tested first the 8s and 2 weeks later the hornet. Its impossible to choose wrong between this two. 8s definetly more grunt down low and more mature and planted. Hornet fits my 173cm body perfectly, feels lighter in every way and its 1000eur cheaper (don't actually need quickshifter). If one day i trade my 2004 sv650 it will be one of this two or the z900. Amazing bikes and brakes light years better than similar bikes from 10 years ago.

£6999+£289+£550+£900 is £8738. However minus exhaust, therefore same spec and warranty as the Suzuki it would be a little less than the Suzuki. I've ridden both and personally would still go for the Suzuki - it just suits my riding style better.

Just an observation but I have to wonder how much stock gearing is affecting peoples perception of engine performance. While Honda chose to give us a fantastic but uncharacteristic spicy motor they also chose an over-geared final drive ratio that hinders performance to a certain extent. Shorter gearing similar to the Suzuki would increase acceleration but also give the Hornet a stronger more punchy feeling low and mid range. Affordable upgrade considering the Hornets lower price and definitely a worthy consideration when it comes time to replace your chain and sprockets if you don't want to spend the extra money initially.

I’ve test ridden that same bike at CJ Ball, done my DAS with them recently to get my full license, great people. I also test rode the Z650RS at Seastars Kawawaki 😊 lovely looking bike but to much buzz in the seat and pegs for me. Anyway the Hornet put such a big smile on my face I ordered one. My first big bike. You never forget your first 😆 Just to note the sport pack is £555 now and the skid pads are £183, SC Project £900 all plus fitting. Get a Fuel end Can for half the money but the standard is pretty good as well.

Let my mate ride my cb750 Hornet, he immediately said he wanted one but had a test ride booked on the 8s. I went with him and we did a few roll ons, sure enough the 8s would pull maybe 3 bike lengths on the Hornet to start with ( 4th gear @ 50mph, 3, 2, 1, go) but as the revs went up the Hornet was leaving the 8s behind. He's a fairly small guy maybe 5' 7", 65kg, but very experienced, 65 Yr had loads of big bikes, last one Aprilia 1000....he bought the Honda, didn't like the 8s handling said it felt like a big bike and although the engine is fantastic for its capacity, it doesnt have big bike power. The Honda had more intuitive handling, quick steering, and yet very stable. The 8s probably suits the taller, heavier, and dare, I say, more sensible rider? 😉

The suzuki is better, i have the hornet 750 and the 800 vstrom. The 8s engine is until 8000 stronger as the hornet engine, but the hornet engine goes between 8000 and 10000 as a "rocket" with great engine Sound !!!! The Transmission is smoother in the gsx 8s engine (in the v strom 800)...the hornet Transmission feels like a bone😅 The 8s enginefeels stronger/better...the Sound nice, but the Sound of the hornet better. The 8s looks better The gear of the hornet a bit to smooth, it feels a bit retless by the fullpower acceleration... The processing of the gsx 8s and the v strom better!!!! Suzuki great work, the hornet 750 also a great bike with great power between 8000 and 10000 with great Sound,so i love both bikes!!!! Greetings from germany, thanks for this Video!!! Do you think the agility of the Hornet comes from the 160 rear tyre compared with the 180 on the Suzuki ?. I prefer the Hornet looks overall especially the front end compared to the Suzuki. All these parallel twins sound a bit drone like but either bike would be a good choice, but I'm not ready to swap my '01VFR yet.

Great review. This and the new Suzuki '8S certainly appear to have been well received. With each having their particular strengths and weaknesses, I really think it's a fine line between them and ultimately, choice will be down to subjective issues such as looks and colour, and of course, pricing v options. Decisions, decisions. Agree about the self cancelling indicators. I had them on a 2019 VFR800 and they never fully functioned as they should have. This is funny, as back in the early 80s I had them on a Yamaha XJ650 and they worked perfectly. Similarly, a friend had them on his 1978 RD250E and they too worked as designed, so I don't know what's going on today. Items like this are not essential and like gear indicators, if you don't know what gear you're in and can't manually deactivate your indicators, you shouldn't be on a bike.

Tried the Hornet and 8s back to back last week, didn't like the frame/sub frame on the Hornet, looks cheap and old styling as did the swing arm which could have come from a scooter!! The S8 have a lovely sub frame which can be changed if it gets damaged and the swing arm is a nice alloy design. as to the ride , the S8 was a lot nicer to ride with lots of low and mid range grunt !! so i've taken delivery of a new S8 on Friday !!The biggest surprise to me was the quality of the Suzuki was a lot better than the Honda !!
@nickclarkuk
@nickclarkuk Жыл бұрын
Yes you can see where the extra money goes on the Suzuki . I love the current SV650 design but the swing arm looks anemic🤮 and the CB750 is let down to a lesser extent by the steel box design. The sub frame on the 8s is beautiful and the suspension seems to be sportier. If were about to buy I would go for the 8s despite preferring the rev happy engine of the hornet .

@motorsforthemasses
@motorsforthemasses Жыл бұрын
I would say there is very little to choose between them in terms of fuel efficiency. It always depends on which mode you ride in, how much you twist the throttle. Technically the Hornet is a little more fuel efficient as it is lighter
@richardwarsinske7064
@richardwarsinske7064 Жыл бұрын
@@motorsforthemasses Gearing of these two bikes is also quite different. Shorter geared Suzuki runs more revs at any given speed in every gear which helps offset its lower power output compared to the Honda but also hurts its fuel efficiency.

I don’t mind the front end and bodywork. It’s fine, nothing special but it’s fine. The thing that really puts me off about the look of that bike is the engine and swingarm. They just look so cheap and bland. Most bikes have a lot more styling built into the engine casing but the CB750’s engine casings are just flat and plain. Look at the CB650R engine casings for example. They look so much more premium and more passion has been put into the design. I think Honda just made the engine casings as cheap as they possibly could. If Honda start selling the full power version of the CB650R in New Zealand then I would buy that instead. I know it’s less torquey and doesn’t have a ride by wire throttle which means no auto-blipping on the quick shifter but the styling and design just have way more passion and make me actually want to look at it. Unfortunately Honda just updated the CB650R and made it look worse and they still haven’t made it ride by wire. It’s quite disappointing.

Cool color scheme on that white red bike. The red is not the shade i like - oh well. Also that frame is not pretty enough to be exposed like that in my opinion. Looks like you can't detach sub frame as well? Other than that the bike looks like its more than enough for 99% of the riders.

Excellent review as always buddy, fit and finish on this for me is much nicer than the Suzuki 8, and my money would be on this. But I hate the position of where the indicator switch is, and I couldn’t agree more about those silly self cancelling indicators. Sounds much like my old 696 monster this. And I’d happily own one. Only thing I can say about this the Suzuki and the Kawasaki 650 is it’s a shame they have replaced the in-line four that they are memorable for. Love the frame on this and also the red forks. And most definitely agree on that horrible tail on the Suzuki 😂 good vid and interesting watch 💯👍🏼
