I found a decent deal and ended up still going for the original mini. More affordable, more compact and does everything I need from a portable Amp, I can spare the bells and whistles. However if the extra size and extra price isn't a problem, I can understand your disappointment. This one is loaded with features from the bigger Katana brothers.

@ the tuner is the part I wish was on the other mini. The other small amp I have: the orange crush mini, has a built in tuner, and it’s super useful because of it.

I bought a Katana mini a year ago. And I really don’t want to upgrade to a mini x for double the price. I think that the gain settings and delay on the regular mini really takes you a long way.

I am torn now on which small amp to get for my desk now. The Fender Mustang LT40S, I like this one because of the small footprint, and you can use the app to tweak sounds. The Fender Mustang Micro Plus, I like this for the even smaller footprint and using the app to tweak sounds. Now, Boss Katana Mini X, I have owned the Mini, and I liked it. This looks like a great upgrade to the Mini. Being able to use an app to tweak sounds and store presets would be great, though.

I have the original mini what a killer sounding amp , 10 watts now instead of 7 trust me throw it on the brown sound you will say how can this be just 7 watts I love the simplicity no digging through apps old school , this comes close to a perfect home amp, imagine it had a effects loop , but yes I am seriously thinking of this upgrade, another video would be how does this Mini take pedals would be interesting but you can't go wrong with this amp,

It seem the biggest upgrade is the FX section. Original Katana Mini only has delay, but Mini X actually has reverb. I still wish it had FX Loop and it still uses AA batteries instead of Lithium Ion.

Main problem with school band practice is the size of the room. In a small room, fine... in the hall you're going to need 30W, probably 50W.

The synth affects are pretty bad , but theyre very bad even on the bigger amps ,BUT the one thing boss got right is Not putting the knobs and controlls on the rear pannel in a recessed area awkward to fiddle with while playing ,

You don't need a mic to make it audible, you use a mic as an option to record, or send to mixer/front-of-house. Like when people mic huge cabs too. Beyond that, it puts out sound for its size and power class.
