The R36H is currently up against the almost identical model from Anbernic. I can imagine that the price could be the deciding factor (although I personally don't like the analog stick on top). The R46S has always had potential, especially because of the color selection. It's nice that the sticks have been improved! I hope the R36-team continues to work on these optimizations.👍

I love the 35XXH so much. It feels much more premium and polished. I should’ve mentioned that in the video, but I think it’s pretty obvious. I also prefer my dpad up top, but it doesn’t bother me too much having it on the bottom. I seem to accidentally hit the stick a lot when it’s on top. I’m really like that foggy R46S purple.

Anbernic could learn a thing or two from these guys about their battery compartment. Being able to just open a back plate without tearing the device in half or having to unscrew a back plate off is something all electronics, not just emulators, should go back to. Phones, for example, were much better when you could do that. The psp could do that but with the vita you'd have to tear it in half. I know the rg35xx h is better but that one pro that the r36 models have really is their selling point.

Luckily EU will enforce replaceable batteries in 2-3 years. That will kind of help for these things to be more frequent in the future.

On the page it says that its cpu is an rk3566 and on the box it says that it comes with an rk3326. It would be ideal if you could disassemble it to know which cpu it really comes with.

I was told by the manufacturer that it is, in fact, an RK3326, but I'll try to find the time to open it up and check tomorrow. I know there are a lot of people that would appreciate seeing what the board looks like.

Yeah, I agree. Small screen, but I love the XU Mini M. This one here will become a “budget console” eventually, just like the R36S. In a couple months it’ll be about half the price you’re seeing now.

We became friends about a year ago when I just started this channel. I don’t remember exactly how it evolved but we stay in touch pretty regularly. He’s extremely busy and mainly wants to focus on wholesale. The amount of messages people send with memory card issues and other questions about these devices is a lot for him to deal with, especially with the language barrier.

No. If you stand it on its side it’s thinner and taller, but has less width. If your R36S fits perfectly in a case that case won’t work for the R36H.

I agree. It did seem to run smoother. The audio was less crackly as well. I think some sellers ship their R36S set at 2X PSP resolution, (with frameskip off) which makes it basically unplayable. Luckily it’s a pretty quick fix.

The R36H is a bit taller and thinner than the R36S. It probably wouldn't fit in a case for the R36S unless it has some extra space available.

They didn't include God of War so I'm guessing it doesn't run very well on the U8. GOW is hit and miss with these RK3326 devices, but it might be playable at 1x with frameskip. I'm pretty sure it'll be able to play the entire PS1 library though.

Hi, I'm looking for a console of that style but I see so many options that I don't know which one is the best for me. I wish I could play psp games and the first xbox, as well as retro games. Is there an option that allows you to do something like this? Thank you

Xbox still can't be emulated on these little handhelds. You can probably emulate Xbox on a handheld PC but not one of these portable Linux devices. Many of them can play PSP though. This one inparticular is not recommended for PSP because it struggles with the harder to run games and doesn't have the proper aspect ratio for the screen. Another relatively low cost device with a perfect 16:9 screen is the TrimUI Smart Pro. With custom firmware it can run a lot of PSP games. You'd be better off with an Android device like the Anbernic RG556 or Retroid Pocket 4, but they start getting up there in price.

Hey, I just brought a R36s from Ali express, that came with a 64 gig SD card it didn’t come loaded with the ppspp emulator and and no PSP games, my question is it common to not come preloaded with most games or did I buy a fake one?

There is a guide on how to tell also you want to change the sd card immediately

Sorry to hear that. PSP should definitely be preloaded, even on a fake (Emuelec) one. I don’t have the link offhand at the moment, but you can do a quick search for flashing ArkOS to a new SD card for R36S. You can copy the roms from the cheap card they provided to you or, better yet, add your own nicely curated romset once you have an updated version of ArkOS on a decent quality card. PPSSPP will be included. On the Retro Handhelds Discord sever the R36S thread will be under “other handhelds”, I believe. I think @AeolusUX on the R36S section might be one of the best people to talk to, but I’m not sure how busy he is atm. I’ll try to get back to you with links later.
