This was the game that hooked me on video games. I was a young kid in the 80s who often just watched other kids play or I’d just watch the “insert coin” attract mode over and over. Then one day I walk into this milk bar to discover someone had left a credit in the machine. So I pressed start and that intro to the game starts. Something switched in my head and within an instant I was a full blown arcade addict. I would spend my pocket money on that game once a week and I would think about it when I wasn’t playing it. It is a bit amusing to think my first ever arcade game experience was what’s now considered to be one of the hardest games of all time. And I never passed the first level back then.

I would love to know what the game creators were thinking though. "We have a game that most people will never beat even once. Why don't we make it where the player has to beat it twice to get the real ending..."
@dreadtheweekend Жыл бұрын
I salute you forgetting that far🫡. I played it on the ZX Spectrum in 1987 and I don’t recall getting much further than the first save point. I can’t imagine there are many kids from the 80’s that didn’t play this game on one system or another.

I never saw this cabinet out in the wild, so this was fun to see. I grew up with the C64 Ghosts ‘N Goblins which has way different music but was still fun (and punishing). The sound really was great on this and the faux CRT looked perfect, especially with scan lines. Those usable coins were a nice addition as well. Great review as always!
@marathi22 Жыл бұрын
A few years ago, someone actually made an updated version with the arcade music and more. Interestingly they actually kept the original c64 theme for the first level, they probably thought it was too iconic. But search Ghost'n Goblins Arcade for the C64, it's pretty amazing!

All of these mini arcades I've seen on KZbin recently have given me the idea to build a doll house style arcade. I thought about building a display case about the size and shape of a coffee table with a glass top and carpet on the floor. Inside I can have rows of mini arcade cabs, a pool table, and also include Mario action figures of the same scale.

Those New Wave Toys Replicade cabinets are as close to shrinking a real full sized version of an arcade cabinet as you can get that I've seen. This game isn't desirable to me but appreciate what they did with it.

The first thing that caught my eye was the Japanese Dai Makaimura title art on the side of the box. This machine is pretty cool, so I decided to go their website, they have a lot of great stuff on there. Bezerk, Frenzy even a talking Zoltar replica. I thought the coolest thing was, as a long time smoker and being old enough to remember them, they sell replica cigarette machines (no ciggs USB charger). What a great way to finish off your home retro arcade. I know smoking is not good, but seeing the machine does bring back fond memories of the golden days of arcades

The NES version was absolutely bad, because it was a port of the original arcade game turned into a horrible mess and it was the hardest game ever made. Micronics developed the port, and Capcom published it. Micronics also developed “1942”, “Tiger-Heli”, “Athena”, “Ikari Warriors” and other games for the NES.

First, NWT has done another great job with G'nG. Next, both versions are the most difficult arcade game for me and I LOVE both of them. It's great that I don't need to keep running to the change machine. Speaking of change (ahem) Charge Machines, I realized with this one and then Berzerk, I am going to need another Charge Machine. Oh, and yes NWT now has the cigarette machine chargers, and that older looking one is pretty sweet, I just can'y by a cigarette machine.

Ghosts n' Goblins...I hated this game so much that every time I think about the Nes port I still seeth. What's strange is after hating the arcade original I still asked for the Nes port when it released. I figured it would be like Strider (for example) and feature more varied gameplay...fat chance. However, Ghouls n' Ghosts is my freaking jam. I got it in 1989 for my Genesis and it looked so close to the arcades I felt like I died and went to heaven. I didn't even care that I had to run through it twice as it was double the awesomeness. I will buy this for Ghouls n' Ghosts alone....sold, sold, sold! Question- What is powering the games? Is it a System 16 on a chip or some type of low yield Android device? Can we add more ROMs to it? As in can it be modded? For reference- Arthur can fire in 4 directions in Ghouls n' Ghosts. For example if you press up and fire he will shoot upwards. Oh and get the knife. Avoid the flame and the axe depending on where you are.
