I just updated my Kindle scribe 2022 with the new firmware update and it works fantastically with the new note functionality which can provide revision and summaries. It also does a great job when reading my Kindle books and wanting to annotate I really enjoyed your video. Keep it up.

Your intro gave me second hand excitement😂 I’m tempted to get one, I gave my old one to my son and got a Remarkable Paper Pro. I often miss the scribe for the kindle store and the fountain pen option. I think I will be holding out till the inevitable color version (once they get the kinks ironed out). Also I’m hoping they go for a design more similar to the paper pro honestly. The 11.8 screen size it’s hard to go smaller after that for writing.

I just checked for updates for my original Scribe, downloaded & installed it. This is the first update that is significant for me: the option to underline, instead of just highlight & the ability to write in books I'm reading. I don't see how you got the pen menu to appear for a book, though. Oh, I just found on the 3 dot menu the option to show the writing toolbar!

I ordered mine yesterday and wanted to make folks aware if you have anything to trade in that you are not using ( I traded an old Echo Show and got $20 ) the trade-in price may be as much as it was in my case but you get 20% off on the Kindle that amounts to quite a bit. I got the 64 GB and got $110 off the price due to the echo trade-in. It's a way to lower the price.

Thank you for this fabulous review!! I love that you can add separate notes to highlighted sections without using the canvas feature. Quick question: is there a way to look at all the sections you highlighted at once and see your notes on them? (This would be so useful for my job!)

Thanks for the kind words-glad you enjoyed the review! Yes, there is a way to view all your highlights and notes in one place. On the Kindle Scribe, you can go to the Notebook or Notes & Highlights section (accessible from the menu while reading or from the home screen). This will show a list of all your highlighted sections along with any notes you’ve added to them. It’s a handy feature, especially for keeping track of important passages for work or study. First time kindle owner here, got the new scrible to update my ebook reading experience. Been using an iPad Air (2020) and it's been great but it is a strain on the eyes if you're an avid reader. Reading on the kindle is much better. But as taking notes is, I find the iOS Books version much much much better, more versatile and better implemented. Unfortunately, at least for now, the kindle scribe can't outperform the iPad on this particular aspect. Nevertheless, so far a great experience. Side note: for some reason, holding the new kindle scribe for a couple of hours reading, it is so cold to the touch, to the point it gets uncomfortable

Updated software version 5.17.2 is out for the original Scribe. Manually installed it today. Not the easiest thing to do. Amazon has to provide for an easier way to download and install software updates. It is 2024.

Not sure what’s difficult about downloading a file and dragging it onto the kindle once connected to a pc. Regardless, I updated my scribe last night and am still waiting for my 2024 to arrive. It will be interesting to see the difference.

The new AI feature is so good. I've been testing different things with the new refine writing "RW", and it's very impressive. Here are some of the things I've learn it can do. 1. After you refine your writing, if afterwards you cross a word out and write a new one underneath it, the RW recognizes it and makes the new adjustments. 2. It detects bullet points but struggles to detect sub-points. 3. Check boxes. If you leave an "x" in the box, RW will place a checkmark in it. 4. It detects headers and generates them in a darker shade. 5. Sometimes, it can understand writing that's written sidewise, and RW will generate to appear sidewise as well. 6. Things it hasn't been able to do for me - create shapes (aside from squares), arrows, or emojis. I have not been able to make it recognize writing in Bold or Italic. It also I'm sure there is more RW can do, but so far it's already surprisingly good.

@@vinland6168 I have found that Amazon does this quite a bit with their products. There are many Echo features that for reasons unknown are still not available in the UK-despite the UK market being the largest outside of the US (as I understand it).

Good video. Got this yesterday. Agree USB A is pointless. I didn't have the original but I think the first-generation Scribe had a single-core 1GHz processor, whereas the Scribe 2 has a 2 GHz dual-core.

Hi Mark Thanks for the review -very much appreciated. I have the 2022 version and I am very happy with it. I don’t quite get why Amazon released this version as, in your words, ‘there’s not much difference’ between the two. Especially since the new update to imminent. I can’t see any good reason to spend another £400 on on a new device which is more or less the same as the old one. I have a sneaking suspicion that Amazon will bring out a 2nd generation model in the near future. Anyway a good comprehensive review as always

Every reviewer seems to focus on the note-writing aspect of the Scribe, which I understand, but what about how comfortable it is to use as a reader? I am sure there are far more people likely to use it just for reading than for note taking, aren't there? Is it a nicer experience than on the Paperwhite bearing in mind the increased size and weight? Does the bigger screen make it awkward and less comfortable to use as a book when sitting in an armchair? If I wanted a larger reader screen than my Paperwhite, would the much more expensive iPad Air (not an Android which mostly have a worse screen ratio than an Apple to use as a book) be a better screen for reading, apart from the other features it offers? I find the Kindle software sluggish on my Paperwhite - is it speedier on the Scribe? Is it as fast as a when using a tablet or computer version of Kindle? So many questions that could be covered in a review.

Great points and a lot of thoughtful questions! You’re absolutely right-many reviews, including mine, often highlight the note-taking features of the Scribe, but the reading experience deserves more attention, especially for people who just want a larger e-reader. To answer some of your questions: The bigger screen does make reading more enjoyable for certain use cases, like PDFs or graphic-heavy books, but the added size and weight might not be as comfortable for extended reading in an armchair compared to the Paperwhite. It’s definitely a trade-off. If portability and lightweight design are priorities, the Paperwhite still wins. Regarding speed, the Scribe, I believe feels quicker than the older Paperwhite (don’t know about latest model)-turning pages and navigating feels a bit snappier, though it’s not as fast as the Kindle app on a tablet or computer. As for whether an iPad Air would be better, it really depends on how much you value the e-ink display. For pure reading comfort and avoiding eye strain, the Scribe is far superior to an iPad, but if versatility is key, the iPad Air is hard to beat. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Loving it so far, my one thing is it the active canvas in book writing doesn't seem to work with all books. Some of my books which I purchased not long ago new from the kindle store don't work with it. It has to have enhanced typesetting enabled I think to allow it to work is my best guess, but maybe there is something else wrong with some of those books, but some definitely do not allow you to use that feature. It being the enhanced typesetting is my best guess but it may not be the reason why, still looking into it.

Why would they even bother to release a new version? If they really want to make money on the new Scribe, I imagine they would want their customers to purchase the new device. Even though I love the white frame around the new device and the Jade color option for the 64gb, I won't be getting it. Very happy with what I have so far. I heard Amazon will be releasing a color version of the Scribe in 2025. If that happens, I would love checking that one out!

Just returned my kindle scribe V1. It’s a toy. Yes you can write notes but as soon as it’s exported or emailed, the scribed writing comes out so pixelated. I was using it for annotating a PDF for a professional assessment, but when exported to print out it’s unusable, pixelated. I went and purchased a remarkable pro out of desperation and I haven’t looked back, night and day experience.

Hi! Thanks for a fantastic review! The canvas book notes that you did on your Scribe - do they sync up to other devices? Like, if you make a note inside the book on a Scribe and then open the same book on your phone’s Kindle app or on any other Kindle, can you see what you wrote or do they only live exclusively on the Scribe?

The Scribe 2024 is at the moment the best note taking devise, its as close to a notebook and pen. I am not a fan of the rest of the device. Used for Business, Social worker scored as 9.75/10 32 GB $677 AUD with case.

I may be in the minority here but I prefer the black border of the original Scribe, I use dark mode more often than not and it looks much more seamless with the dark border. I was able to get one in the Black Friday deals, 32gb and premium pen for £194 with 20% off trading in an old kindle and since I wanted the original anyway I thought it was a real bargain. They have already given me the new software update last night so I don’t feel I’m missing out on anything but an upgraded pen and screen surface, which would be nice but not worth so much extra money so I’m very happy with what I have. 💛
