The New Hope - Lambertville Bridge
Connecting Two Towns - Spanning Two Centuries
1814 -2014
The story of how Benjamin Parry's vision connected two river communities while spurring on an economic revolution and continuing to this day to have an impact on New Hope, Pennsylvania and Lambertville, New Jersey.
In the 1770s, the Delaware River was the divide that saved a fledgling nation. By the early 1800s however that barrier was impeding commerce of the young America. This is the story of how Benjamin Parry and the business community of New Hope and Lambertville had the foresight to build, what became at the time, the most commercially important bridge in North America if not the world. The project was undertaken by Lewis Wernwag, the preeminent engineer of the day, and it was not without its challenges. See how the New Hope - Lambertville Bridge spurred on an economic revolution for the region and continues to this day to be the link that connects these vibrant communities almost as if they were Siamese twins. Rare footage, interviews with local historians and long-forgotten newspaper articles make this a must see for history buffs, bridge and engineering enthusiasts and just about anyone else who has ever walked or driven across Benjamin Parry’s vision of the future.
