Vehicles like this and the harrier are why jets should be ranked purely by the AAM they carry. They are just weapon delivery units. If they can't compete at that BR then drop down a gen in missiles and reduce BR. Rinse and repeat until they are balanced. In every vehicle prior to AAM I would say weapons should rank fairly low on the weighting of BR. But missiles, particularly from 9E (and their contemporaries) on start to trump the actual performance of the vehicle.

I think the A7D is actually balanced decently. The Harrier Gr.1 should definitely be at a higher br though, because it can be a struggle even when using 10.0s and 10.3s to beat the Gr.1. I haven’t had that much trouble out of the A7D, primarily because it takes longer for it to lock a missile, and if you are maneuvering before it can fire one, then there’s a high chance that you’ll be able to dodge the missile especially if you know the right way to do so. There is a video by Zetaris that shows the best ways to dodge missiles, and I’d watch that then try to practice using those dodging maneuvers until you can get the hang of it. Good luck though, because learning something new in the current meta can be VERY painful.

Your description actually hints at a bigger problem in Air RB. Under the current arena deathmatch format, everyone converges within the engagement envelope of a single missile, so then the only aspect of combat that matters is how many G's your missiles can pull. If this were real life, with combat spread over the entire countryside, your plane's performance has a very real and substantial impact on the delivery of your missiles, and the game becomes much more interesting. With a better performing plane, your missile gets an instant energy boost leaving the rails, which extends its engagement envelope and allows you to tackle longer range enmies.

nevermind starstreak missiles anyways, they're pure pursuit and don't use proportional navigation- which is something even basic AIM-9Bs manage to do, while the Starstreaks don't.

Very relaxing gameplay, disappointed that the radar and HUD is not modeled even though radar was shown in the model on dev server and they mentioned HUD in its devblog lol. I did a bug report but fat chance it does anything. They gave us the standby sight as default instead.

Too many people seem to think this thing should be judged as a fighter. But the only effective distinction between the A-7D and Buccaneer is guns. Both are designed to pound the living crap out of ground targets. PERIOD. With actual fighter planes providing air cover. Taking the A-7 into Air RB for the memes is one thing. The bitching about it in various online posts is bizarre. Air to air maneuvering wasn’t even close to the number 1 consideration in the design. I’m guessing because it was developed from the Crusader, people think it will fly like the Crusader. It’s a jet powered bomb truck, not a fighter-interceptor. Then they moan about the radar. It does terrain mapping to feed the CCIP computer information for nuclear and conventional toss bombing attacks, with a limited air search capability (depending on model?). But it’s not meant to be an air search and track system. Fighter RWRs would notice that long before you got a decent return. That gets you dead or forced to dump your bombs. I’m ranting aren’t I? Sorry. I guess I spent too much time researching pre-WWII to late Cold War aircraft for various tabletop air combat games. 🤦🏼‍♂️

They made it faster, but a little less maneuverable at low speeds, right? Edit: Fighting it still feels the same and requires the same old maneuvers and playstyles when using the MiG-15s and 17. I’m not sure about what it’s like using other aircraft, but it still seems almost the same. The A4E also uses the same FM, right?

Map ur elevator controls to W an S. Typically W for nose down and S for nose up. When pulling a high g turn just tap the W key to pump more blood into ur pilots head

airspawn flares that completely negate missiles you will face 2 Aim9Js best guns in the game huge secondary payload (6tons of bombs AND missiles ... what a joke) and repair cost that makes it basically free to repair as you can (stock) repair this thing by doing NOTHING whole match ... ... same BR as F5, Yak38 and F3H Demon ... no just no it should be 9.7 ... just compare it to poor Yak ... no airspawn no flares R-60s are bugged so bad id take AiM9E over them ... largest payload you can carry with missiles is 2x 250kg ... the gun SUCKS ... no ammo, sparkles like crazy, no pen, basically useless for ground targets and nearly as useless for airtargets because of how unmaneuverable Yak is ...
