What are you talking about? This show was always critically acclaimed until the last couple seasons, when people basically forgot about it and it was cancelled. It was on Fox and they have a weird barometer for keeping shows. They cancelled NG but then gave them a shortened final season. Then they went and cancelled Brooklyn Nine Nine, again because it wasn't "popular" to them.

When New Girl was still in production, myself and all of my all-male dorm mates watched it together religiously and it became a staple of our group friendship. Much like Friends did for so many.
