When I was a young and upcomer playing the drums I went from the basic 1/4 beat of typical R&B to Rock because the drummers had a lot more to add to the song. THEN i heard the Nite Lighters and New Birth and Harvey Fuqua. I listened to his work diligently. Worked very hard at matching his licks note for note. Well that was 30 years ago. currently I'm rebuilding a band to play concerts in the park etc and New Birth will be in our line up. Thanks for the memories.

I agree.. but the WHOLE band as well as ALLL the vocalists were S T E L L A R !! The horn section aka The Nite Lighters" if you listen to their horn arrangements in the background... you can tell, they were true musicians ! Probably played in high school /college bands. Bass player, man, always killing it on bass for example "Pains of Love ". And the drummer was killin' dem beats on "You Are What I'm All About".

When Harvey Fuqua had future Supreme Susaye Greene sing this instead of Londee Loren (aka Lottie Wiggins), he really got the most for his money. Not only did Susaye kill the track but, to her credit, Londee learned to duplicate Susaye note for note in live performances, and her voice went from sounding like an early Michael Jackson (such as on New Birth's version of "Never Can Say Goodbye") to actually singing in the same register as Susaye on songs like "Do It Again" and "Stop, Look & Listen." Please give them a listen and let me know if you agree. (By the way, that is Harvey and Carolyn Willis of the Honey Cone's voices on the spoken intro.)

@LaeSheah: There is a longer version of this on KZbin. Vocals are by future Supreme Susaye Greene because Harvey Fuqua was reportedly unable to get the vocals he wanted out of Londee Loren (Wiggins). However. Londee more than made up for it in live performances of this song, as well as future New Birth recordings, such as the incredible "Do It Again." That's Harvey and Carolyn Willis of Honey Cone speaking on the intro. Susaye does an updated version of this on her Facebook page..

Yesss ! Londee did a great job on these vocals. I love ALL the songs she led...especially "Patiently " However on "Until It's Time to Go", Susaye Green, recorded this song 1st, in the studio for New Birth, because Londee was sick or outta pocket at the album studio session....Londee later recorded it and always sung it at LIVE performances. Londee recorded and performed it like Susaye Green (almost note for note and phrasing). You can barely distinguish the 2 versions. Not sure, but I think Susaye Green was a member of New Birth's original line-up then left the group. Susaye Green eventually became a member of the last line-up of The Supremes.
@MusicLoverPearson5 жыл бұрын
@@wesgriffin6081 The reason why Susaye Greene sang on this song is becasue Londee couldn't hit the notes the way the producer wanted her to do it? so they called in Susaye she was never an original member of New Birth.When New Birth did this song in their shows they said Londee killed live.
