a little smoother because it prevents the side blue panels from bumping on to the wheels) -The knees and the hips have to be fully straightened out. By that I mean you have to make sure that all the line details in the legs are all squared out and parallel relative to each other. -And then you can tab in the truck bed / legs onto the cab section. You can push it a little further to be more sure that everything is straightened out. And then you can finally secure the front panels of the cab Note: You don't have to shave down anything. If you shave down the tabs you're refering to in the video, you might risk losing the security of the tabs.

a fun fact about that matrix model (that you might already know, but this is engagement so enjoy it) it's older than the figure itself, having been made for the previous Mainline Optimus back in Earthrise, which was a more mechanical take on Prime it was then reused for the SS86 Hot Rod, then again for kingdom Galvatron, then again for Rodimus, then again for that VNR Optimus, then again for SS86 Ultra Magnus, and finally used again here the Matrix was already pretty small for Earthrise Prime, and SS86 is bigger than that guy, so it's just comedic at this point

If you squeeze his front and back hip skirts while adjusting the hips, it becomes really easy to straighten his legs out for robot mode. Also, the material that the axe and blast effect parts can occasionally melt plastic if it remains in contact with it for too long. It's not super common and usually only happens in warm rooms, but definitely something to watch out for.

I used to be not that happy with the backpack, but having him in hand, it makes a lot of sense why it had to be that way. The butterfly joints need to be in that part of the torso, as well as the matrix chamber, and making that more or less one big piece of joint plastic makes him really sturdy.

SS86 Optimus is just such a great figure for the size, and I'm not as bothered by the backpack as I thought I'd be. It looks fairly alright from most angles except the complete side and it helps the great engineering, so I can't complain. Being a SS collector (due to lack of money) I'd 100% pick this one up if I was anyone else who collects this class.

Even though it isn't as cartoon-accurate, a lot of the transformation is similar to Earthrise Optimus. While you miss out on Roller and the effect parts, the Earthrise version is surprisingly close to G1 Optimus, comes with a lot of the same accessories, and is about $30 cheaper.

the figure that fits into roller is an example showing that any of the headmaster figures that have been sold in mainline for a while can fit in the seats. I've got a few myself and while it's a bit tricky getting them in there, it does work 👍 but the don't peg in anywhere in the seat

something to note about the legs!! they may not tab in properly if they aren't totally straight. when you bend the knees all the way forward, they bend sliightly backwards to make them look a little more angular. there's a seam near the knee hinge on the thigh that IS 90° with the rest of the leg though so lining the leg up with that should reduce any resistance if any is there

I mean, aside from the heel fix if it does bother you (it did not for me) and small peg issues, the only other recommendation I could make is, IF and only IF you want a G1 toy look, or an evergreen look for this already fantastic G1 Optimus Prime, you can invest in the Toyhax set that adds more details to the robot mode, truck mode, and even the trailer. I only applied them for the robot mode and trailer for some needed color, but it's your figure, and you can customize it to however you feel need be.
