I remember when WTBS first played reruns of “Leave It To Beaver” in the early 1980s. My sisters and I would watch it in the mornings and got a kick out of Eddie Haskell. I would watch “Still the Beaver” and enjoyed it. They don’t make television like this anymore.

I loooooved this show when I was young OMG!! I was about 9 when it came out and I watched it everyday on summer break at 1200pm waiting for my mom to come home from work. I remember the episode when they banned Eddie Haskell from the house and then their home caught on fire due to faulty wiring and Eddie saved them. I am so teary eyed, I miss my childhood sooo much 😢😢

All of this show's tapes are lost and this program is forgotten. It first ran on the Disney channel around 1984 and then it went over to TBS and they ran it until 1989. The show had a decent run and was somewhat popular in the 80's with kids. Time went by and Leave it to Beaver fans look at this and are clueless that this ever existed. The only footage you will find of it is here on KZbin.

my parents loved the original Leave it to Beaver in the 60s so I was born in 1981 and naturally they watched this. I became obsessed with it when I was about 6 and 7. I used to tape the episodes off of the tv. Those tapes are long gone, but its neat to see some of it here on KZbin.

This isnt gonna be released on DVD according to something said about it's broadcasting rights being left in limbo, it was said on its wiki page

This is true. I talked personally to the DVD producer for the original series when it was being prepared for release, and I was the one who actually made him aware that there was a reunion film and revival series in the 1980s (I also made him aware of the U.S. Savings Bond film which actually did end up appearing on the set!) I had already heard stories from the cast that the show was not available for syndication because its rights went to a company in Australia, but the producer went to great lengths to figure out what it would take to iron out the problem so that at least a sampling of the series--and the reunion film--could be included on the DVD. As it turned out, things were a lot worse than even I expected: the show's masters were destroyed in the Universal fire that happened in 2008. The original raw film elements still exist (being the actual film from the cameras used in producing the show), but every single episode would have to be re-created from scratch in order to put the show back. He expressed to me that it would be a painstaking and expensive process--one that would likely be cost prohibitive given that sales for a product such as that would be relatively low due to it being a niche market. So its safe to say not only will it never be on DVD, but it will also likely never even air on TV again either.

Sorry for the long awaited reply, Michael. Interestingly, he returned only for the two most important episodes of the '80s series...the premiere movie in 1983, and the series finale "Dads and Grads" in 1989. He was billed as a special guest star and never appeared in the opening credits.

While I enjoyed the show I recently found out why it ran for almost 5 seasons. The reason was not because it had good ratings but rather Ted Turner ordered 4 seasons worth of episodes. The show did last past the episodes turner ordered
@theoriginalbroadcast8 жыл бұрын
It lasted a total of four seasons--one on Disney (the very first Disney Channel original series!) and three on Turner's TBS (100 episodes total). It is true that he did order two seasons at once--but he did renew it for one additional season, so it wasn't a mistake that it lasted as long as it did. Turner wasn't as concerned with ratings as the major networks were--in many cases, if he personally liked something, he aired it.

It had good ratings anyway, Not as high as Family Ties/Growing Pains-But was still a hit so who cares

I always wondered why Ward was very, very rarely in the old photos featured on the show. I can't imagine Hugh Beaumont's estate was asking for too terribly much for likeness rights.
@theoriginalbroadcast8 жыл бұрын
I thought he was used quite a bit, actually. The movie featured him quite a bit, and then occasionally throughout the series scenes were shown as a flashback as well. I don't think there was any problem at all with his likeness being used--in fact, for better or worse, the studio owned the original series, so they did not need any permission at all to use his likeness for any LITB clips that were used, and they also owned many promotional and original prop photos as well for which they would not require permission to use. Anyway, his family did endorse the new series--his real life sister (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Hugh!) even appeared in the show's Thanksgiving episode!
@Astraldragon17 жыл бұрын
during the opening scene of season one Hugh Beaumont was show in one or two family pictures. which would not noticed unless you looked quickly as it fliped through the family pictures quickly. you had to pause it just right to see his picture. but as the two sons came down the stairs you see him on the wall with his wife.

This was just so bad. Such an opportunity wasted. It was embarrassing in the 80s if you had a friend at your home, and somebody was blaring this.
@theoriginalbroadcast6 жыл бұрын
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but the series really wasn't THAT bad when compared to the original series rather than comparing to other 1980s hits such as "Growing Pains" and "Family Ties". They got back most of the original cast--definitely all of the major players minus Ward (although his presence was still heavily felt), and while some of of the plots were a little childish and saccharine--so were the plots in the original series. It was a good match. And it was successful--it ran just over 100 episodes--not bad for one of the first scripted cable series. The only reason the show is forgotten is because of a distribution rights issue.
@Rbyrd776 жыл бұрын
I would gladly have alot of those times back. I will take The New Leave It To Beaver, over all the reality show crap that the networks have sold out to.
