I hate to admit. But your Kato FEF-3 844 looks weird without its smoke deflectors. It did look like this when it rolled off the assembly line. But since revenue service and excursion service 844 has never been seen without smoke deflectors. Please feel free to explain in reply why you don’t like them. The Kato model looks great with them on. But they are removable if you like to see what it looked like when it rolled off the assembly line. And the Big Boy is a huge hit made by Kato. And both sets of drive wheels are its own engine. Lots of pulling power under one boiler. It’s even perfect to double head with 844. If you plan on doing a 4014 and 844 double header, I’m ok with you keeping 844s deflectors off since you like it that way.

Never run model trains on carpet you pick up the carpet fibers in the wheel gears and motors always mount your equipment in a proper track layout.
@ModelTrainsWow27 күн бұрын
LoL, an urban myth... I've been doing this since 2016, and in 8 years not once have ever had a problem because of carpet. I was worried about that in the beginning but has never been an issue.

When you install the lights maybe also install a bipolar capacitor ( train can go both directions) The idea when power drops from rail which gives the flicking the capacitor should maintain voltage over that time. I believe the train has a flywheel so it won't be affected by variations in voltage.

Curious, do you have any of the newer Arnold steam locos, if so how do they compare to Fleischmann or Kato for smooth quiet operation? I'm not a fan of the older Arnold, noise and jerky mechanisms but I haven't seen the newer units in operation. Thanks,
@ModelTrainsWowАй бұрын
I do have a couple older Arnold steam ones like this, I think from the 90s, they work ok. I also have some more modern electric types from Arnold I got new a few years back like this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKDKf3ipZaejnbc They work pretty flawlessly, the motors are very quiet and good. I'd like to get a steam one, but they're really expensive new, like $300-$400+. Why you hardly every see any especially in the states. But modern Arnolds seem to be fantastic, I have some new Arnold passenger cars too which are easily some of my favorites, better than Kato.

I just ordered some more items from PJ, seems the shipping cost has nearly doubled what I had on my last order. Still I like getting items that are not carried locally so in the end, it''s just lunch money.

The Yen has lost a lot of value over the past few months and year, I think they're making some of that up with higher shipping cost. But it's still cheaper overall compared to a year ago in total for what you get.

@msomething35793 ай бұрын
Last year I purchased my first Broadway Limited locomotive, an NW2 switcher at a good sale price. I was very impressed by the detail and thought I might be adding a few more BL until I tried to run the thing. First problem was the DC operation, having to go to half throttle before it would move made it annoying but thought I might get used to it for the switching operations I like to run, however the noise was awful and like you discovered there was no easy way to adjust the volume. Then I tested the coupling/uncoupling with my Kadee equipped cars, that didn't work so well either on the uncoupling magnets. After weighing the hassle of removing the sound, replacing the couplers, and the throttle problem, I decided to return the unit. I understand that Broadway Limited has listened to the non DCC people and is going to produce models without DCC calling them "Stealth", but none of the shops seem to have any in stock. Anyway, I enjoy your videos, -Mike in NC,
@ModelTrainsWow3 ай бұрын
Haha, same. I heard about the stealth ones too but haven't really seen them. I theory they should be cheaper too... we shall see. Great to hear about your experience and that I'm not the only one with issues.
