I started my first 40k army at the beginning of 10th edition, and i went with deathwatch.. Over the past year ive bought 10,000 points of deathwatch, spending $4960 ($800 on divergent chapter upgrade sprues and DW upgrade sprues so they are fully GW molded pauldrons) highly anticipating the DW codex only to be crushed by the Agents codex. I bought 3 of all the kill teams, 27 terminators with 18 Cyclone Missile launchers including the ones for proteus.. Its just so disrespectful for GW to know since they announced a redacted codex or longer that they were killing off the deathwatch as a standalone army.. They should of let people know from the beginning of 10th edition and said "hey heres some rules for deathwatch users if you want to play them but we are folding them into an agents book so dont build more unless you really want to" i could of spent that $5k building 5x other armies that i could actually play. Im around 70% built but all as deathwatch, nothing painted yet so i dont know what i am going to do. I can still play index rules with friends but its soul crushing. I wont invest in Agents to play my deathwatch already spent too much that i can't play with Agents will probably lose support in 11th edition lol

Depending on which models they are, you can play them as a regular marine army. The Terminators will be iffy, but as long as you are clear with your opponent about it, should be good. I probably have a lot of "illegal" loadouts on the veterans myself.

I've made all these points about the army before. My personal gripe is more to do with me starting to collect DW this edition. If they intended to fold the faction this edition, then why give them sheets at all and give us rules for over a year. I've had people tell me that wasn't the plan and that's a new thing, but given the logistics of printing, they've been planning the folding for close to 9 months to a year. We should have complained more when the index came out because the Fortis and DW Terminators have terrible rules. Terminators get the rapid ingress beacon, but they lazily copied over the Assault Terminator rule while also relevant, why give them the option for 3 heavy weapons at the same time, irrespective of squad size. This is in addition to the lack of the Kill Team tag, making them a worse choice for bolter strats while also having solid bolter bodies to use the strats. Fortis Doctrines is the worst rule for any unit this edition. A +1 to hit rolls when targeting a unit under half strength isn't just bad, it's functionally pointless. The bolt rifles that the five Intercessors that you HAVE to run already have Heavy and Assault, which sound kind of random for me to point out, right? The other options are Hellblasters, Assault Intercessors, or Outriders. All of which hit on 3s anyway, but given that they don't get Heavy or Assault on any of their weapons, it's still not a good option as they all lose their rules from their specific unit types. You pay 115 per five models, for worse intercessors who are 80 for five with a better rule. Essentially you paid 35 points more for a unit with no rules 90% of the time. That should have been our warning that they didn't care and wanted to kill the faction. All of this is deeply disapointing.

there is one good case use for the DW terminators having the Assault Terminator rule, and that is combo it with 1st company detachment a terminator chaplain, and the fear made manifest enhancement so the chaplain has a 6" aura where if an enemy infantry unit fails a battleshock within the radius 1 model is destroyed, and once per game D3 models are destroyed instead. make it easier with some reivers ect or a whirlwind and you could D3 drop some custodes from a unit or some chonk infantry unit just from charging them if the fail the BS test.

@@WildAce001 But Assault Terminators are 175 points per five. DW Termies are 210per five. You could do the exact same combo with either Assault Termies or Regular ones. DW Termies's "big" thing is getting 3 heavy weapons: however that is irrespective of squad size and a Proteus Kill Team can do the exact same thing for less and you can give 4 vets in that better Thunder Hammers (3A, 4+, S10, AP-2, D3 [Dev Wounds]) while also getting +1 to hit vs units above Half-Strength

The rules for the kill teams and the squad construction is just so horrible this edition.

@@thepaladinjournal oh yeah for sure when I first started to eye 40k and deathwatch in general was tail end of 9th that was when I started my initial planning and the dumbing down in 10th was horrible for war gear and everything
