I’m relatively confident the showrunner stole my life somehow. My name is literally Nick Miller, I took the LSAT and applied to law school and then changed my mind before I even started, wanting to be a writer instead, but now I can barely bring myself to write anything and languish away in service industry jobs. I’m not from Chicago, but I’m from close enough in the Midwest that I’m a Chicago sports fan. I even look a bit like him, at least in broad strokes, and I share a lot of the neurotic qualities that come off as quirky for a character on a show but are actually pretty debilitating in real life. It’s too much to be coincidental. Hell, at one point in the show he calls himself “Nicky Blue Eyes” in spite of the fact that the actor doesn’t have blue eyes. But you know who does? Goddamn straight. They gave him a nickname that fits me better than it does the character. It’s uncanny.

So here’s the thing: New Girl is one of those shows that requires some level of investment. Sure, the 7th season isn’t great, but to people who followed the journey of the characters for months or years, it’s a lot funnier and just makes more sense in general. Honestly, I just recommend watching the show the whole way through. Completely worth it!
@jjcymbolic2 жыл бұрын
The defeats the purpose of this youtube series, and he does mention that people are going to say what you just said. The thing is, when it comes to tv series, every episode, to the best of their abilities, needs to be good enough to pull a new watcher in. Even the very end. You don't want someone to see snippets of a show and think, "Man, this looks dumb/boring/silly/etc, and decide not to touch it." While people shouldn't judge a series based on a single episode, they totally do.

The actor that plays Coach left after the pilot to continue on his other show, ‘Happy Endings’ and reappears throughout the show (especially after HE got axed). Winston easily becomes the best actor on the show and the most genuinely funny! I think season 7 was crafted as a love letter to the fans who lobbied so hard to get closure on the show but it definitely was major fan service and not necessarily peak writing.

I think this is the first time you’ve covered a show that I hold in super high esteem. It was interesting seeing the 7th season from your perspective. I agree with another commenter that it’s more of an epilogue type feel. I love it because I love the show, but I can see how, without context and deep abiding love of the characters and running gags, it can fall flat. Do you have to watch it? No. Will you want to if you’ve grown to adore this show over the years? Probably.

I have laughed out loud more times watching New Girl then I have any other show on tv. Not only that, but no matter how many times I’ve seen an episode, I’ll always catch something one of the characters says or does that I missed the last 12 times I watched it. It’s because they allow them to improvise and talk over each other and they even have a certain way they set up the cameras to get those shots. It makes it feel so real and I think why so many people relate to it and want so badly to be friends with them.

the seventh season is filled with content that are basically inside jokes for all who have seen all 6 previous seasons. i actually like it because even though these storylines seem random, a lot of them are actually meaningful to the character development these people have gone through. but i must admit that they did jess’ character dirty and jess and nick deserved a way better wedding
@Wxyzbbgyk2 жыл бұрын
OMG I AGREE! I felt like that episode was so cheap when you look at weddings in the past on the show (cece and shivrang for example) and it doesn’t really fit the demographic for the 7th season. People who watched and enjoyed the 7th season most likely watched the show for the storyline as well as the jokes and were more investing in the Jess nick ordeal. So it just feels off to have them have such a small, weird, and kind of unsentimental wedding. Like the eyepatch and the hospital and the dress were all just weird

New Girl is like my favorite comedy show. I think it’s top tier comedy. I do think season 6 is like the final epic of the show while season 7 is like the epilogue so it’s not as strong. But I actually like a lot of the final two episodes. I see why w/out context to a lot of stuff, that you’d find it unfunny but from a fan’s perspective, it was a great final episode. It stayed true to the characters. Something Dylan doesn’t know about is the time jump. All the characters have moved on since season 6 so not fully caring about the apartment makes sense. They had to do that long ago. And the joke of Winston’s final prank is great because the whole series run, he can’t figure out when a prank is too far or too lame. So I definitely recommend the show 100%. I love it!

It's hilarious but doesn't really rely on punch lines and has more of a slice of life attitude to the episodes (explaining the way certain scenes end on a low). Edit: This show has some of the best character development I've ever seen, especially with Schmidt and Winston (Winston becomes one of the funniest characters since they throw out the masculine basketball player character trope and he leans into his weird, quirky self). Jess does become a bit annoying and there are several cameos from hilarious actors. Also season 7 is definitely a throw away season lol.

The joke you didn't get "can I get a tampon" was related to Schmith being the only guy in that company, the rest of the employees are women. I liked the show, the first few seasons are more related to jokes, and it slowly starts turning into more meaningful content, they give the characters more depth, and problems, and naturally the characters start "maturing" too. I liked the last episode, the game they played was a game they played each season it was "their thing." Also, Winston's 'thing' with pranks are that he either goes too low scale that the pranks are lame, or goes too hard (hence, him pranking them of getting evicted lol)

Not him skipping 7 seasons, getting confused and weirded out and then says “there has to be a story here” ….. yeah Dylan 😃 literally thought the first few seasons were actually really good, I recommend!

the last season is arguably the worst one and many fans of the show felt like i didn't really feel like the rest, it was different. i watched an interview with the cast a while ago and if i remember correctly they explained there that their network cancelled the show after the sixth season and dropped them. the actors fought for another season feeling as though the show wasn't finished yet and they wanted to give the fans a better and more satisfying ending. so they actually wrote the last season themselves which might explain why it feels so different from the rest - it's because the actors wrote it. overall i really really love this show and i recommend that you watch it beginning to end because it's really good. one of my favourites for sure!

right like i'm glad the final season exists bc i'm a fan of the show and i'm glad the characters had like closure in their stories but it's definitely skippable on re-watches and the weakest season also I totally reject the nick and jess wedding being like "of course it's a mess, it's us!" when that already happened with the proposal

augh. while i appreciate the sentiment and it definitely shows that they cared about the show and its audience ... sometimes you just gotta know when to stay in your lane. and i don't mean that no actors ever should try their hands on writing scripts, or that anyone should never try anything outside their niche or expertise. but these actors are definitely great in bringing a script come to life, instead of creating the script. should've looked for a proper writing team instead of doing it themselves, imo. (or even just bring the old writing team back if possible.)

@@mophead_xu thank you! some bits were funny, but it actually felt like it gave me more questions than answers to questions, it was so annoying to watch from what i remember

@@corymorrow5329 which is a damn shame because when we had cable, new girl's last season was what introduced me to the sitcom. it being (apparently) the weakest season is such a disservice honestly.
