Honda Motorcycles Australia has launched its new CB750 Hornet naked bike priced from $13,474 rideaway.
INFO MOTO recently tested the all-new model to see if the revived Hornet lives up to its name.
What we like:
- Great new engine
- Strong value
- Fun to ride
Room for improvement:
- Uninspiring ergos
- Conservative styling
- No quickshifter as standard
The new CB750 Hornet is well positioned against its key rival in the Yamaha MT-07HO ($14,499), and is considerably less expensive than premium middleweight naked bikes like the Triumph Street Triple R ($18,090) and Aprilia Tuono 660 ($21,330).
Honda’s latest offering does not directly compete with the likes of the Kawasaki Z650 ($11,279 plus on-roads) and Triumph Trident 660 ($14,240 rideaway), as these models are only available with a restricted LAMS tune in Australia.
Motivating the Hornet is a 755cc parallel-twin that generates 67kW and 75Nm, making it ineligible for LAMS approval and pitting it against full-power mid-weight naked sportsbike models.
The soon-to-launch Suzuki GSX-8S is one such competitor, which is expected to hit Australian showrooms in August, and will be priced from $14,190 rideaway.
For reference, the Suzuki GSX-8S is powered by a 776cc parallel-twin engine making a comparable 61kW and 78Nm.
The Hornet’s all-new motor, which will also appear in the upcoming XL750 Transalp adventure bike, is housed in a new steel diamond frame paired with 41mm Showa USD forks and a Pro-Link rear shock. Dual four-piston Nissin callipers squeeze 296mm discs at the front end.
Importantly, the CB750 Hornet can be tailored via four rider modes, Rain, Standard, Sport and customisable User, which control traction control, engine braking and power output. Information is shown on a 5.0-inch TFT dash.
The bike does not feature an inertial measurement unit (IMU) for cornering ABS and lean-angle-sensitive traction control, as is typical for the segment. A quickshifter will be offered as an option.
Tipping the scales at 190kg (wet), the Hornet should be approachable for most riders thanks to its 795mm seat height. For comparison, the Yamaha MT-07 weighs 184kg, while its seat height is rated at 805mm.
A 15.2-litre fuel tank is said to offer up to 340 kilometres of range, with fuel consumption rated at 23 kilometres per litre.
In Australia, the 2023 Honda CB750 Hornet will be available in two colour schemes, Graphite Black and Pearl Jasmine White, both of which are contrasted by red accents on the frame and forks.

Paid $12550 ride away. As an owner, I can attest that they only get better and better the more you settle into it and get to know the bike. An absolute hoot of a bike.

Lots to like at that price point. I'm a fan of the look too.

I bought a CB600F Hornet back in 2009. And it was about $11000 from memory after it had a $2-3000 discount because of the GFC. So regardless of how it compares to the old bike, the fact the price didn't go up for 14 years means it is at a completely different price point in todays money. While I lament the disappearance of the screamers, (I bought a 2012 CBR600RR last year for giggles) I've come to the conclusion that this type of thing is the right bike at the right price point as a first step up from a LAMS bike and is probably just as much if not more fun anyway.

Unfortunate that Honda have chosen the two "less desirable" colours when we could have had the traditional Honda Hornet yellow and the very nice "stealth bomber" grey/black schemes. Shame on Honda marketing! I simply could not buy the bike purely based on these colours. Another cop out is trying to make a parallel twin "sound" like a V twin as if it's a marketing decision? This said it certainly has the power the Suzuki GSX-8S should have had. Out of ten for me? 5/10. Edited...

$13.5K AUD & to think the Suzuki is $14.2 with a quick shifter standard. Hey Spencer, did you connect your phone via Bluetooth? I just can’t get to grips with the looks especially in the red/white. It reminds me of the old Suzuki Gladius. Hole in the red frame & all. I still prefer the GSX-8S & can’t wait for you to rip in to it! It may be 12kg heavier but the bigger rear tyre will give it stability 🤔

When Honda has a more powerful inline 4 650 in its line-up I wouldn't touch the Hornet. Also the new 1000 Hornet is a 4. That says it all for me.

A good competitor for the Suzuki. Looks are a bit dated for me. We don’t get the yellow one in Australia which would be the most ‘Hornet’ looking.

Great ride to watch, amazing road. So was the back shock just a bit too cheap? Was the front so fast steering that it was a bit sketchy at times? Regrettably I have only had a short city ride. What was the throttle like around town? I found it quite choppy, required a lot of focus to keep smooth. Would you buy the Hornet or GSX?
