Ah, I already sold my old one. I think it was different voltages though, but may want to double check.

Nope, but chances are they'll run into each other eventually since they probably will go at different speeds.

Regarding the reason the power supply transformer is removed from the box where it obviously was originally intended to fit (as you pointed out): they sell the parts individually because nowadays companies/corporations spend huge amount of time sitting in their offices scheming of ways to take more money out of consumers' pockets and put it into their own...simple explanation: greed. They made a simple alteration of the printing scheme for the outside of the box to indicate that the transformer "...is sold separately...", and just like that they're able to make more money by forcing consumer to purchase something which should've been kept in the kit. People these days seem to accept this as 'just the way it is'...but how many of you try do anything about it? If more and more people would make even a small effort to send feedback to these companies it might make a difference...doesn't take any more effort to write a letter to one of these companies as it does to talk about it on youtube, and discussing it on youtube is complete waste of time, as I'm pretty sure no-one from any of these companies will ever see your comment/opinion. Sorry, rant over.

The ironic thing is they'd actually make more money if both were included, they'll pay less in packaging and storage costs and force everyone who wants a new controller to buy a new power pack also.

The actual reason they sell them separately is because Kato sells trains in different parts of the world which need different voltages and plug types. If they were to include it in the box they would have to have multiple versions of the box which would take up more room in their warehouse than just having them separate and having the consumer hose which they need for their part of the world.
